The team finished second, earning the third-highest team score in program history (195.725) and the fourth-best bars (49.100) and vault (48.950) scores in San José State history. In the MPSF record book, the team score was the fourth-best, the vault score was third-highest and the bars score was No. 5. Cassandra Harrison was the Spartans top performer of the night, finishing second on floor and in the all-around, scoring the first 9.900 on floor of any MPSF gymnast this season and earning a career-best 39.300 in the all-around. HEAD COACH: The San José State University women s gymnastics team head coach is Wayne Wright in his 13th season. The 2012 NCAA West Regional Coach of the Year has brought six teams to an NCAA Regional since 2003 and at least two gymnasts have competed as individuals each season in that time. Overall, Wright has a 177-134-1 record. BOISE STATE: The No. 16 Broncos (10-3) host the Spartans after finishing second at a quad meet hosted by Oregon State, scoring a 196.000. Senior Amanda Otuafi earned a season-best 9.925 on vault for the meet win, and freshman Diana Mejia s career-best 9.925 on bars gave her the meet title. The team s high scores against the Beavers was not an anomaly. The Broncos are in the top-20 nationally in three events: No. 9 on bars (49.129), No. 14 on vault (49.075) and No. 20 on floor (48.963). MPSF NOTES 2014 MPSF HONORS SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK Julia Greer Week of Dec. 30 Week of Jan. 6 GYMNAST OF THE WEEK Bekah Gher Week of Jan. 6 Cami Guyer Week of Jan. 13 Cassandra Harrison Week of Feb. 10 2014 MPSF CHAMPIONSHIP MEET Six teams compete in the 13th Annual MPSF Women s Gymnastics Championship Meet on March 22, 2014 at 6:00 pm (PT), hosted by UC Davis. The Spartans and Aggies will be joined by Air Force, Alaska- Anchorage, Sacramento State and Seattle Pacific. SPARTAN NOTES SPARTANS CONSISTENCY SHOWS IN RANKINGS: The 2014 Spartans consistently high rankings have shown themselves in the most recent Troester.com/gym national rankings. The team is ranked No. 27, its highest ranking since 2009, with an average team score of 194.704. San José State s the beam team is ranked No. 26, the floor team is 28th, the bars team is No. 30 and the vault team is ranked 37th. RECORD MEET IN THE STATE CAPITOL: At the Sacramento State meet, the 2014 Spartans earned their place in the record books. The team s 195.725 was the third-best score in program history, and their vault (48.950) and bars (49.100) scores were the fourth-highest earned by a San José State team. The team s performance was also one of the best in the MPSF. The 48.950 on vault was third-best in conference history, the 195.725 was fourth-highest and the bars score of 49.100 was No. 5. HARRISON REGAINS 2013 FORM: Six meets into the 2014 season, senior Cassandra Harrison has shown the brilliance she displayed last season as one of two Spartan gymnasts to qualify for the NCAA Corvallis Regional. The MPSF Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 10-16, at Sacramento State, she placed second in the all-around with a 39.300, the ninth-best score in team history and a career-best, and earned the MPSF s highest floor score this season. SENIORS SHOWING THEIR STUFF: The Spartans three seniors continue to bring their gymnastics to the next level as the season progresses. At Sacramento State, Cassandra Harrison placed second in the all-around (39.300) and on floor (9.900). Bekah Gher won three individual event titles in the UC Davis home dual: vault (9.850), beam with a season-best 9.850 and the all-around (39.150). In her first all-around showing of 2014, Cassandra Harrison earned a 38.950 for third place. Meanwhile, Julia Greer earned her fifth-straight floor score of 9.850 or higher, finishing second in the event. All three seniors have been recognized for their impressive showings, with each earning MPSF weekly honors at least once this season. ALL GREER DOES IS WIN, WIN, WIN: Senior captain Julia Greer finished in the top-2 on floor in the first five meets of the season, and has scored at least a 9.825 in every meet. The two-time MPSF Specialist of the Week won the beam and floor titles at No. 25 Arizona State and the NorCal Meet. She won the floor at the UC Davis Quad, where she also placed third on beam with a career-best 9.900, and finished second on floor against UC Davis and at Washington. GUYER MAKING A STATEMENT: This season, Cami Guyer has evolved into one of the Spartans' most consistent gymnasts. Competing in the all-around, she placed in the top-3 at the Spartans first four meets of the season. After placing third in the all-around and setting a career-best 9.750 mark on floor at No. 25 Arizona State, Guyer continued to improve her scores against two preseason nationally-ranked teams at Washington. The top- 36 teams in the country are selected to one of the six regionals March 23-24. The top-2 teams at each regional site advance to the 2014 National Championship April 11-12 in Birmingham, Ala. Wash. At the UC Davis Quad, she finished third in theall-around after scoring a season-best 9.750 on beam. MPSF HONORS PILING UP FOR SPARTANS: Four Spartan gymnasts have earned MPSF weekly accolades. Senior Julia Greer was honored as the MPSF Specialist of the Week for the weeks of Dec. 30 and Jan. 6 for her two firstplace finishes at both the NorCal Meet and at No. 25 Arizona State. Senior Bekah Gher was the MPSF Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 6 after winning the all-around at No. 25 Arizona State. After placing second in the all-around at Washington with a career-best 39.150, Cami Guyer earned MPSF Gymnast of the Week honors for Jan. 13. For the first time in her career, Cassandra Harrison received weekly conference honors, named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 17 after finishing second in the all-around at Sacramento State with a career-high 39.300.
