Tim Hortons is thrilled to once again be part of the Roar of the Rings! We recognize that a tremendous amount of work has gone into the planning of this event and it simply could not be done without the support of many volunteers. It has been said that volunteers are unsung heroes, so we want to be sure to let you know how grateful we are for your efforts. You are the people behind the scenes, driving vans, cleaning ice, greeting people at the gates and doing whatever needs to be done, even or especially when it s not glamorous or popular. We know that you will provide energy and heart in everything you do and every role you take on. For that, we can t thank you enough. Thank you very much for your loyalty and support of the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings. Best regards, Your friends at

A loud and enthusiastic crowd of sports fans filled Winnipeg s MTS Centre on Sunday, April 28 even though the Winnipeg Jets had already been eliminated as a Stanley Cup hopeful. Instead of Jets fans, the arena saw nearly 800 dedicated curling volunteers pass through its doors throughout the day-long event. With amateur curling leagues finished for the season and Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings marked on our calendars for half a year from now, our volunteers were anxious to get started! After getting photos snapped for accreditation, volunteers moved to the next station to get sized for uniforms. This year, our volunteers will be standing out in sharp-looking red and black polo shirts and windbreakers emblazoned with the 2013 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings 2013 logo. With the nitty-gritty details out of the way, volunteers were encouraged to meet with their committee directors, mingle over coffee and snacks provided by Tim Hortons and get autographs from local curling stars. Members of the Jennifer Jones, Jeff Stoughton, Chelsea Carey and Mike McEwen teams stopped in throughout the day to express their thanks to the volunteers. It s great meeting the people who are volunteering, said Kristin Foster from Team Carey. They re the ones who are going to get us a sold-out house. So we re happy to be here and tell volunteers what a great job they ve done. Lindsay Titheridge, also from Team Carey, added, I love that some people don t know curling that well, but they ve come out just because they like getting involved. It s that commitment to volunteering that makes these events so special. Karen Fallis and Jill Proctor, former competitive curlers who volunteered at the rally, said socializing is as much a part of a curling tournament as the game. Curling is a small world, Jill said. And everyone in it is friendly and having fun. If the atmosphere at a pre-event volunteer rally is any indication, the live experience of attending Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings is going to be incredible. Encourage your friends and families to get their ticket packages now so they can see the best the world of curling has to offer. Team Carey and Team Jones will be competing against Rachel Homan (Ontario), Sherry Middaugh (Ontario), Stefanie Lawton (Saskatchewan), and Heather Nedohin (Alberta). Meanwhile, our Manitoba men s teams will compete against John Epping (Ontario), Kevin Koe (Alberta), Glenn Howard (Ontario) and Kevin Martin (Alberta).
