1937 2018
HISTORY After the First World War, the then Yugoslav King Aleksander Karađorđević chose Bled as his summer residence, attracting wealthy guests and nobility from all over Europe. The first round of golf was officially played at Bled in 1937 after completion of the first nine holes and this marked the birth of golf in the region. The full 18 hole layout was completed in 1938 but was sadly abandoned soon after due to the onset of the Second World War. After extensive redesign and renovation by the legendary Donald Harradine, the course reopened in 1972 to widespread acclaim with golfconnoisseurs from around the world declaring it to be one of the most beautiful in Europe. In the past, Bled Golf Course has hosted many major amateur and professional tournaments which is a true testament to the layout and challenge that it presents. Events include the European Boys Team Championships, PGA European Challenge Tour and also International European Mid-Amateur Championships. In 2015 an extensive renovation of both the Kings Course and Kings House was undertaken with the aim of restoring the Clubs reputation as a place for fit for Royalty. Two years later, in 2017, Ryder Cup legends Sam Torrance OBE and Costantino Rocca joined the celebrations to mark the return of this iconic venue. The recent changes have been recognised and endorsed by the Royal Karađorđević family and with this the golf club is now graciously known as Royal Bled.
