Welcome to Thriller Nights!!! ROCFest 2014 Are you a resident on campus? Do you want to get to know your campus and residence hall better? Then this is the week for you! RHA welcomes you and your hall to participate in completely re-vamped ROC Fest, a weeklong competition between the residence halls. ROC stands for Residents On Campus and this year we are going to be going on a trip of how ROC Fest has evolved into such an enormous event at EIU. This year, ROC Fest 2014 will be held in conjunction with NRHH s Breast Cancer Awareness week from Monday, September 22nd through Friday the 26th. This packet is a detailed explanation of each day s events, rules and a list of points possible. Everyone living in the Residence Halls is both welcomed and encouraged to participate in the events. But don t forget: you have to be currently residing in the hall you are competing for. Now, Be prepared because ROC Fest 2014 is underway! NRHH Breast Cancer Awareness Monday - Friday Library Quad, Coleman Hall, South Quad National Residence Hall Honorary s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Week will be occurring from September 22 September 26, 2014. We will be selling T-shirts in the Library Quad and outside Coleman Hall; shirts are on sale from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Mill s Foundation of Champaign. Since the beginning of NRHH s support of this organization five years ago, we have donated over $25,000. There will also be a dunk tank in the South Quad on September 26th from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. You have the opportunity to dunk staff, faculty and other personnel from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. We are also asking everyone to show support by wearing their EIU BCA shirts on September 26th. Window Painting Judging will take place on Monday, the 22nd at 8:30 PM Below is the rubric that will be used to judge the windows. Points 3 2 1 Creativity and Originality Very creative, clearly thought out Somewhat creative, not very original design Design clearly taken directly from web or some other outlet. Theme Theme easily recognizable Theme somewhat recognizable Theme is not present Attractiveness Patiently completed, words are legible and in correct direction (no backwards letters) Effort is clearly seen, some stray paint or backwards letters Somewhat hastily completed Effort Clearly multiple residents were included and windows are cleanly decorated. Rules Boat Relay Race Monday, the 22nd Judging begins at 4:30 PM Race begins at 5:00 PM Campus Pond 1. Teams will consist of AT LEAST five people. - This is a Relay Race with at Least Three Drivers and Two launchers. - Each teammate must reside in the hall they are representing. - The two launchers will push driver #1 and boat into the water and do the same for drivers #2 and #3. 2. Boats must be constructed out of cardboard and duct tape. - The boats must be boats. No kick boards, rafts, etc.. There must be a bottom and sides to qualify. Sides must be at least 3 inches tall in order to count as sides. A tape measure will be used to be sure. - Paddles can either be store bought or made. However, if you choose to make them, they must be constructed out of card board and duct tape. 3. There will be a decorating contest. - Boats will be judged on creativity, theme, and structure. - Overall theme or hall s sub-theme must be present and visible on boat. 4. First person AND boat across the pond 3 times is the winner. - You cannot willingly jump out of your boat or be aggressive with other participants. If you do, your residence hall will be disqualified from the Race. - If you fall out of your boat, you must find a way to get back into your boat. YOU MUST be in your boat when you cross in order to count as finishing the race. Waivers MUST be Signed Prior to Participating in this Event. Warning: The Pond is up to 15 feet deep. Lifeguards will be Present. All Participants MUST be able to Swim.
BINGO Tuesday, the 23rd 7:00-8:00 PM Lawson Hall Basement And BINGO was his name-o. Gather your residence hall and join us for a fun-filled evening of BINGO. We ll be playing for points for your residence hall and some fantastic prizes, but you have to be there to see what they are! Zombie Tag Wednesday, the 24th 6:00 8:00 PM Stevenson Lobby Tag!!! You re infected? Come play this Infectious game of Zombie Tag. Zombies will receive red bandanas to hand out to survivors that they tag. Survivors will receive white bandanas along with a hole punch card for check-ins. There will be three check-in points on different ends of campus. The goal of this is to get from one check-in to another without getting tagged. If a survivor is tagged by a zombie they must give the zombie their white bandana and then take their infected red bandana, You are now a zombie. The zombie with the most bandanas and the survivor with the most hole punches will get the most points for their hall. *While playing, your bandana MUST be clearly visible
Scavenger Hunt Thursday, the 25th 9AM-9PM Campus Wide Find out hidden secrets and collect points across campus with our 12 hour scavenger hunt that will take you from Old Main to Carman hall! Information will be sent through RHA representatives emails and Facebook. Please make sure all emails are up to date with us and to like us on Facebook EIU RHA. The RHA Representatives will be emailed both the scavenger hunt list as well as the rules for the Scavenger Hunt. Also, surprise points will be sent out randomly through both Facebook and Panthermail (i.e. social media outlets). P.S. No one is allowed to ditch class for the Scavenger Hunt. If you are discovered to have ditched class, your hall will be disqualified from participation in the scavenger hunt.
Closing Picnic and Community Service Friday, the 26th 11 AM- 2 PM South Quad Well, its official, your hall has survived the thrill of RHA s Thriller Nights, ROCFest 2014. Now that you ve put in all this work, it s time for some fun and service. Come join us in the South Quad for delicious food, entertainment, and community service. For every event that you attend throughout the week your name is going to get put into a bucket to win prizes. So get excited and make sure you attend all the Events!!! NRHH will also be hosting their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Week dunk tank in the South Quad during this time. Fill your stomach with a cookout meal hosted by Taylor and Thomas Dining Halls and dunk some faculty and staff in the process! Be sure to bring your Panther Card for your meal. Rachel Fisher will be hosting Community Service Blocks during the picnic giving you a chance to give back to others. Each Community Service Block you participate in will result in additional points for your hall.
Window Decorating Contest: 1st- 25 points 2nd- 20 points 3rd- 15 points 4th- 10 points All participating halls will receive 5 points if they do not place (i.e. if you win first you will only win 25 points, not 30 points). Point Breakdown Monday Boat Race: Boat Decorating Contest: 1st- 25 points 1st- 25 points 2nd- 20 points 2nd-20 points 3rd-15 points 3rd- 15 points Each of the hall s participamts will receive an additional 5 points. For each attendee the hall will receive one point. Tuesday Bingo: Each hall will receive 1 point per signed in attendee. Wednesday Zombie Tag: 1st- 30 points 2nd- 25 points 3rd- 20 points Halls will receive 1 points for each attendee. Thursday 12 Hour Scavenger Hunt The hall that completes the most of the scavenger hunt list will receive first place, second most will earn second place and so on. 1st- 30 points 2nd- 25 points 3rd- 15 points 4th- 10 points All participating halls will receive 5 points if they do not place (i.e. if you win first you will only win 30 points, not 35 points). Friday Closing Picnic: Each person that attends will earn 1 point for their hall and will earn an additional 5 points for every Community Service Block they complete.
The Babies Are Back That s right. The Panther Babies are coming back this year. 200 Babies will be hiding this year and will be hidden all over campus. They really like to hide at the event locations. Each Panther Baby you find will have instructions telling you how you will retrieve your points and how much each Panther Baby is worth. So be on the lookout for these adorable little things!!! Attention!!! Rumors have revealed a Rare Golden Panther Baby has Escaped this Year. If found, this baby is worth 10 points for your Hall! Warning: Panther Baby searching is not permitted to start until RHA posts on the Facebook page that they have been released. Also, following an E-Board member hiding Babies will get your hall disqualified from the Panther Hunt.
