For a short distance in the early part of the straight, when attempting to shift to the outside of Sepoy Acheva, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of that runner due to both runners shifting ground marginally. My Kind was bumped on jumping and laid out under pressure over the final 200m. Celebris was hampered on jumping. A post race veterinary examination revealed Celebris to have been galloped on on the off hind fetlock. Arazona a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 2 #Theraces Handicap 1550m Tumultuous as a result of the track downgrade to a Heavy (8), the Stewards acceded to a request by stable representative C Duckworth for the late withdrawal of Tumultuous at 6.34pm. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Tumultuous be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 6.34pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket. 1 st Marquee 27 cents win, 23 cents place 2 nd Never Back Down 24 cents place Marquee shortly after the start, was bumped on the shoulder by Never Back Down and as a result, became briefly unbalanced. Marquee raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages. Satirical Magic raced keenly in the early stages and after passing the 1300m, had to be eased away from the heels of Pyramid Prince (App A Adkins) which shifted in when not clear. App Adkins was advised to exercise more care. Never Back Down when questioned regarding his riding in the early stages, and the reasons after beginning well he elected to take hold of his mount and obtain a position with cover behind the
eventual winner Marquee, A Hyeronimus stated he was under no specific instructions on how to ride Never Back Down tonight. He said that three starts ago at Wyong, on 7 December 2016, when he rode the horse, Never Back Down was successful after being positioned behind the leader with cover. He said that bearing that in mind, he envisaged riding the horse in a similar manner tonight. He said that after Never Back Down began awkwardly, he rode his mount along in the early stages, however when he felt runners to his outside were improving and when he felt the pace in the early stages was genuine, rather than ride his mount along to maintain its position in the lead, he elected to restrain Never Back Down approaching the first turn near the 1300m and raced in a position behind the leader, Marquee. The explanation offered regarding his riding in the early stages was noted. Cotrainer Mr G Lee confirmed that no specific instructions were issued to A Hyeronimus on how to ride Never Back Down and he further stated that the horse has never been successful when ridden in the lead. RACE 3 Tab.com.au Handicap 1200m Missile Coda after being loaded into the barriers, became fractious, reared and then slipped behind and as a consequence became cast for some time. Acting on veterinary advice, Missile Coda was a late withdrawal at 7.18pm. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Missile Coda be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 7.18pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket. 1 st Argent D Or 24 cents win, 23 cents place 2 nd Show Em 22 cents place Co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden was advised that prior to Missile Coda racing again would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards. California Elite which was standing in the adjoining stall to Missile Coda when that runner became fractious, was examined behind the barriers by the Club's veterinary officer and was passed fit to start. California Elite was bumped on jumping by Show Em. California Elite laid out under pressure in the early part of the straight. Treviso when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, App N Heywood stated he rode his mount along in the early stages to lead, however when both California Elite and Ozark held their positions to his inside, he was obliged to race three wide without cover throughout the event. He further added that in his opinion, Treviso did not handle tonight s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr A Denham advised that he will report to the Stewards in the days subsequent regarding the condition of Treviso and the Stewards will then be in a position to make a decision with regards to the horse s immediate racing future. Argent D'Or near the 300m, had to be steadied when disappointed for a run to the outside of California Elite when that runner shifted ground. Argent D'Or was then shifted back to the inside of runners and obtained clear running passing the 200m. Show 'Em was laying out in the early part of the straight. Revolver a post race veterinary examination revealed Revolver to be mildly lame in the off fore leg. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the horse racing again. Aquatic a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 4 Schweppes Handicap 1550m Nahema raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Awoke B Avdulla reported that the filly made an abnormal respiratory noise during the race and he had some concerns with the way the horse weakened in the run home. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination would be required prior to the filly being permitted to race again. Mr Duckworth advised that Awoke would now be spelled.
