Simple Prevention Tips: Vehicle Burglary Always roll up the windows and lock the car. Never leave valuables in plain view, even if your car is locked. Put them in the trunk or at least out of sight. Park in busy, well-lighted area. Remove portable electronic devices such as smart phones and GPS navigation systems, including suction cup or bean bag type mounts. (Even the visible appearance of a suction cup ring on the glass windshield can be an enticement to a thief to break in and look for the GPS system.) When you pay to park in a lot or garage, leave just the ignition or valet key with the attendant. Make sure no personal information is attached. Do the same when you take your car for repairs When shopping this holiday season, do not place a load of purchases in your car and then return to the store to continue shopping. If a thief sees you, it is likely your car will become a target. Relocate your vehicle to a new parking spot before returning to the store. If you see suspicious person(s) or activity in your neighborhood or business, call Cerritos Sheriff s Station at (562) 860-0044 or 911 immediately. It s a good idea to keep the Sheriff s Station phone number stored in your cell phone for quick reference. Some types of crimes or incidents can be reported online on the Sheriff s Online Report Tracking System (SORTS) at http://shq.lasdnews.net/shq/sorts/sorts_intro.aspx. Criminals are deterred by informed, vigilant, and involved citizens. Remember - see something, say something.
