I may be contacted at: 660-665-9866 (Michelle Klem) 4-H ROYALTY REQUIREMENTS MUST COMPLETE A REPORT FORM King and Queen 14 and over (4-H age as of January 1 of program year) and with at least 2 years of club work completed. Must complete a Missouri Recognition Form Level III and a personal interview. Prince and Princess ages 8 13 (4-H age as of January 1 of program year) and with at least 1 year of completed club work. Must complete a Missouri Recognition Form Level I or II and a personal interview. Any member who completes a report form, and meets the age and club work requirements, may run for the Sullivan County 4-H Royalty Court. Submit this application with your report form by September 30, 2013. Royalty Candidates need to be sure to include a photograph that can be published in the newspaper. The interview date will be Wednesday, October 2nd, at 7:00 pm at the Milan Community Center for all candidates. The interview questions may be about yourself, 4-H, and your report form. The judges selections are sealed until Recognition when they are announced and the new Royalty court is crowned. Members of the 4-H Royalty have duties to perform at Recognition the following year and also at the County fair. A Sullivan County 4-H Royalty Candidate Application may be picked up at the Extension Office or contact your club leader. 1
SUCCESSFUL CLOVER KID DAY CAMP HELD AT TRENTON Clover Kid 4-H members from Sullivan County participants were Clay McNish, Tucker Tipton and Brett Otto and one Sullivan County parent attended. Pat Wood, Linn & Livingston County 4-H YPA, was a leader for the camp. The Clover Kids got to do leather, swimming, hiking and staying overnight in a cabin at Crowder State Park. 2013 PUTNAM COUNTY GUN & SUPPLY RAFFLE 31 Chances to WIN during the month of OCTOBER!! Donate $20 to the Putnam County 4-H Building Fund and you're entered in a daily drawing for the Gun & Supply Raffle. Watch the "MO Lottery Pick 3" each night during October for your ticket number. Winner can chose $150 cash prize in lieu of merchandise if they choose. STATE 4-H FASHION REVUE A State 4-H Fashion Revue! The event is Saturday, September 21st. All registrations need to be at the Sullivan County Extension Office no later than Friday, August 9th. Cost is $25 per person Registration and health forms are available at http://4h.missouri.edu/ events/fashionrevue/. - Both are needed. HORSE PROJECT LEADER INFOR- MATION: DID YOU KNOW? For horse project support I d recommend your new leader check out the 4-H project link on our web page for horses at this link http://4h.missouri.edu/projects/ projects3.htm#horses There are tons of free resources to help them get started. The Youth Leaders Manual notes book is still current. It supposed to be a check out item cause it costs about $50 to replace. Leaders can make copies of the worksheets. Let me know if you want an email copy of the manual and I ll send you one. The most current horse project leader help guide (these are lesson plans) is available as a CD from Extension publications as LG1470 for $4. Or you can burn a copy to give your leader by going to the S: drive, look under the projects folder; then go to horse modules. I d burn the pdf version for the CD to give to your leader. Rather than buying an Every time every ride video check out these from the internet. The link for the opportunities list can be found at http://4h.missouri.edu/events/horse / NATIONAL 4-H CONFERENCE NEW PROCESS FOR SELECTING DELE- GATES FOR THE 2013-14 PROGRAM YEAR Teresa Bishop Are you interested in government, public policy or working with others to solve a problem in your community? National 4-H Conference may be the place for you. It is the premier professional and leadership development event for 4-H members (15-19). While at National Conference you will work with other youth to create solutions to some of today s social problems such as distracted driving, childhood obesity and others. You will then have the opportunity to present your ideas to government agencies that can put your ideas to work such as the National Institute for Health, the National Traffic Safety Board and others. You will learn effective ways to advocate for an issue and can bring these skills home to your local community. If you are interested in this opportunity you will need to complete the Level 3 State Excellence Award form, answer an additional four questions about your Citizenship experiences and if selected for Regional or State judging prepare up to a five minute presentation about a current topic. Youth may only participate in this conference once. You may apply multiple times as long as you are still age eligible. 3
SHOOTING SPORTS LEADER CER- TIFICATION- OCTOBER 4-6 Gerry Snapp The fall Shooting Sports leader certification workshop is schedule to take place at Camp Galilee, El Dorado Springs, October 4-6. Parents or other adults wishing to help their local 4- H shooting program by becoming a certified instructor should attend. Pre-registration must be received by the state 4-H office by the Monday after the last day of the State Shoot, September 23. Workshops often fill before the deadline date. So, don t delay, act early. If a 4-H member is interested in being part of the 2014 state shooting teams please read the information and return your registration by the due date. Smallbore rifle try-outs registration is due September 21. Archery, Muzzleloading, Smallbore Pistol and Shotgun pre-registration is due October 1. Details and registration form can be found on the 4-H Shooting Sports web site: http://4h.missouri.edu/go/projects/ shootingsports/contests.htm WINIGAN FAIR The Winigan Fair is scheduled for September 6 th, 7 th and 8 th (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). The livestock shows should be held on Saturday, September 7 th. There is no flyer available yet. WESTERN HERITAGE & COWBOY SHOOTING STATE MATCH - SEPTEMBER 7-8 Gerry Snapp The Missouri 4-H Western Heritage & Cowboy Shooting project will hold its State Match, September 7-8, at the range of the Missouri Southern Rangers near Marshfield. Saturday will see a cowboy shooting event for the intermediate age members; and a fun side match of long-range buffalo guns for all youth. Sunday will be the senior event which includes cowboy action shooting, period clothing evaluation, and a western heritage quiz. This is a family event with a group cook out on Saturday evening. If you are part of a local 4-H Western Heritage group, make plans to attend. Additional details and registration information will be sent directly to local leaders. 4
