Minor Football League Valleys minors kicked off their Pemier 2 football league when Kilshannnig travelled to Brinny on Sunday. Two points from Aaron O Leary frees and goals from Sean Barry and Adam Kenneally had valleys leading 2-2 to 1-2 at half time playing into a stiff breeze. Things didn t go our way in the second half. A number of missed opportunities with both goals and points there for the taking were to prove very costly and were defeated on a scoreline 1-10 to 2-3. Valley Rovers under 15s had their opening league game of the 2018 season and secured an impressive win at home against Ballygarvan. The game got off to a fast start for Valleys with an early goal from Ben Humphries. Ballygarvan then opened their account with a point. Shortly afterwards, Ciarán McCarthy got a goal for Valleys and the fast- moving high scoring game then saw a series of points from Ballygarvan (2 points) and Valley Rovers (1 point). Ciarán McCarthy ended the spree of points when he got another goal for Valleys which was quickly answered by another goal from Ballygarvan making it 3-1 to 1-2. In the 20th minute, Jonathan Kenneally got a goal for Valleys and Ciarán McCarthy converted a free shortly after. However, Ballygarvan were not to be outdone before the half time whistle and added 2-2 before making the score at half time Valleys 4-2 to Ballygarvan 3-4. 7 minutes into the second half, Ballygarvan converted a penalty and went ahead for the first time in the match leading Valleys 4-4 to 4-2. However, that was the last score of the match for Ballygarvan as Valleys through impressive defending by all the players particularly Daniel Hurley who was sublime in defence.. The final 25 minutes saw an impressive team effort by every player on the panel as the bench was emptied. The captain, our number 1, Conor Manning had an unbelievable save to deny Ballygarvan back into the game. There were three goals in the second half coming from, Ben Humphries, Ciarán McCarthy and Dylan Huggard. Points were added by Ben Humphries, Philip Bernard, Ciarán McCarthy, Jonathan Murphy, Sean Egan and Dean O Connor. This was an impressive display by the under 15s and every player on the pitch worked hard to make it a complete team effort. Final Score Valley Rovers 7-9 to Ballygarvan 4-4. This project is covering all aspects of Gaelic games, be it Hurling Football, Camogie and Ladies Football. We need your Help!! If you have any memorabilia, pictures, old medals, old minute books in your procession, old AGM reports etc or equally important, any historical information we would greatly appreciate if you would share it with us. We have set up an email address valleyrovershistory@gmail.com that you can email any items. Also on Saturday 3rd March we will be in Innishannon Hall (downstairs from 5-8pm) where people can come and bring interesting items and we will scan them and you can take your items home again. If someone has many items and they want us to come to your house to copy them that can be arranged also. All information is welcome and we will endeavor to include as many items as possible.
