LMU Athletics Spirit Program Tryout FAQ s What are the eligibility requirements? All candidates must be current students of Loyola Marymount University with a minimum GPA of 2.0 All candidates must be enrolled full-time (12 hours/units) to be eligible All candidates must be in good disciplinary and academic standing with the University. All tryout documents and fee are to be submitted by stated deadline prior to tryouts Will there be one team, or will cheer and dance have their own respective teams? There will be two teams within the LMU Spirit Program. There will be the traditional cheer team (stunts and tumbling) and a dance team. How many members will be selected for each cheer and dance team? The actual numbers may vary depending on the number of qualified candidates trying out. However, ideally, the cheer team will have 20 members and the dance team will have 10 members. Does LMU cheer and dance have a height/weight requirement? We do not have any height and weight requirements. Personal health and fitness are an important aspect of the program and candidates are expected to maintain a healthy physique and mind throughout the season. Both cheer and dance team members are required to attend workout sessions with the programs athletic trainer (workouts will begin the week of September 17 th What is the time commitment of the program? Both cheer and dance teams will practice 2-3 days a week in the mornings. Final schedule for each team will be finalized prior to tryouts Members of the LMU Spirit Program are expected to attend all home men s and women s basketball games, select volleyball and soccer games, as well as various community and university events. A select group from each team will travel to the WCC tournament in March to Las Vegas. What is the financial expectation if selected to be part of the LMU Spirit Program?
The initial $25 tryout fee All other expenses will be raised through donations and fundraising events, to which all team members are expected to participate. Does the LMU Spirit Program compete? 2018-19 is considered a rebuilding year for the LMU Spirit Program. Competition is tentative for this season. What skills and qualities are you looking for? Friendly, coachable, dedicated and able to represent the University and Sprit Program as an ambassador. What are the qualifications for the cheer team? Tumbling: Standing back handspring *We will consider non-tumblers if they excel in other areas during the tryout process Stunts: Candidates should demonstrate competitive level stunts and will be judged on their execution of these potential skills Extension Liberty, Scale, Arabesque, Heel stretch (Flyers) Single and/or Double downs (Flyers) Full ups What are the qualifications for the dance team? Candidates should demonstrate outstanding technique and execution of the following dance skills Double & Triple Pirouettes Grand jete Switch leap Calypso Leap in second Tilt jump Toe Touch Leg extension
LMU Athletics Spirit Program Tryout Requirements Required Documents Due No Later Than Wednesday September 5th Proof of physical within last 12 months. Physical must include date and physician signature. (Must use Loyola Marymount University Athletic Department Physical Form). Signed Release of Liability Completed Tryout Application Copy of medical insurance card (front and back) 4x6 or larger head shot photo attached (not stapled) to application $25 non-refundable application fee (cash or cashier s check) Video submissions will NOT be allowed for 2018-19 season Appearance Game ready Wear hair and make-up that projects a polished collegiate image (foundation, eyes, red lips). Tattoos should be covered and not visible All piercings (except ears) are to be removed Cheer candidates must wear black shorts and black tops no logos visible unless its LMU or Adidas Dance candidates must wear black shorts, skin colored tights, black top and jazz shoes. Cheer Team Tryout Material Standing and running tumbling For stunting portion, each candidate will be judged based off their stunting position; however, there is a possibility that you will be asked to tryout a different position.
