EIU looks to halt the two-game losing skid they are crrently on after dropping their most recent game to Stetson 72-55. The Rattlers look to earn their first win of the season Tesday after falling to North Florida and Marshall to open the season. SHOOTING STARS The Panthers took a hit to their season shooting percentage at Stetson only shooting 30.6 percent for the game to bring their season total to 47 percent. Despite the drop, EIU still leads the conference in shooting percentage as a team. Freshman Allison Van Dyke leads the team crrently shooting 50 percent from the floor to rank third in the conference. Van Dyke scored in doble figres for the forth game in a row tying her career high with 15 points against the Hatters. So far this year there are five Panthers shooting above.500 with Erica Brown, Grace Lennox, and Van Dyke averaging at least 10 points a game. THE STICKY BANDITS As a team the Panthers earned over 10 steals for the third game this season against Stetson recording 14 steals against the Hatters. EIU s 14 steals ties their season high earned in their opener against Millikin. The Panthers have accmlated 42 steals so far this year to lead the OVC and rank 21st in the NCAA. Freshman Danielle Berry leads the team with 11 steals following her for steals against Stetson. Berry is second in the OVC for total steals trailing Adrianna Mrphy of Sotheast Missori who has 12 steals on the season. Black was hired May 16, 2013 to take over the program following a long career as an assistant coach, most recently at Ohio State. While with the Bckeyes program Black helped coach the team to seven straight NCAA Tornament appearances inclding six Big Ten Conference Championships. Black has been part of 34 winning basketball seasons both as a player and a coach. She began her playing career at Saint Joseph s University helping the Hawks make for straight NCAA Tornament appearances. After gradation in 1988, she played professionally overseas in Tasmania (1989-96). She played in the WNBA from 1999-2005 earning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. Nicknamed The Pest Black is the only women s professional player to record a qadrple doble with 10 points, 14 rebonds, 12 assists and 10 steals in a game. Black s career record is 25-61, 16-32 in OVC games. LAST TIME OUT The Panthers dropped their second game in a row their last time ot falling to Stetson 72-55. The Hatters raced ot to an early 15-2 lead to begin the game starting off the first qarter 6-for-6 from the field. At the end of the first qarter SU maintained a 22-8 lead. EIU did a great job of fighting the rest of the game matching Stetson shot-for-shot the rest of the game, bt cold not seem to break the 15 point cshion SU bilt p from the first period. Both Erica Brown and Allison Van Dyke finished the game scoring in doble-figres with Brown leading the team with 17 points. The Hoyleton, Ill. native is attemtping to become the fifteenth member of the 600 rebond clb at EIU. In her career so far she has accmlated 521 total rebonds. In her first for career games at EIU Danielle Berry has snagged 11 steals to become the only Panther with doble-digit steals. Berry is second in the conference for total steals and fifth in the OVC averaging 2.75 steals per game. If Berry can keep her average going the rest of the year she has a chance to break the freshman single-season steals record. Ta Kenya Nixon crrently holds the record with 71 steals set in 2010. Erica Brown contined her blocking streak against Stetson finishing the game with two blocks to bring her streak to 16 games in a row. Brown now has nine total blocks this season which is third best in the OVC. She needs 11 more blocks this season to tie Toni Collins for forth on the all-time career blocks list at EIU. Allison Van Dyke had one of the best games of her yong career at Stetson tying her career high with 15 points. Van Dyke also set new standards in rebonds (5), steals (4), and assists (2). Both Zharia Larson and Danielle Berry earned their first career trips to the free throw line against the Hatters combining for a perfect 6-for-6. The game against Stetson marked the first time this season a team has ot shot the Panthers in the paint with the Hatters earning a narrow 34-30 edge over EIU.
