Russell Westbrook scored 26 is 38 points before halftime, in addition to racking up six assists, three rebounds and three steals. Serge Ibaka blocked four shots on the night and became the third-youngest player to register 1,000 blocks in his career. Westbrook s 38 points were the second most for a player on opening night in the Thunder era, and his 26 points were the most he has scored in one half since December of 2012. Lance Thomas provided a spark for the Thunder as he started the game 5-for-5 from the floor, scoring 14 total points on the night.

OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER NOTES.... Opening Back-To-Back: The Thunder will take the court in Los Angeles this evening, just 24 hours after dropping their season opening contest against the Trail Blazers in Portland. Although the Thunder led after three quarters of play, the Blazers outscored OKC 31-12 in the fourth quarter to secure the opening night victory. In the loss, Russell Westbrook registered a game-high 38 points (second most opening night points for a Thunder player in the Oklahoma City era) and Serge Ibaka recorded his 1,000 th career blocked shot (Ibaka became the third youngest player in NBA history behind Dwight Howard and Josh Smith to register 1,000 career blocks). The Thunder and Clippers are set to square-off this evening for the first time since Oklahoma City defeated Los Angeles (4-2) in the 2014 Western Conference Semifinals. Sustaining Success: The Thunder enters the 2014-15 season one year removed from a 59 win season and a spot in the Western Conference Finals for a third time in four years. This coming season, Oklahoma City will be in search of a fifth straight Northwest Division title. During the past 25 years, only the Los Angeles Lakers (2007-08 through 2011-12) and the Boston Celtics (2007-08 through 2011-12) managed to win their respective division for five straight seasons. Dating back to the start of the 2010-11 season, the Thunder has posted a winning percentage of.708, which trails only the Miami Heat (.718) and San Antonio Spurs (.740). Playoff Tested: During the 2014-15 season, the Thunder will look to reach the postseason for a sixth consecutive year. In each of the last four seasons, Oklahoma City has advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals and in three of the last four years, the Thunder has advanced to the Western Conference Finals. After defeating Memphis in the first round of the 2014 playoffs, the Thunder became the only Western Conference team to advance out of the first round in each of the last four seasons (Miami also accomplished the feat in the Eastern Conference). The trio of Durant, Ibaka and Westbrook have already played in 61 postseason games together. This total represents the most playoff appearances in NBA history for a set of three teammates at age 25 or younger. What a first week: The first week of the Thunder s 2014-15 season will not be an easy one. After opening in Portland on Oct. 29, the Thunder traveled to Los Angeles to take-on the Clippers just 24 hours later. Two days later, the Thunder opens the regular season at home on Nov. 1 vs. Denver before heading east to take on Brooklyn 48 hours later. As if that wasn t enough, OKC plays the Raptors in Toronto the following night. The Trail Blazers, Clippers and Nets will all be playing their home openers against Oklahoma City. One week, two back-to-backs and 6,300 miles traveled. It should make for a unique start to the season. The Draft Matters: The Thunder organization has always placed a great importance on the NBA Draft. Last season, the Thunder was the only team in the league to start five players all drafted by the franchise. Players drafted by the Thunder logged a total of 12,792 minutes last season, which led the NBA in this respect. Sustaining Success: After the 2007-08 season in which Oklahoma City won 20 games after a 3-29 start, the Thunder has found ways to improve the club in each subsequent season. With a 60-22 record during the 2012-13 season, Oklahoma City became just the second team in NBA history (Boston Celtics; 1955-1960) to increase its winning percentage for five consecutive seasons (while maintaining a winning percentage of.700 or better in two of those seasons). The chart to the right illustrates the development of the Thunder program through the years. Oklahoma City and San Antonio are the only two NBA teams with a winning percentage of.610 (equivalent to 50 wins) in each of the last five seasons. Season Winning % Playoff Finish 2013-14.720(59-23) Advanced to Conference Finals 2012-13.732(60-22) Advanced to Conference Semifinals 2011-12.712(47-19) Advanced to NBA Finals 2010-11.671(55-27) Advanced to Conference Finals 