The team will be returning three of its key starters in senior Kat Wright, junior Sasha Cedeno and redshirt junior Raven Doyle. The veteran Wright is the lone senior on the team and will be tasked with leading the way for her fellow Owls. She brings a career 35.5 field goal percentage and averaged 11.7 points last season. Cedeno will be a threat from beyond the arc as she shot 44.7% last season while Doyle brings consistency on both sides of the ball averaging 3.1 rebounds per game and a.369 field goal percentage in 2015-16. Additional returners include juniors Danneal Ford, Malia Kency, Nika Zyryanova, Melinda Myers and sophomore Ra Kyra Gabriel. On the boards, the Owls will be led by Myers. She is the program s leading returning rebounder averaging 5.3 boards per game. Wright is the second leading returner with 4.6 rebounds per game. Head coach Kellie Lewis-Jay also snagged seven up-and-comers to add to her arsenal. These freshmen will add depth to the roster as they bring championship experience and numerous honors including All-State, All-County, All-Star and MVP. Lewis-Jay has completed the package by bringing in assistant coaches Cindy Hilbrich and Kachine Alexander as well as director of operations Hannah McGonigal. Hilbrich and Alexander bring a combined 13 years of coaching experience and time spent playing at both the collegiate and professional levels. McGonigal gained her expertise working for five different Division I institutions. To prep for the regular season, the team recently concluded a Canadian tour in which they won all three of their contests. In the final game against Camosun College, FAU had their largest margin of victory with a score of 109-51, surpassing the century mark for the first time. The Owls outrebounded their Charger opponents and held them to just five third quarter points.of the Owls that saw the floor, all but one scored. The Owls now set their sights on the regular season with the first game to be held at home against Florida Memorial on November 11 at 7 p.m. ET. FAU will start Conference USA play on the road against WKU on Friday, Dec. 30, Marshall on New Year s Day, and rival FIU on Saturday, Jan. 7. The C-USA slate for the Owls features six opponents scheduled for home-and-home contests, including FIU, UAB, and reigning conference champion Middle Tennessee. 1

2015-16 in Review The Florida Atlantic University women s basketball team got off to its best start since 1991 and set several school records over the course of the 2015-16 campaign with upper-class leadership paving the way. The Owls finished the year 14-16 with a 6-12 mark in Conference USA (C-USA) and maintained their reputation as a dangerous long-range team, setting numerous three-point records. FAU shattered the program and C-USA marks for most three-pointers in a season (294) by 30 baskets. The Owls also recorded their highest three-point percentage (35.0) on a record 839 attempts. FAU fell just short of North Texas in the first round of the C-USA Tournament with a final score of 79-74. The Owls battled back with 46 points in the second half but could not overcome the Mean Green. Then redshirt sophomore Raven Doyle tallied a career-high 15 points while Kat Wright recorded 12 points. Senior Ali Gorrell posted two of the most prolific halves of basketball in C-USA and NCAA history with 30 second-half points in the C-USA Tournament game against North Texas and 24 in the second half at Southern Miss. The Colorado native led FAU with 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game while fellow senior Morgan Robinson also averaged double-digit scoring for the year. Then junior Kat Wright broke the FAU record and tied the C-USA mark, draining 11 three-pointers at Charlotte on Jan. 30, just one shy of the NCAA single-game record. Wright also tied the FAU singlegame three-point percentage mark with a 6-of-7 outing against Marshall on Jan. 7, a game that saw the Owls drain 17 from beyond the arc. Head Coach Kellie Lewis-Jay Fifth Season Boise State, 98 Kellie Lewis-Jay joined Florida Atlantic University as its head coach in May 2012. Lewis-Jay, the fourth head coach in the young program s 28-year existence, came to FAU as an accomplished student, athlete, coach and mentor. She also has served as an assistant coach in the Pac 10, Big 12 and Big Ten Conferences and represented each league in the NCAA Tournament. In her first season at the helm at FAU, Lewis-Jay led the Owls to a 12-17 overall record and a 9-11 mark in the Sun Belt Conference in FAU s final season in the SBC. Her squad finished 15th in the nation in turnover margin and 30th in the country in steals per game. In 2013-14, Lewis-Jay embarked on her fourth conference in as many years as FAU joined Conference USA. Lewis-Jay s 2013-14 squad finished the season with 2,331 points in 30 games, the second highest scoring mark and average in school history. Her team shattered the school record with 264 three-pointers, 83 more than the previous mark. The Owls also set school records for largest margin of victory (77 vs. Florida Memorial, 11/16/13) and most steals (33, same game) en route to a 16-14 record. FAU broke a Conference USA record with 20 threepointers in the regular-season finale against UTEP on March 5. Senior Kimberly Smith was named Second Team All-Conference USA after shattering multiple FAU and C-USA records. In 2014-15, Lewis-Jay helmed the youngest Division I team in the nation with eight freshmen, and only one third-year player, to a 13-17 mark, earning the No. 10 seed in the C-USA Tournament. The Owls finished the year ranked second in the conference in threepointers made with 206 and in free throw shooting at.719. Sophomore Shaneese Bailey was named First Team All-Conference USA while Malia Kency was named to the All-Freshman team. In 2015-16, the team got off to its best start since 1991 and set several school records over the course of the 2015-16 campaign with upper-class leadership paving the