This cycle tour is being hosted for the 41 st time! This is again a specially organised budget train tour (like in the olden days ) with only cyclists, their family members & friends, as well as supporters on the train. You will be sleeping on the train whilst in Cape Town for one night. (This is to help us & you saving costs). Tourist Class train Expo Are you tired of driving, looking for accommodation and worrying about the logistics? We ll take you there just like the past number of years. When traveling by train, you don t have to worry about increasing petrol prices, tollgate fees, heavy traffic, driving back or sitting with stiff legs in your car. The long road through the Karoo becomes shorter AND you can enjoy a cold beer en route. It is so much easier and VERY price-competitive. pg. 1
WHO SHOULD GO ON THIS TOUR from anywhere. Clubs, groups, couples, individuals - any person who is interested in going to Cape Town and/or the Cycle Tour may join this tour. I.e.: Cyclists, supporters, family, friends, children and girlfriend, Your bicycle travels with you on the same train at R250 per bicycle (both directions). One bicycle per passenger. (You re welcome to bring a friend s bicycle). Please note that this tour is on a special Tourist Class train organised by us for you. The whole train is for the use of the Cycle Tour s passengers. Accommodation over the Cycle Tour weekend in Cape Town is normally very scarce and expensive. However, you ll sleep in CPT for one night on the train. This tour is not only about the Cycle Tour, but about traveling & staying well and enjoying Cape Town and its amenities. The grapes are sweet, the weather normally good, the sea beautiful and the mountain clear. After all, you have to take (only) two of days leave so enjoy it! On this tour you ll have ample time to register for the race, visit the Expo and tuning your bike whilst in the Mother City. The whole Saturday is at your own leisure. Starting line in Cape Town Spectators This Cycle race is very special. When standing on the Cape Town s Grand Parade at the starting line with 35000 other cyclists, experiencing the adrenaline rush, many voices and smell of Deep Heat, it is not to be forgotten. Cape Town s railway station is within walking distance from the starting line and fairly close to the Bike Expo at the Cape Town Stadium. Children younger than 2 years of age, sharing a bed with the parent, can travel free of Transport on the Tourist Class train from Jo burg to Cape Town and INCLUDED IN THE TOUR PRICE back; four nights accommodation on the train (bedding included), certain meals, fun, safety, security & tour leader. EXCLUDED FROM THE TOUR PRICE Entry to the race, entry fees at tourist destinations, Public transportation in CPT, transportation of your bicycle on the train, expenses of a personal nature, Comprehensive Travel Insurance, gratuities, drinks and meals not mentioned. Closing date is when all the places are fully booked. (Like all the previous years.) We suggest you book now. Group/club/family bookings are welcome. NB Deposits will not be paid back, but can be transferred/resold to someone else, with the consent of the tour organisers. DEPOSIT A R1500 per person non-refundable deposit is needed when booking is done. The balance is to be paid by latest six weeks before departure date. I.e.: 24 th January 2019. MEALS Four breakfasts, two lunches and three dinners (set meals) are included in the tour price. You are welcome to take along some padkos and ice. (Limited ice available on the train). You may bring your own drinks on tour but it will not be allowed in the dining or lounge cars. Please note that dinner is NOT served on day of departure from Jo burg. Dining car Lounge car The dining car can take maximum 38 people per session. You ll be allocated to a specific meal time. DON T change it! You will upset many other passengers. Take away meals will be served as well. There is a small tuck shop on the train (in the dining car, serving beer, wine DRINKS ON THE TRAIN and limited other alcoholic drinks & hard chips). There is a lounge car with full bar facilities. (We suggest you bring your own classes). ROUTE You will travel from Johannesburg to Cape Town via Krugersdorp, Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Christiana, Warrenton, Kimberley, De Aar, Beaufort West, Laingsburg, Matjiesfontein and Worcester. Passengers may join at any of the official stopping places for the train en route. (See below). The tour price remains the same. Trains often run very late. ACCOMMODATION Is provided on the train (four nights) for the duration of tour. BEDDING It is provided - on the train. Bring your own towel for the train. TRANSPORTATION IN CAPE TOWN Passengers can make use of the public bus system in Cape Town especially between the train station and the V&A Waterfront. One can walk as well but not alone. It is transported in the Guard s Van on the train. Please wrap or TRANSPORTATION OF BICYCLES box it yourself AND put your name and cell phone number on the box/bicycle. Bicycles must be at the station by latest 90 minutes before departure of the train at Johannesburg station. Loading of bicycles will be at Platform 16. Safe storage space is available at the station. RACE INFORMATION Please read your Cycle Tour information brochure well or visit their website at: http://www.cycletour.co.za REGISTRATION Registration for the race will be in the Cape Town Stadium. There is a bus service available from opposite the station (or use your bicycle) for this 2.5 km trip. Ride there Not only will you loosen your legs for the big day but you will also reduce your carbon footprint.
