SPRING 2013 The official newsletter of the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo s Cowboy Golf Classic Raises $30,000 for JCCF The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo s Fall Fest Committee held the Annual Cowboy Golf Classic on February 21, 2013 at the Republic Golf Club. day of golf and fun that culminated with a deli- great donated items! fantastic participation of players and sponsors. Because of their hard work and effort, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo was able to donate $30,000 to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund making the total contributions nearly $350,000! In addition, they donated $25,000 to the ProRodeo Hall of Fame. A special thank you goes out to the presenting sponsor, Crown Royal, and All Health Seekers for their continued support of the tournament. NEWS AND NOTES Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation donated $2333 to JCCF resulting in funds raised at the 2013 Bud Light Cowboy Downhill on January 21, 2013. In addition, Steamboat Motors donated $1000 to the JCCF as a part of the Bud Light Cowboy Downhill in Steamboat Springs, CO in January. Plans are already under way for the 40th Annual Cowboy Downhill in January of 2014, more details to come. A Cold, Wet Mike Cervi Jr. Memorial Raises $14,500 for JCCF clouds welcomed the ropers to Casa Grande, AZ on February 20th, and although the $14,500 in 2013 bringing total donations to $150,000! Grande. That was the beginning of a week-long Casa Grande Cowboy and Indian Days. The City of Casa Grande, under the enthusiastic guidance of City Manager Larry Rains, along with Dick Powell and the Pinal County Sheriff s Posse, saw the opportunity to bring a a crowd pleasing Ranch Rodeo. Driftwood Performance Horses, and a check for $11,259 each. Erich commented, it was a long, cold day, but it was really exciting. Clay Tryan had a $14,803 payday with his 2nd wallet. Other prizes included Justin Ostrich boots, Bio Vigor, custom breast collars, Renew preme professionalism and awesome payouts. Thanksgiving Rodeo School raises $8000 for JCCF! 2012 at Resistol Arena in Mesquite, Texas was a huge success. The school is a fund raiser for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund something that its founder and Wrangler National Finals Rodeo raised $8,000 in 2012 which makes the total donated to JCCF more than $84,000. Stace Smith. The school includes a two-night rodeo that was added two years ago and held again this year, so instructors onstrate riding techniques for students. Crown Royal Riders Support JCCF in San Antonio Crown Royal donated $2,500 to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund this March on behalf of the Crown Royal Riders, made up of bareback rider Tilden Hooper and bull riders Wesley Silcox, Cody Whit- a Crown Royal Rider at certain rodeos. The partnership between JCCF and Crown Royal will continue with more rodeos this spring and summer. Injured Bronc Rider Recieves a Special Gift By Debbie Kelley/Pro Rodeo Sports News The 28-year-old from South Dakota got another reminder of that recently, when an unexpected gift came his way. Bull Rider Tyler Smith Gives Back, Issues Challenge One day Tyler Smith, a professional bull rider in the PRCA, and his girlfriend were sitting on the couch when out of nowhere Tyler said, There aren t many cowboys listed here as donors. Not knowing what he was talking about his girlfriend questioned him. which recognized donors who contributed to The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund. They were both amazed as to why there were so few cowboys and cow- the fund, that donate to the fund. Between the two the competitor that he is, Tyler has decided to turn this into a challenge.