Philosophy was crowded on jumping. When questioned regarding the performance, H Bowman stated he anticipated being in a forward position, however after being briefly crowded in the start and the solid early tempo of the race, he was unable to do so and as a result, settled further back than what he intended. He further added that in his opinion, Philosophy did not handle tonight's heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 5 TAB Handicap 1250m Gretna was slow to begin. Submissive was slow to begin. Aaralyn was slow to begin. Passing the 150m, Aaralyn had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Tennessee Hussy (J Collett) which shifted out when not clear. J Collett was advised to exercise more care. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Tennessee Hussy was inclined to lay out under pressure over the final 150m and shift ground. Madame Lily inside the 100m, had to be steadied away from the heels of Tennessee Hussy (J Collett) when that runner laid out when under pressure. J Collett was reprimanded. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 6 Tooheys New Evening Star Cup 1900m Olympic Academy rounding the home turn was steadied away from the heels of Citations (App J Innes Jr) which shifted out when not clear. App Innes was advised to exercise more care. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, App R King stated that she was instructed to have the horse ridden with cover and she was specifically told to have the horse not exposed too early. She said that she was able to obtain a favourable position with cover behind the leader throughout the run where her mount travelled well. She said that approaching the 800m, when taken wider into a position without cover when Citations shifted out, she was obliged to take hold of her mount and shift back in where she was able to reassume her position following Last Wish. She said that bearing in mind her instructions, although after the 600m when King's Officer improved to her outside, she was reluctant to shift out and improve her run as she felt this would have been exposing her horse sooner than what connections would have liked. She added that Olympic Academy failed to respond to her riding in the straight and was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative Mr C Swan undertook to report back on the progress of the gelding in the days subsequent to the race. Cauthen's Power rider H Bowman reported that when caught wide in the early stages, and when the tempo of the race was very slow, he elected to stride forward and ultimately assume the lead approaching the 1200m. King s Officer when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, App B McDougall stated that when caught three wide in the early stages, he restrained his mount and endeavoured to obtain a position closer to the rail and as a result, settled further back than what he had intended. He added that he commenced his run to improve into the race near the 600m, however King s Officer was disappointing in the manner in which it finished the race off and in his opinion, did not handle tonight s track conditions. Trainer T Robinson stated that whilst it did not appear that King's Officer appreciated this evening's track conditions, nonetheless this was only a minor consideration as the horse has performed well on rain affected tracks. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Robinson was asked to report back on the progress of the horse. RACE 7 Robrick Lodge Handicap 1200m Achi Baba change of tactics to be ridden quieter with cover; settled worse than midfield. Achi Baba, passing the 500m, dipped in the going. Crafty Cop - change of tactics to be ridden further forward; led.
Radical Impact was slow to begin. Lay Down The Law was crowded on jumping. Lay Down The Law was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Yulong Ambition was slow to begin. A poor post race recovery revealed Yulong Ambition to have lost its off fore plate. Supply And Demand raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Hit The Mark a post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery. Trainer Mr J Austin was advised a veterinary clearance was required prior to Hit The Mark racing again. Mr Austin advised Hit The Mark would now be spelled. RACE 8 Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1250m Proane proceeding to the barriers, was unable to be restrained by its rider and travelled a considerable distance at a slow tempo before being eased down on the home turn. Proane was examined behind the barriers by the Club's veterinary officer and passed fit to start. When questioned, T Berry stated that Proane only began fairly and although he envisaged being in a midfield position, he did not want to ride his mount along in the early stages as he was concerned it may overrace. As a result, Proane settled further back than what he had anticipated. He said that after the 600m, he was able to obtain a position behind Star Shaft. He felt that horse would take him into the race. He said that he did not consider improving around the field as he felt he would have had to make his run too wide on the track. He added that he was briefly held up rounding the home turn and anticipated improving between Regatta Rebel and Budderoo Knight, however when Regatta Rebel shifted out and he was disappointed for this run, he had to shift his mount back to the inside to obtain clear running where his mount ran on well. Bells Of War began awkwardly. Star Shaft was slow to begin. Hesco Gold was checked on jumping. Final Trick began awkwardly. Chappy near the 250m had to be steadied away from the heels of Bells Of War (C Brown) which shifted out. C Brown was reprimanded. Budderoo Knight near the 250m was steadied when crowded for room between Hesco Gold and Regatta Rebel, which shifted out abruptly after being contacted by Star Shaft. Regatta Rebel a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. GENERAL: Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Sepoy Acheva, Joy Forever, Arazona, La Chatte. Race 2: Bayview Emperor, Never Back Down. Race 3: Treviso, Ozark, Missile Coda, Show Em. Race 4: Funloving, Damedge, Montignac. Race 5: Gretna (2), Tennessee Hussy, Motivate. Race 6: Last Wish, Lord De Air, Citations. Race 7: Hit The Mark, Supply And Demand, Zoutenant, Lay Down The Law. Race 8: Budderoo Knight, Hesco Gold (2).
