Lawrence North Student-Athlete of the Week Robert Samuels, Wrestling Senior Robert Samuels is the Lawrence North Athlete of the Week for his performance at the IHSAA state wrestling finals. Robert won his first two matches before falling 3-2 to the eventual state champ in the semi-finals. In the 3 rd place match, Robert beat Brownsburg s Rickie Clark 12-11 in what was widely considered as the best match of the state finals. Great job, Robert! You can see the match here: http://s200.trackwrestling.com/tw/videoplayer.jsp?tim=1487624412611& twsessionid=rwmwkkjfgugmhjn&matchid=7597824104

Boys Basketball: The Wildcats (15-9, 3-4 MIC) celebrated senior night with a big win over Howe, 92-65. Before the game, seniors Bryce Roark-Glenn, Ra Kpedi, and Dalen Davis were recognized and each senior was presented a commemorative basketball from the 2016-17 Wildcat basketball team. For senior night, the Indianapolis Fire Department Honor Guard presented the colors, and our very own public safety officer, Lt. Gary Randolph, sang the national anthem. Thank you, gentlemen! The Cats were led by Kpedi and Kevin Easley with 21 points each, and Antwaan Cushingberry also chipped in 16. During the regular season finale, the Cats spotted the Royals a 16-1 lead and had to fight back all game. They didn t give up, and made it interesting at the end. HSE 93 LN 83, with Easley putting up an impressive 35 points for the Cats. Pictures courtesy of Mr. Penrose and Varsity Views. IHSAA SECTIONAL THIS TUESDAY AT NORTH CENTRAL Next up is the IHSAA Sectional at North Central High School. Lawrence North will play Warren Central in the 6:00pm game on Tuesday. Get your tickets early, as this night will most likely sell out! Lawrence Central and North Central will play in the 8:00pm game. All-session tickets are available in the Lawrence North athletic office for $10.00.

Cheerleading: The cheerleaders also recognized their senior class before the game, with Ana Alred, Priscilla Goodwine, and Janaye Cooper all receiving flowers. Great job, ladies, and thank you for all your support throughout the season! Pictures courtesy of Varsity Views.

Pep Band: The pep band was on fire Friday night, as always - this group is by far the best pep band in the state of Indiana!! Thank you to first year director Nick Montan and the entire band for making our home games a blast! Pictures courtesy of Mr. Penrose and Varsity Views.

Swimming & Diving: The boys team finished the season with a solid second place finish at the IHSAA sectional championships. Senior Ben McAteer won the 50-yard freestyle with the 3 rd fastest time in LN history, clocking a time of :21.43! He also placed 3 rd in the 100-yard backstroke, and then led off the 400 free relay clocking the 4 th fastest time ever for a Wildcat in the 100-yard freestyle. Sophomore Jacob Penrose placed 3 rd in the 500 freestyle, posting the 7 th fastest time in LN history, going 4:55.65. All three Wildcats entered in the 500 placed in the finals, with Bennett Vail placing 5 th and Jack Dempsey finishing 7 th. Others placing in the finals were Penrose & Vail in the 200 free, Dempsey & Joe Grese in the 200 IM, Tyler Birkla with a top 3 finish in the 100 butterfly, and Grese in the 100 breaststroke. All three relays placed in the finals as well. The 200 medley relay (McAteer, Grese, Birkla, Dempsey) placed 3 rd, the 200 free relay (Jasper Suiter, Evan Sass, Grese, John Salvas) placed 5 th, and the 400 free relay (McAteer, Vail, Birkla, Penrose) finished 2 nd. Great job, men! Pictures courtesy of Mr. Penrose.

McAteer Finishes Career at State Senior Ben McAteer finished his high school swimming career at the IHSAA state meet, finishing 24 th in the 50-yard freestyle. Ben was an NISCA and Indiana Swimming Academic All-American and posted three individual All-Time Top 10 times in LN Wildcat Swimming history, including the 50 free (3 rd ), 100 free (4 th ), and the 100 backstroke (2 nd ). Congrats, Ben and best wishes to you and your Lawrence Swim Team teammates at the Indiana club state swimming championships next month!

Wrestling: Senior Robert Samuels qualified for the IHSAA state meet, and won his first two matches before getting beat 3-2 by the eventual state champion. What came next was a match for the ages. In the 3 rd place match at 285 pounds, Samuels and fellow senior Rickie Clark from Brownsburg put on quite a show for the Bankers Life Fieldhouse crowd! In a back and forth match, it was all tied up 7-7 going into the final period. Clark got a quick 3 point near-fall on Samuels to make it 10-7. Robert got a quick escape to make it 10-8, and then put on a nifty move to get a take down to tie it all up 10-10. And then Coach Stewart directed Robert to let him go, giving Clark an 11-10 lead with 35 seconds in the match. Samuels needed a two point take down to win the match. He tried several maneuvers and finally got the take down he needed and scored a twopoint take down with one second left to secure the win, 12-11. Not only was it an incredible wrestling match, but both individuals displayed tremendous sportsmanship and the fans at Bankers Life Fieldhouse gave them a standing ovation to display their appreciation. Great job, Robert! We are very proud of you!! To watch the match, click here: http://s200.trackwrestling.com/tw/videoplayer.jsp?tim=1487624412611& twsessionid=rwmwkkjfgugmhjn&matchid=7597824104
