Last season, Coach Reid led the team to their first Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament berth, knocking off Catawba in the regular season finale to assure post-season play for the first time since the program became an NCAA member. In her first season, Coach Reid s team made the transition to becoming full members of NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference. Coach Reid comes to Brevard after one year as the assistant women s basketball coach at the University of Albany, a NCAA Division I program in Albany, New York. While at Albany, Reid was in charge of academics, scheduling, scouting and recruiting. Her on-court duties included guard development and defensive strategies and concepts. Reid received 2008 Coach of the Year honors as the team finished No. 28 in the nation in team steals and posted an 11-7 America East Conference record, which is a program record. Prior to the University of Albany, Reid spent two seasons at Clayton State University in Morrow, Ga., where she helped lead the Lakers to the 2007 NCAA Division II Final Four. Clayton State finished 29-6 overall in 2006-07 and captured the Peach Belt Conference championship. The Lakers, who were ranked as high as fourth nationally, made a second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Prior to her appointment at Clayton State, Reid was an assistant at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, a Division II program in the Peach Belt Conference. Reid helped lead the Pacers to a 19-13 record and an NCAA appearance. Reid played professionally for the Ladies National League in Dublin, Ireland from 2003-04. A native of Hudson, N.C., Reid earned her bachelor s degree in sports management from Pfeiffer University in 2003. Reid, a three-year member of the Pfeiffer women s basketball team, was named Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) Player of the Year and was a two-time all-cvac first-team honoree. Reid scored more than 1,000 career points in her career for the Falcons and led her team to its first-ever NCAA Tournament. She was a twotime team MVP and the university s Athlete of the Year. TORNADO NOTES She s not on the Fritz: Candice Fritz has stepped into the post role that head coach Shannon Reid wanted her to smoothly so far. After two games this season Fritz has averaged 10.5 points per game. Young Guns: The Tornados have just four seniors, only one of which is listed in the probable starting line-up, Amanda Whitaker, for tonight s game with the Saints of North Georgia. Flip from Down Town: Holli Flippo is returning to the floor after shooting 39.2% from three-point land. Flippo was 49-125 from the arc last season and had a better three-point shooting percentage then her shooting percentage overall on the season. Defensive standouts: Brevard ranked third in the conference in steals averaging 9.41 per game in the 2009-10 season. Amanda Whitaker led the team in steals and blocks with 51 and 27 in 28 games last season. Charity Stripe: The Tornados shot very well from the free throw line last season by shooting 72.7% from the charity stripe during the 2009-10 season. Sinking Treys: Flippo isn t the only Tornado that was able to find the bottom of the net from the three-point line. Brianna Worley was able to hit 37.9% of her three-point shots going 33-87 from behind the arc. Alyssa Cutshaw and Amber Roberts also showed their skill from behind the line. Cutshaw shot 41.7% while Roberts hit 36.4% of her three-point shots. Taking Care of the Ball: Anna Schlobohm ranked sixth in the SAC with a 1.07 assist/turnover ratio. Program Milestone: The Tornados made the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament last season marking the first time that Brevard College has made the post-season tournament in their short time in NCAA Division II Team Statistics TEAM STATISTICS BCW OPP SCORING 124 141 Points per game 62.0 70.5 Scoring margin -8.5 - FIELD GOALS-ATT 47-109 49-124 Field goal pct.431.395 3 POINT FG-ATT 14-43 15-44 3-point FG pct.326.341 3-pt FG made per game 7.0 7.5 FREE THROWS-ATT 16-30 28-41 Free throw pct.533.683 REBOUNDS 60 90 Rebounds per game 30.0 45.0 Rebounding margin -15.0 - ASSISTS 29 24 Assists per game 14.5 12.0 TURNOVERS 42 45 Turnovers per game 21.0 22.5 Turnover margin +1.5 - Assist/turnover ratio 0.7 0.5 STEALS 21 18 Steals per game 10.5 9.0 BLOCKS 3 5 Blocks per game 1.5 2.5 WINNING STREAK 0 - Home win streak 0 - ATTENDANCE 0 251 Home games-avg/game 0-0 1-118 Neutral site-avg/game - 1-133 SCORE BY PERIODS: 1st 2nd OT Total Brevard 54 70-124 Opponents 71 70-141 There s some history there: Brevard College Head Coach Shannon Reid and her assistant coach Terrence Baxter each played for Pfeiffer University in their