2009-10.610(50-32) Lost in first round 2008-09.280(23-59) Missed the playoffs Home Cooking: Since arriving in Oklahoma City during 2008, the Thunder has always taken pride in defending its home court. This past season, OKC began a perfect 13-0 at Chesapeake Energy Arena (best home start for the Thunder in the Oklahoma City era) before falling to the Raptors on Dec. 22. The OKC franchise matched its best all-time home start (team also went 13-0 top open the 1976-77 season). The Thunder s 13 game home winning streak represented the second longest streak in the Oklahoma City era (won 14 games from 1/6/12 3/7/12). Oklahoma City finished the 2013-14 season with a home record of 34-7 (second best in the NBA) as the Thunder won its final six home games of the regular season. Getting Defensive: As one might expect, team defense is always critical to overall team success. During the 2013-14 season, OKC limited its opponents to the third worst field goal shooting percentage in the NBA (43.6%). The Thunder finished the year going 18-2 when holding the opposition to sub 40.0% field goal shooting. Dating back to the start of the 2012-13 season, the Thunder is 69-5 when holding their opponent to 42.0% or less field goal shooting. Results with Russell: Despite missing 36 games during the 2013-14 season recovering from a knee injury, Russell Westbrook continued his maturation as a player and the stats were quick to back it up. In his final 19 games of last season, Westbrook averaged 23.3 points on 47.0% shooting to go along with 7.2 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals. On Mar. 4 versus Philadelphia, Westbrook recorded his eighth career triple-double in just 20+ minutes of action to become the second fastest player to register a triple-double (Jim Tucker recorded a triple-double in 17 minutes of action on 2/20/55 as a member of the Syracuse Nationals). During the 2013-14 season, Westbrook was one of ONLY TWO PLAYERS (LeBron James) in the NBA to average 21+ points, 6+ assists and 5+ rebounds (min. 40 games). Additionally, Westbrook only improved his level of play during the 2014 playoffs. In 19 postseason games, Westbrook averaged 26+ points, 8+ assists and 7+ rebounds. In the last 50 years, only one other player (Oscar Robertson in 1963 & 1964) managed to hit those benchmarks during the playoffs (min. 10 games played) MVP: Kevin Durant s 2013-14 season has already gone down as one of the best individual seasons in recent memory. Durant (32.0 points per game) recorded his fourth NBA Scoring Title in the last five seasons and it doing so, he registered the highest point per game average in the NBA since Kobe Bryant averaged 35.4 ppg during the 2005-06 season. By averaging 32+ points, 7+ rebounds and 5+ assists, Durant joined a select group of NBA Greats to post such numbers. Players to average 32+ pts, 7+ rebs and 5+ assts (last 45 years) Kevin Durant 2013-14 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 1971-72 Bob McAdoo 1974-75 Michael Jordan 1988-89 Bouncing Back: In what has become a staple for the Thunder during the past few seasons, Oklahoma City has proven to be incredibly resilient in those games played after a loss. Dating back to the start of the 2011-12 season, OKC has posted a 47-15 record in bounce-back games (second best record in the NBA; San Antonio).

Ibaka Still Surging: During the 2013-14 season, Serge Ibaka once again displayed signs of continued development. On the season, Ibaka recorded 29 double-doubles (after posting 15 double-doubles during the 2012-13 season) while averaging career-highs in scoring (15.1 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). To highlight Ibaka s consistency, the sixth year forward strung together 17 games in which he scored in double-figures (a career-long streak). Ibaka finished the season with a total of 219 blocks to become just the second player in NBA history (Dikembe Mutombo) to lead the NBA in total blocked shots for four consecutive seasons. Meanwhile, Ibaka s 2.70 blocks per game, ranked second in the NBA. Boards are the Barometer: As one might expect, Oklahoma City has traditionally found its greatest success when outrebounding the opposition. Last season OKC went 44-8 when outrebounding the opposition (including 17-2 when outrebounding the opponent by 10 or more). OKC finished the year ranking seventh in the NBA in rebounding (44.7 rebounds per game), despite not having a player on the roster rank among the NBA s top-20 rebounders. On Jan. 31 2014, the Thunder limited the Brooklyn Nets to an all-time NBA low of just 17 rebounds. Just Another Back-2-Back: Heading into the 2014-15 season, the Thunder is set to compete in a total of 18 back-to-backs (two of which will be