WELCOME again to the new 4-H club year for Washington County 4-H! The year will be filled with many exciting 4-H activities and events. Now is the time to join Washington County 4-H! So if you or a friend still need to fill out your enrollment form, we have included one in this newsletter. Although the official deadline to join for 2018-2019 isn t until December 22nd, the sooner you join, the more you can do! Don t miss out on these fun adventures to learn about many different subjects. Always remember you can call 336-7741 if you have any questions. You must return your enrollment form to receive notices regarding club meetings NEW AGENT COMING SOON! We want to update you on our 4-H Agent hiring process. The University of Kentucky accepted applications through August 15 th. The University will be reviewing these soon. Hopefully we will have someone in place by late fall. In the meantime, enrollment will go forward as usual and all projects clubs will be accepting new members through the end of November. We have wonderful volunteer leaders who are ready to help you and answer any questions you may have regarding specific clubs. Please browse through the brochure,fill out the enrollment form provided and return it to your teacher or the Extension Office. We will put your name on the mailing list for the clubs you have selected. Project clubs available are: 4-H Hooves and Horns/Country Ham Club Livestock and Country Ham Curing 4-H Young Riders Horse 4-H Sharpshooters - Shooting Sports 4-H Best Sew ers in Town Clothing project and Fashion Revue 4-H Spurs and Furs Poultry and Rabbit Please call us with any questions or concerns. We hope that you choose to participate in the upcoming year and help us welcome our new 4-H Agent!
4-H SHARPSHOOTERS CLUB Want to learn about firearm safety, wildlife and how to shoot a 22 rifle, archery or trap? Then join the Washington County 4-H Sharpshooters! There will be an orientation for new members and parents in November. The date will be announced later. The meetings will be held at the Washington County Extension Office. You must begin attending club meetings in November in order to compete in the various events next summer. A parent must attend meetings with you too. The membership fee is $25 if you complete the fund raisers. Hope to see you there! 4-H HOOVES AND HORNS 4-H YOUNG RIDERS CLUB Horses, horses, horses! If you love horses, this club is for you! You do not have to own a horse to participate in this club. There are plenty of horseless projects as well as activities with horses. The next meeting for club members will be September 17th,at 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. All regular meetings are on the third Monday of each month. The membership fee is $7. The awards night will be held on Monday, October 22nd, also at the Extension Office. All families who attend are asked to bring 2 dishes for the potluck. The final deadline to join the club is November 19th which is the November meeting. 4-H SPURS & FURS CLUB If your favorite animal includes either beef cattle, dairy cattle, hogs, goats or sheep, then you will want to join the Washington County 4-H Hooves and Horns Club. Learn about feeding, giving shots, judging, grooming and showing, to name a few topics. Country Ham members also are required to join the club. The first meeting for new members will be announced at a later date. Membership fee is $7.00 Rabbits and poultry rule the roost in this outstanding club. Membership in this club caters to 4-Her s that love to raise rabbits and poultry. The next meeting for the Spurs and Furs Club is September 18th, 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. The club meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. The membership fee is $7.00. 4-H COUNTRY HAM PROJECT/ What is the difference between city ham and country ham? How does a ham become a country ham? Learn these facts and more while curing a country ham in 4-H! This project requires a 4-H er to be a member of the Hooves and Horns 4-H Club and earn six educational hours during the club year. The registration fee for the Country Ham project will be approximately $60 (price subject to change) for the two hams a member will cure. The 4- Her must also give a speech at the KY State Fair while the hams are being judged. Applications for the Country Ham Project will be available sometime in November. Feel free to invite your friends who may have an interest in any of these clubs.
