Golf Notes: After a 7 month process, the search committee has recommended, and the Board approved, Seth Kanaskie as our new Golf Professional to take the reins from retiring Fred Pacacha. Fred has been with us for 25 years and we wish him the very best in his retirement. On Friday September 4th, all members and employees are invited to celebrate with Fred and his family at a complimentary clubhouse reception from 4-6. Seth comes to us from the Chevy Chase Club where he has been the first assistant professional. He is originally from Danville and graduated from the Professional Golf Management program at Penn State. His wife Crystal is also from our area. Seth and Crystal will be introduced at the awards banquet on September 6th. Seth will officially start in April when the Pro Shop opens for 2010. Ryder Cup/Solheim Cup weekend is soon upon us and I hope the emotion is as high as this past weekend when the Americans came from behind to defeat the Europeans. I am sure the captains of the Eagles and Hawks will fire up their teams just as much. Rumor has it that a sign was posted over the weekend about the evolution of birds, but I cannot confirm it. Please remember the awards banquet. This is always a special night with a special menu and entertainment beyond just the awards. I am pleased to report that the Friday Stag Day was a success and, although starting a little wet, the weather did cooperate with a beautiful ending. The Club Championship started this past weekend and I was disappointed with the number of golfers signing up (32). True, this is a tournament to crown the Club Champion, but there are multiple flights based on handicap index and everyone has a chance to be a Club Champion in their flight. The 2009 Club Champions are Schuyler Stitzer for the Men and Bonnie Bennett for the Women. This brings up the concern about decreasing rounds of golf this year. At the end of July, rounds were down by over 1000 from the previous year. Sure, the weather has not been conducive to golf and the economy has not either, but there seems to be less play than expected. Cart revenues are down and spending overall is down too. Now that the weather seems to be nicer, let s get out and PLAY! The course is in great shape for this late in the season. Remember to FIX YOUR DIVOTS AND BALL MARKS! I saw a lot of unfixed divots and ball marks this weekend. It is up to us as golfers and users to keep our course in great shape. The Handicap Committee has just received the new USGA handicap manuals and will be following the book. Remember to get your credits in the Pro Shop while Fred still has the inventory. He has said if he doesn t have what you want, he will try to get it. Jay Smith Golf Committee Chair 2
HANDICAP POLICY: Q: What if I belong to two or more clubs: should I have the same Handicap index? A: All scores must be posted at all golf clubs. If the clubs use the same computation service, a player may register with the service as a multi-member and post scores at the club where the player has played. The handicap computation service will combine all acceptable scores into one scoring record. A player belonging to more than one golf club could have a different handicap Index at each club due to different revision dates. When competing with players from more than one club, the player must use the lowest Handicap Index, unless otherwise designated by the committee in charge of the competition.