way. The Owls finished the year 14-16 with a 6-12 mark in C-USA and maintained their reputation as a dangerous long-range team. FAU shattered the program and C-USA marks for most threepointers in a season (294) by 30 baskets. The Owls also recorded their highest three-point percentage (35.0) on a record 839 attempts. Lewis-Jay served five seasons at the University of Nebraska where she coordinated Nebraska s recruiting efforts. Those efforts gleaned a top-25 recruiting class in 2011, the highest for a program under the direction of Connie Yori (Nebraska s current head coach), and also helped the Huskers to the best season in school history in 2009-10. NU finished with a 32-2 record, including a perfect 16-0 conference mark to capture the school s first Big 12 regular-season crown. Lewis-Jay also helped the Huskers to their first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance and their second NCAA Tournament trip in her first three seasons in Lincoln and WNIT appearance in 2009. Lewis-Jay joined Yori s Husker staff in 2007, after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at Washington. Lewis-Jay helped the Huskies to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007, before aiding Nebraska s run to another NCAA Tournament bid in 2008. coaching responsibilities, including opponent scouting. She also was responsible for developing Nebraska s guard play. Lewis-Jay was instrumental in helping Washington sign one of the nation s top recruiting classes for the 2007-08 season, as the sixplayer class was ranked eighth nationally at the time of signing by Blue Star on Nov. 8, 2006. Lewis-Jay joined current Husker assistant coach Sunny Smallwood on the Washington staff in 2003-04, and both Lewis- Jay and Smallwood are graduates of Boise State University. The connections to the state of Washington helped the Huskers sign 2009 Washington Gatorade High School Player of the Year Lindsey Moore, a third-team Parade High School All-American and a 2010 Big 12 All-Freshman selection as NU s starting point guard. Lewis-Jay s duties at Washington included opponent scouting, coordinating the Husky defense, recruiting, on-floor coaching and serving as the team s academic coordinator. A native of Auburn, California, Lewis-Jay was a standout at Boise State after attending Placer High School. After completing her playing career, Lewis-Jay began her coaching career at the high school and club levels. Lewis-Jay was named the head girls coach at Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, Idaho, for the start of the 1998-99 season. She led Bishop Kelly to a five-year record of 87-33, including a runner-up showing at the 2002 state championships. Lewis-Jay led the prep varsity team to a district championship in 2003, after guiding the junior varsity team to district crowns in 1999 and 2000. Lewis-Jay also was named the District 3 Junior Varsity Coach of the Year in 2000. Aside from her prep coaching duties, Lewis-Jay established the Idaho Elite in 1999, a competitive summer team based in Boise. Members of Lewis-Jay s Idaho Elite team included 25 all-state athletes, as well as 12 NCAA Division I signees. Among those standout players were Huskies Maggie O Hara and Emily Florence. Led by O Hara and Florence, the Idaho Elite won the 2002 Midsummer Nights Madness Tournament title in Seattle. Along with displaying excellence on the court, Lewis-Jay performed well in the classroom. She was a four-time academic all-conference pick, including 1995 and 1996 selections to the Big Sky team and 1997 and 1998 nods to the Big West team. Lewis-Jay s name still appears among many single-season and career top-10 lists in Bronco history. She ranks second in three-point field goals made (163), second in three-point field goals attempted (484), second in free-throw percentage (.807) and ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.337). Her 829 career points also rank 20th in the Bronco record books. Lewis-Jay established single-season school records for three-pointers made (76) and attempted (205) in 1996-97, which have since been surpassed. Her 61 treys in 1997-98 rank seventh all-time. Her.830 free-throw shooting percentage in 1997-98 remains the fourth-best on the BSU single-season list in that category. Lewis-Jay also shares the single-game school record for three-pointers with seven. An outstanding all-around player, Lewis-Jay led the Broncos in six categories during her junior season, including scoring (12.2 ppg), field goals made (107), three-pointers made (76), free-throw percentage (.765), assists (69) and steals (48). She was the team leader in three-pointers in 1998 (61) and 1995 (20), in three-point field goal percentage in 1995 (.328), in free-throw percentage in 1998 (.830), and assists in 1998 (76). Lewis-Jay was a standout at Placer High School in Auburn, California, where she graduated in 1994 as the school s valedictorian. She led Placer to four Sierra Foothill League Championships. Lewis- Jay earned league MVP honors during her senior campaign, and was also a three-time all-conference selection. She was a three-year team captain and two-time team MVP. Lewis-Jay earned her bachelor s degree in social science/public affairs with an emphasis in sociology and psychology from Boise State in 1998. Lewis-Jay was born Feb. 18, 1976. She is married to Chris Jay and the couple has a daughter, Kobie. Lewis-Jay was a four-year letterwinner and a two-time team captain as a player at Boise State. Her list of collegiate accolades included a pair of All-Big West Conference selections in 1997 and 1998, as well as Boise State team MVP honors those same seasons. During her senior campaign, Lewis-Jay earned Big West Conference All-Tournament honors, after being named the MVP of the Boise State Tournament. She also was honored as a twotime recipient of the National Arthur Ashe Scholar Athlete Award in 1997 and 1998. The offices are located in the FAU Arena on the Boca Raton Campus.
