FROM THE MANAGER, PATRICK DILL Clubhouse News Now that it is getting close to summer time, the dates for the upcoming summer camps are listed in this newsletter. Signup for the golf and tennis camps take place in the pro shops and signup for the pool camp will be available, with the lifeguards, when the pool opens. The work in the Fitness Center is now complete and the new lighting on the tree line of the main entrance will be finished soon as well. On Saturday, February 11, 2017 we will be having our Valentine s Sweetheart dinner for those who wish to have a nice romantic dinner with their significant other. We will have Mr. Larry Cotton playing the piano during the Valentine s dinner. Since we had such wonderful responses for Trivia Night in November, we will have it again in February and March, leading up to April when we start our live music on Thursday nights. We will also have Chris Izzo from Mutual Distributors conducting a gourmet wine dinner. Make sure to check the newsletter for upcoming dates. So start making plans for our busy Thursday nights at NBGCC. REMINDERS: Shirt tails shall be tucked in at all times while playing golf. When parking, please do not park at the end of parking lot rows as it makes it difficult for cars that are properly parked to back out of their spot. Walkers please do not use the course for any non-golf purposes, such as walking, jogging, biking and the like between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00pm. TENNIS REPORT, BILL JONES We have finally gotten to the most unpredictable month of our year and we are just hoping for mild temperatures and warmer weather. This is where you want to think about getting ready for the upcoming USTA league season and it looks like we will have multiple teams battling for a league title. We wish all our members the best of success as we move into the spring time, hopefully soon. Tennis News Member of the Month This is one of the most beloved members at NBGCC. She s been a competitive tennis player most of her life. She never fails to have a nice word or a smile. She has an incredible sense of humor and is always willing to give a hand to her friends. Her kind gestures are too numerous to count. We are lucky to have her here, even if it is for only half the year, as she spends summers in the western mountains of North Carolina. Can you guess who she is? Her first name is what you use to start your car? It is none other than Mrs. Kee Sloan. Thank you Kee, we all love to see you out on the courts and are so lucky to have you as a member. Kee, I hope as I personally age that I am able to play tennis as well as you do with such dignity and humility. Junior Tennis After School Program The after school program is still going on weekly (weather permitting) and we hope now that some other sports are wrapping up, you will have a chance to get your kids into our program. It runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-7pm. If you would like to find out more please give us a call or email us at: bjones@nbgcc.com or hsumner@nbgcc.com we hope to see everyone back soon Directors Tip of the Month What is a good pre-match meal? This is usually done at least 2 hours before your scheduled match. Start with less sugar - it only fades away once you are in competition. Eat more carbohydrates for your body to pull energy from. Hydrate your body the night before; water is best. Have a snack available in your bag in case your energy drops during a long multiple hour match. If you think you need sugar for energy, use natural fruit to help out. Things to avoid: coffee and soft drinks - they actually dehydrate you. Acidic fruits like oranges or grapefruits are rough on your stomach and too much of one thing will weigh you down. Only take small bites and let your body digest to maximize your body s potential. Tennis Courts Reservation Policy With the Tennis Pro Shop being closed on Mondays, we will leave a reservation sheet at the courts for members to reserve courts when the Tennis Pro Shop is closed. We will keep the same policy in place, allowing you to reserve a court 7 days in advance. We only ask that you adhere to the hour and a half play time frame. If there is not a reservation after yours, please by all means, stay and play as long as you would like. We hope that will work and if you have any questions or comments please email me at: bjones@nbgcc.com. Thank you and we look forward to having busy courts this spring PAGE 5
