Keenan Elementary By: Kim Wunderlich Keenan Holds Fun Run and 5 th graders Enjoy a Color Run Keenan Elementary students participated in the Apex Fun Run where students learned to UNITE for success! All grade levels participated in a Fun Run, but the 5 th graders added a little, or a lot, of color! Some students had to really prepare by totally wrapping their injuries in bubble wrap! Students learned so much and had a ton of fun doing it. Welcome to the Keenan Kingdom Be Our Guest! Montgomery Junior High School By: Tracey Hooton Things have been BUSY at MJH and Friday, April 27, was no exception. Our honor students enjoyed the last All A s Honor Break for the 2017-18 school year where they were treated with snacks from our cafeteria, as well as, extra time to socialize with friends. In each six weeks, we draw the winning tickets of two lucky students who are awarded a FIRE tablet; this 5th six weeks Carson Wieghat and Jacob Wilson were the lucky winners! Also, Mr. See, MJH Assistant Principal, burned some midnight oil preparing a special luncheon of smoked brisket, turkey, sausage and chicken while Mrs. Lahue worked her magic with area restaurants to have all sides and desserts donated for all the staff. And then, the Montgomery Junior High Student Council held a "Pennies for Patients" fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at the end of March. Administrators competed to raise the most donations during lunches & Mr. Winfield won by raising $290! Of course, the winning administrator received the honor of being duct-taped to a chair, wheeled down the halls of MJH and at the end of his parade of glory, was treated to several pieces of pie in his face! Overall, MJH raised $419.21 and received the Gold Champions award! 2
Oak Hills Junior High By: Shannon Sedoff The Sound of Music at Oak Hills Junior High is LION STRONG! Oak Hills Junior High Choir had ten students make the elite Region IX Middle School/Junior High Region Choir. This is one of the highest achievements a junior high choir student can earn. Our students auditioned against hundreds of other area students for a spot in this elite choir. The Region Choir Clinic and Performance was this past weekend. Lexi Delahoussaye, Emma Gober, Ashton Hughes, Hannah Elliott, Calder McDonald, Macey Pool, Savannah Snead, Kinsey Williams, Ismael Zapata, and Ethan Zeller all earned a spot in this special choir. Lexi Delahoussaye was also chosen for a small group solo part. The Region Choir Concert was a beautiful celebration of these fine young musicians' skill and hard work. We are very proud of our choir program and the outstanding job Ms. Wagner, Choir Director, has done in our first year. Congratulations! Oak Hills Symphonic Band was honored with the Sweepstakes Award, the highest honor, at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. The band competed in both a prepared stage concert of three songs and an additional challenge in which they read a brand new piece of music for just a few minutes and then performed it at an extraordinary level. In both events, the band received the highest score possible, Superior - First Division, which awards the band the coveted Sweepstakes trophy. This is an extremely difficult challenge and our band students rose to the occasion and performed their very best under the direction of Mr. Matthew Boozer. Congratulations to each and every one on a superb performance and an outstanding achievement! 3
Lone Star Elementary By Elisa Krug The students have spoken, the votes are counted, and results are in from our mascot voting. We are proud to be the Lone Star Longhorns! Students say that the longhorn is a leader because it was one of the first animals brought to the LONE STAR state by settlers and they feel it is a great mascot because it goes great with our state flag and school colors, too. Many Longhorns, like this cuddly friend, have already been spotted on campus. Our newest and biggest Longhorn made its first visit this week at dismissal with waves, hugs and high fives. Montgomery Elementary By: Denise Ansley The first grade class performed their program, "Shine." The students sang and talked about how to be good citizens by helping each other, giving with your heart, being a good friend, and respecting friends and family. Everyone has a light shining in their heart, and you should let it shine bright! The students did an amazing job, and there were so many talented soloists! We are all so proud of their hard work! 4
