Houston Camera Club Member of PSA & GSCCC THE RANGEFINDER Volume 51, No. 01 Organized 1935 January, 2011 Meets first and third Tuesdays each month at Bayland Community Center, 6400 Bissonnet near Hillcroft Field Trip Saturday, January 15 Cockrell Butterfly Center Discover the Fascinating World of Insects! The Cockrell Butterfly Center and the Brown Hall of Entomology provide entertainment and education, as well as photo opportunities. You will enter a stunning, 3-story glass structure built around a 50-foot waterfall. This simulated rain forest is filled with exotic plants and hundreds of species of gorgeous, living butterflies. Also, the Brown Hall of Entomology provides other exhibits about the largely unknown world of insects. Rain or shine, meet at 9:00 a.m. at the entrance to the Cockrell Butterfly Center, located in the Houston Museum of Natural Science, 1 Hermann Circle Drive, Houston. Admission is $8.00 for non-members of the museum; $7.00 for seniors. Admission for museum members is $4.00. Bill Burychka, John Niemand Field Trip Chairmen Workshop January 18 Black Light Photography Joe Sandler will lead a workshop on photographing objects using black light. Lighting something with a black light makes the object glow in the dark. There will be some props to get you started. Bring some of your own objects that will glow under a black light. Or, bring something that you have made to glow by using paints from a hobby shop. Joe will also bring some mylar to set your subject off and maybe catch a reflection or two as well. Be sure to bring your camera, your tripod, and either a macro lens or a telephoto lens so you can take part in the fun.
