HEAD COACH BELINDA BOE PEARMAN Birthdate: August 5, 1962 Hometown: Hagerstown, Md. Education: B.S., Maryland, 1984 Coaching: Head Coach, Regina High (Md.), 1984-85 Assistant Coach, Maryland, 1985-97 Assistant Coach, New England Blizzard, 1997-98 Associate Head Coach, New England Blizzard, 1998-99 Head Coach, Rhode Island, 1999-present After just four short years at the helm of the University of Rhode Island, for head coach Boe Pearman and the Rams, The Tide Has Turned. The Rams have posted a 13-14 mark during the 2002-03 campaign and in 2001-02 the Rams notched the ninthbest record in school history with a 15-13 mark. During her time at URI, Pearman has coached a two-time all-conference player and had six players earn Rookie of the Week honors. She has also transformed the Rams into the top defensive team in the league, holding opponents to just 61.4 points per game this season. Prior to arriving at Rhode Island, Pearman spent two years with the American Basketball League s most popular franchise, the New England Blizzard, first as an assistant then as associate head coach on Hall-of-Famer K.C. Jones staff. In Pearman s first season, New England climbed out of the Eastern Division s cellar into the playoffs after posting a 24-20 record and a second-place finish. Pearman worked with former All-Americans Jennifer Rizzotti, Kara Wolters and Deanna Tate along with Olympian Carolyn Jones in her tenure with the Blizzard. Thirteen games into the 1998-99 campaign, the ABL disbanded. Pearman is regarded as one of the most important figures in the storied history of the women s basketball program at her alma mater, Maryland. She arrived at College Park from nearby Hagerstown as a high school All-American in 1980. Four years later, Pearman concluded one of the most storied careers in the program s history. She s the 13 th leading scorer (1,284) and rebounder (574) in Terrapin history, and is ranked in Maryland s top 15 in seven categories including games started (98) and played (118), blocked shots (36) and field goal percentage (.498). She also earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference second-team honors in 1984, and was selected to the 1982 All-ACC Tournament team. It is the team s success, however, that tells the real story. One of the nation s premier programs under then head coach Chris Weller, Maryland was ranked in the Associated Press Top 20 every week of Pearman s playing career. The Terrapins dominated the ACC, capturing three consecutive conference titles from 1981 to 1983. Not only did Maryland earn post-season bids in all four of her years as a Terrapin, the team advanced deep into tournament play. In her freshman year in 1981, Maryland advanced to the Elite Eight of the final AIAW Tournament. Pearman and her teammates continued their winning ways the following three years competing in the NCAA Tournament. In 1982, Maryland reached the first NCAA Women s Basketball Final Four, and made the Sweet 16 the following season. Pearman parlayed her experience as player into a career as a college coach with similar results. In her 12 seasons on Weller s coaching staff, she help guide Maryland to three Atlantic Coast Conference titles (1986, 88 and 89) and eight NCAA Tournament appearances. The Terrapins reached the Final Four in 1989, and the Elite Eight in 1988 and 1992. Maryland was the top-ranked team in the nation heading into the 1992 NCAA Tournament before losing in the regional finals. As the coordinator of Maryland s recruiting program, Pearman s efforts were critical to the program s lofty achievements. She was responsible for the 1994 recruiting class that was ranked as high as fourth nationally. Among Pearman s recruits were two players who played for the U.S. Select Team, four players on the U.S. Junior-National Team and eight individuals who participated in the U.S. Olympic Festival as well as three ACC Rookie-of-the-Year Award winners. 16

Prior to joining the Maryland coaching staff, Pearman served as the head coach at Regina High School in Hyattsville, Md., for one season. In her first season as a coach, she led Regina High to its most successful season ever in the as it defeated the No. 1 ranked team in the Maryland Area Catholic League. 1980-81 Maryland Player 19-9 ACC Champion, AIAW Elite Eight 1981-82 Maryland Player 25-7 ACC Champion, NCAA Final Four 1982-83 Maryland Player 26-5 ACC Champion, NCAA Sweet 16 1983-84 Maryland Player 19-10 NCAA Tournament 1984-85 Regina High Head Coach 1985-86 Maryland Assistant Coach 17-13 ACC Champion, NCAA Tournament 1986-87 Maryland Assistant Coach 15-14 1987-88 Maryland Assistant Coach 26-6 ACC Champion, NCAA Elite Eight 1988-89 Maryland Assistant Coach 29-3 ACC Champion, NCAA Final Four 1989-90 Maryland Assistant Coach 19-11 NCAA Tournament 1990-91 Maryland Assistant Coach 17-13 NCAA Tournament 1991-92 Maryland Assistant Coach 25-6 NCAA Elite Eight 1992-93 Maryland Assistant Coach 22-8 NCAA Tournament 1993-94 Maryland Assistant Coach 15-13 1994-95 Maryland Assistant Coach 11-18 1995-96 Maryland Assistant Coach 13-14 1996-97 Maryland Assistant Coach 18-10 NCAA Tournament 1997-98 N.