played during the opening week of the season). Last year, the Thunder played in 15 sets of back-to-backs. After defeating the Kings and Clippers on consecutive nights during the second week of April, the Thunder claimed seven sweeps of a back-to-backs during the 2013-14 season. On the year, OKC went 12-3 on the first night and 8-7 on the second night of its back-to-back pairings. Making them Look Free: In what has become a staple for the Thunder program, OKC was once again very productive at the free throw line last season. Oklahoma City finishing the season ranked second in the NBA in free throw shooting accuracy (80.6%), and in doing so the Thunder became the first team in NBA history to shoot 80.0% or better from the line in five consecutive season (STATS Inc.). During the 2012-13 season, the Thunder not only led the NBA in free throw shooting, but OKC actually finished the year as the third best free throw shooting team in NBA history (82.8%). As a point of reference, the best all-time free throw shooting percentage for an entire season in NBA history is 83.2% (Boston Celtics; 1989-90). During the 2009-10 season Durant recorded 756 free throw makes, an all-time OKC Thunder franchise record and the 6 th most in NBA history for a single season. Durant s 756 free throws made were the most for a single-season since Michael Jordan recorded 833 free throw makes during the 1986-87 season. KD became the ONLY player in NBA history to convert 700+ free throws while shooting 90.0% or better. Road Warriors: The Thunder concluded its 2013-14 road schedule by going 25-16 away from Chesapeake Energy Arena. During the season, the Thunder strung together a 6-game and an 8-game road win streak (the eight straight road wins were the most in the Oklahoma City era). In fact, it had been over a decade since the OKC franchise last won eight consecutive road games (last won eight straight road games from 1/24/02 2/27/02). Despite losing to the Pacers on Apr. 14, the Thunder went 12-3 on the road this season against Eastern Conference opponents. The Thunder s.610 road winning percentage was the second best in the NBA this past season (San Antonio). Team Basketball: On 22 occasions last season (Most recently: Apr. 8 at SAC), the Thunder prevailed during a game in which five players scored in double figures. During the year, the Thunder went 22-4 when five players score 10+ points. Over the last two seasons OKC has registered a mark of 50-7 when five players score in double figures. Scoring Leader: With 2,593 points scored during the 2013-14 regular season, Kevin Durant led the NBA in scoring for a fourth time in the last five seasons. Durant is now one of just five players in NBA history to win four or more scoring titles. During the 2009-10 season, Durant became the youngest scoring champ in NBA history (21 years & 197 days). Most Career Scoring Titles (based on ppg) Michael Jordan 10 Wilt Chamberlain 7 George Gervin 4 Allen Iverson 4 Kevin Durant 4 250 for Brooks: After defeating the Atlanta Hawks earlier this season on Dec. 10, Thunder Head Coach, Scott Brooks claimed his 250 th career victory in his 401 st game. After registering sellouts during all 41 home games this past season, the Thunder enters the 2014-15 season having recorded sellouts in 130 consecutive regular season home outings and 165 games overall when including the postseason. Fans in attendance this season will continue to enjoy the improvements made to Chesapeake Energy Arena as part of a taxpayer funded initiative passed in March 2008. Thanks to the publically funded initiative, the team s arena boasts a state-of-the art scoreboard, new terrace suites, an updated main concourse with new concession stands, a new Sunset Lounge on the Club Level and a first-class courtside club.

Block Party: As has become the norm in recent seasons, the Thunder once again finished the 2013-14 season among the top shot-blocking teams in the NBA (OKC ranked second in the NBA with 6.11 bpg). For a fourth straight season, Serge Ibaka led the NBA in total blocks (219) to become the second player in NBA history to record such a feat {Dikembe Mutombo (1994-98)}. Prior to this past year, OKC led the NBA in blocks in each of the two previous seasons. During the 2011-12 season, the Thunder not only led the NBA in blocked shots (8.17 bpg), but Oklahoma City recorded the highest block per game total in the NBA in nearly 20 years. The 1993-94 Denver Nuggets team (8.37 bpg) was the last group to average more blocks than the 11-12 OKC team. During 2011-12, Ibaka led the NBA while setting an all-time franchise record with a 3.65 block per game average (most blocks per game since Theo Ratliff recorded 3.74 bpg during the 2000-01 season).
