Milleson was honored as Heartland Conference Coach of the Year three times, as Drury won six conference titles in all. Last Time Out The Missouri State Lady Bears had their lowest offensive output of the season Wednesday (Dec. 19) against a solid Iowa team in what resulted in a 97-43 loss to the Hawkeyes inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. Missouri State fell to 6-4 on the season while Iowa improved to 9-3. Missouri State began the game 1-for-7 from the floor in falling behind 10-2 five minutes in, while the Hawkeyes hit five 3-pointers in the game s first 10 minutes, the fifth sparking a 14-0 run that finally ended when Karly Buer hit a foul-line jumper with 5:04 on the clock to make it 34-14 Iowa and end a 5-minute, 40-second scoring drought for the Lady Bears. The Hawkeyes built the lead 46-20 by halftime, limiting MSU to 7-for-30 overall and 1-for-11 on 3-pointers in the first period. Things got no easier for the Lady Bears in the second half as they finished 12- for-58 (.207) from the field, 1-for-18 from beyond the arc, and 18-for-31 from the foul line. All 15 players on the Missouri State roster played in the game, with Hannah Wilkerson scoring 10 points as the only player in double figures. Buer and Christiana Shorter scored eight apiece, and Shorter passed the 1,300-point barrier in career scoring. Buer and Kenzie Williams shared high rebounding honors with six each. Iowa finished the contest 36-for-75 from the field (48 percent) and made 10 3-pointers. MSU began formal competition in 1969 and, with a 24-9 mark in 2012, secured its 29th winning season. The Lady Bears have made 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by Final Four trips in 1992 and 2001 to go along with a Sweet 16 appearance in 1993. The Lady Bears are in their 31st NCAA Division I season and 21st MVC year. MSU was in AIAW competition on the state, regional and national levels through the 1981-82 season, moved to Division I and Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference play in 1982-83 and started MVC competition in 1992-93 when the Gateway merged with The Valley. Players of the Week Whitney Edie became MSU s first MVC Player of the Week in 2012-13 on Dec. 3 after posting averages of 18.5 points and 14 rebounds in wins over Oral Roberts and Northern Kentucky. Q Rating After compiling a 325-108 record in Hammons Student Center over its 32-year stint as home of Missouri State basketball, the Lady Bears posted a 14-2 home mark last season. The Q is the fourth regular home of Missouri State women s basketball in the four-decade history of the program. The Lady Bears utilized both McDonald Arena and the Greenwood Laboratory School gym from 1969 until Hammons Student Center opened in 1976. MSU continued to play some of its home games at McDonald through the 1979-80 season. The Lady Bears dropped their first game at Hammons to Iowa State by an 81-62 score on Dec. 11, 1976. The Lady Bears new home was made possible by a $30 million gift from MSU alumnus John Q. Hammons and will feature seating for more than 11,000 fans, 24 suites, the PRIME Overtime Club and the Missouri State University Hall of Fame and Legacy of Competition. Lady Bears Among Nation s Top Mid-Major Programs Missouri State sits in the No. 12 spot of the most recent CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Lady Bears are the second-ranked MVC team in the poll behind Creighton at No. 10.
