Heartland Conference Standings through games of 11/21/05 Last Week s Results: MSU-Billings 75, Fort Lewis 56 Hillsdale 66, MSU-Billings 53 Last Week s Highlights: The Yellowjackets split their two games at the Holiday Inn/Chinook Wireless Yellowjacket Classic over the weekend. They downed Fort Lewis 75-56 on Friday before falling to Hillsdale 66-53 on Saturday. The Jackets used a balanced offensive effort in Friday s win over the Skyhawks. All five starters scored in double figures led by Jenny Langford s 16 points. She was 4-of-5 from 3-point range and 6-of-9 from the field. Tanya Petersen posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Michelle Lieber, Lisa Jellum, and Shannon Harvey also netted double digits. The cold shooting bug bit the Yellowjackets on Saturday as they combined to make just 3-of-20 attempts from 3-point land. Petersen had another double-double with 22 points and 13 boards to earn alltournament honors. Freshman Alira Carpenter came off the bench to score 11 points, all in the second half, to keep the Yellowjackets in the game. She scored all 11 of her points between the 13:00 and 8:00 marks of the second half. Petersen, a senior forward from Billings West HS, was named the Heartland Conference player of the week for her performance at the Holiday Inn/Chinook Wireless Yellowjacket Classic. She posted two double-doubles and averaged 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds at the tourney. She also had three blocked shots. Team All Conf 1. St. Edward s 2-1 0-0 2. Oklahoma Panhandle 2-1 0-0 3. Natalie Visger was the PacWest player of the week on January 1, 2001. Becky Jacobs was MSUB s last player of the week award winner on February 26, 2001. Since then the Lady Jackets have been without a conference home, playing a nomadic independent schedule. Record Watch: With her 35 points last weekend, Petersen drew within 24 points of becoming the 17 th player in school history to reach 1,000 for a career. She ll likely reach that milestone on the road as the Yellowjackets play their next five games away from Alterowitz Gym. Petersen may also move up the career list for blocked shots in the next five games. She needs one more blocked shot to tie Alicia Cahill for fourth alltime and two more to tie Becky Jacobs for third. That s where Petersen s climb will end, however. The top two shot blockers in school history are also two of the best in NCAA Division II history. Robyn Milne blocked 278 in her four seasons, and Jessie Henigman swatted 272. Harvey and Langford are also close to reaching career milestones. Harvey needs 15 3-pointers to climb into the top 10 on the school career list. Langford needs only 10 threes to catch her sister Joan for the third spot on the school record list.
