NEWSLETTER April 2015 Email Edition P.O. Box 746 - South Dennis, MA 02660 NEXT MEETING April 9, 2015 Meetings are the second Thursday of each month (except during December, July & August) at the Dennis Senior Center, 1045 Rt. 134, East Dennis at 1:30 PM. (The Executive Committee meets at 12:15 p.m.) PRESIDENT S MESSAGE April 2015 For the past few months I have begun this message commenting on the record breaking weather. Well this month I am not going to do that, because I am absolutely disgusted with the weather! E What I want to talk about is - What does it mean to be a member of the Retired Men s Club of Cape Cod? For each of us the answer is somewhat different. There are some underlying common factors. Fellowship is certainly one factor, whether it is once a month at our meeting or once a week at bowling or on the golf course, or at one of our social events with our wives and significant others. The old saying that you get out of it what you put in certainly rings true here. I am not going to preach about volunteering, but in assisting Ron Greene in putting together the new membership

book. I could not help but be impressed with the number of members who are on the various committees that keep our Club vibrant and interesting. To all of those individuals, thank you for your on-going efforts. Speaking of our monthly meetings, our speaker at last month s meeting was terrific. He was Col. James LeFavor, the commander of Joint Base Cape Cod. He outlined each of the four military installations that call Cape Cod home, and gave us some insight into the workings of the Army Intelligence unit and their role in combat missions. It was very impressive! Our speaker for the April meeting will be Mr. Marc Goldberg, the Vice Chairman of the Cape Cod SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) chapter. He will share his perspective of the Cape Cod economy and discuss the role of SCORE in small and nonprofit businesses. Our annual Saint Patrick s Day dinner and dance was on Monday March 16 th at the Irish Village. There were 60 people in attendance feasting of good Irish food and enjoying the young step dancers and Irish music. Thanks to Buzz Barry for running this event again this year. There are pictures of the party in this newsletter. Coming up on our social calendar is a trip to Foxwoods on April 16 th. If you have any money left over after paying your taxes, then you can spend it at Foxwoods and have a good time. We need a minimum of 40 people on the bus to break even, so ask your friends and family to join the RMC in an excursion to Foxwoods. There is a flyer in this newsletter with the specifics, and I m sure Dave Puchalsky will make room for you. On May 20 th we will be boarding a bus to the JFK Library and Museum in Dorchester followed by lunch at the Faneuil Hall marketplace. Again, there is a flyer in this newsletter to sign up for this trip. Mitch Mc Laughlin is running this one, so you know it will be a first class event. June 17 th will be our Spring Dinner Dance at the Cape Codder in Hyannis. Polish up your dancing shoes and save the date for this event, as Accent Entertainment (the same band as we had at the Christmas party) will again serenade us. More activities are planned for the coming months, including the start of our golf program at the end of April. Be sure to sign up for the golf outings as they are outstanding values and a lot of fun. Tennis, cribbage and chess are all starting up as well. If you have any suggestions for new activities or trips, please let any member of the executive committee know about them. We will attempt to satisfy as many members as we are able. As I am sure you are, I am looking forward to the spring. So, like the past three months, Stay Warm! Tom
