PARTY written by David M Troop copyright (c) 2016 dtroop506@gmail.com

FADE IN: EXT. CHUCK E. CHEESE - DAY, a hot 40, dressed in a mini-skirt and high heels, stands outside the restaurant with her daughter, a very cute 10-year-old with pigtails and glasses. They wave to the cameraman, DAD. We're here at Chuck E. Cheese for Kayla's tenth birthday party! Woo! Kayla looks at the CAMERA, shakes her head. INT. CHUCK E. CHEESE - ENTS LATER Kayla sits at the head of the brightly decorated table surrounded by five GIRLS, all about ten years old. GIRL 1 My dad had to tell my mom I was going to the mall. GIRL 2 I thought your mom was banned. No, that was the Chuck E. Cheese in Fresno. They don't know us here. Mom kneels down beside Kayla. WHACK-A-MOLE GAME Hey, girls, what are you talking about? Nothing, Mom. Okay, then. Come on, girls! Let's get this party started! Woo! Mom looks on as GIRL 3 taps lightly at the moles. Come on, Jill. You're killing me. Mom grabs the club from her and pounds the moles into submission, lets out a loud grunt with each whack.

2. AIR HOCKEY MACHINE Mom and Girl 1 play an intense game of air hockey. Mom slaps the puck wildly, as it ricochets from one end of the table to the other. Girl 1 gives up, folds her arms. The puck finally slams into the slot. ROCK WALL In your face! Yes! Kayla and GIRL 4, in proper protective gear, climb the wall. Over to the side, Mom, in her mini-skirt and high heels, ascends the wall next to them. Come on girls, I'll race you. Mom yodels as she climbs higher. Kayla looks up and notices Mom's leopard skin panties, shakes her head. SODA FOUNTAIN Mom waits in line with a group of KIDS, refills her cup. She takes a flask from her blouse, empties it into the cup. Mom chugs the soda as the children in line look at her. ROPE LADDER I have allergies. Kayla runs up to the camera. Dad, I can't find Mom. The pizza's coming soon. Dad's finger enters the frame, points. Kayla turns to see -- still in high heels, climbs the rope ladder. Lets out a drunken Tarzan yell. She laughs uncontrollably and screams as the rope ladder wobbles then spins and dumps her face down into the ball pit. Mom laughs and snorts as she swims through the ball pit.

3. Kayla and her friends sit and eat pizza. Mom staggers back and forth in the background. Her words begin to slur. TWO I can't find my shoe. Bob, put down the camera and help me find my shoe. An ASIAN FAMILY sit and celebrate their son's birthday. ASIAN DAD stands and makes a toast to his SON, 8, in fluent Chinese. Everyone at the table raises their cups. Mom slowly appears from under the table. I'm sorry. Did you see a black high heeled shoe? Size eight? She stands up. Embarrassed. Bows to Asian Dad. I apologize. So sorry. So sorry. Mom walks away as the Asian family watches, perplexed. CHUCK E. CHEESE STAGE The animatronic puppets perform a song. After a beat, Mom wanders on from backstage. She soon realizes where she is, seizes the opportunity. The crowd cheers as Mom staggers over to the puppets and performs a go-go dance. MAN (V.O.) Attention, co-workers. Nick to the stage, please. Nick to the stage. Mom flips off the audience. Suck it, San Diego! Kayla sits before her birthday cake as her friends sing The Happy Birthday Song. Mom, now totally plastered, kneels next to Kayla and sings a drunken version. After the song, Kayla blows out her candles. Her friends clap and cheer.

4. Mom bawls. Tears and mascara stream down her face. She kisses Kayla repeatedly on her cheek. My baby girl, My baby girl is ten. I love you so much. You're growing up so fast. Are you getting boobies? Kayla cannot take this anymore. Mom! Stop it! You ruin everything! What? I love you. I just want you to have a nice party. You're ten! This isn't about me turning ten! This is about you turning forty! What? Honey, that's not true. I'm only thirty-nine. Mom, you can't be a party girl forever. Just grow up! Kayla storms off. Mom sits. Wipes her tears on a Chuck E. Cheese napkin. Weeps hysterically. SKEEBALL MACHINES Who wants cake? Kayla's friends roll the wooden balls into the white hoops, scream and clap as tickets spit out. Mom sits on the edge of a broken skeeball machine, sobs. She wipes away the tears, looks around the room. Innocent, happy children run and laugh all around her. Mom breathes in, takes off her shoe, and stands. Kayla opens a present and hugs GIRL 5. Kayla notices something O.S. She puts down the present, stands, and walks over to--

5. DARK CORNER Mom stands alone in the corner, watches her daughter. Kayla walks up to Mom. They talk calmly, but their conversation is drowned out by the noise of the room. Both Kayla and Mom wipe away tears. Mom kneels down and gives her daughter a huge hug. Kayla takes Mom's hand and leads her back to the-- Mom, Kayla, and DAD, 40's, huddle together for the camera. GIRL 1 (O.S.) Okay, say Chuck E. Cheese. Chuck E. Cheese! Happy birthday, Kayla. We love you. DAD Happy birthday, pumpkin. Mom and Dad each turn and kiss Kayla on the cheek. We love you, San Diego! Woo! Kayla laughs and shakes her head. Mom! Okay, it might take a little time. A FLASH, as a camera SNAPS a picture. INSERT A photo with a Chuck E. Cheese border develops. Mom, Dad, and Kayla smile at us. Mom's fingers give Kayla bunny ears. FADE OUT
