The Bears will enter the contest attempting to get back in the win column following a loss at PAC-10 opponent Washington. Reggie Holmes led the Bears with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Kevin Thompson posted a gamehigh 12 rebounds. The Terrapins (11-2) are coming off their seventh straight win as a result of a 85-75 victory at home against Charlotte on Saturday night. Junior point guard Greivis Vasquez had 27 points and Landon Milbourne scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half to help improve to 9-0 at Comcast Center. The Terps hold a commanding 5-0 record against Morgan State since the 1988-89 season. The Departed The Bears had three key departures from last season s squad, and every one of them played a key role to the team s success over the last two years. Guard Jamar Smith was selected as the 2008 MEAC Player of the Year and center Boubacar Coly earned the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year honor, while point guard Jerrell Green led the squad in assists (3.6 apg) and quarterbacked the team. Those three guys contributed significantly to the foundation of our program, noted Todd Bozeman. Hopefully, we ll be able to look back and know they were the most important building blocks we had. MSU s Last Game -- MSU 67, Washington 81 (12/30/08-Seattle, Wash.) SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) - Freshman guard Isaiah Thomas scored a career-high 27 points and Jon Brockman grabbed the 1,000th rebound of his career Tuesday night as Washington extended its winning streak to seven, beating Morgan State 81-67. Senior center Brockman, who sat out nearly 11 minutes of the second half after picking up his fourth foul with 16:55 left in the game, added 18 points for the Huskies (9-3). He finished the night with five rebounds, giving him 1,004. He is within 47 rebounds of the all-time Washington career record of 1,051 set by Doug Smart from 1957-59. Reggie Holmes led Morgan State (5-8) with 16 points. Jermaine Bolden had 15 points, and Marquise Kately chipped in 14. FLASHBACK - MSU at (Dec. 27, 2007) COLLEGE PARK, Md. Eric Hayes led five Terps in double-figure scoring as pulled away in the second half against Morgan State, 89-65, at the Comcast Center before 17,950 fans. The loss dropped the Bears record to 4-4 (1-0 MEAC) while improved to 6-3. Morgan State entered the contest shorthanded in the backcourt as a result of injuries, as starting point guard Jerrell Green (ankle sprain) and Jermaine Bolden (shoulder) watched the game from the Bears bench. As a result, junior forward Marquise Kately took over the point guard position. Kately played the entire game and finished with just three turnovers, however his offensive production struggled as he completed the game shooting 2-for-15 from the field and scored a season-low with five points. Sophomore guard Reggie Holmes led the Bears with a game-high 20 points with six rebounds and three steals, while Jamar Smith added 16 points including seven boards and four assists. Boubacar Coly finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. employed tough full court pressure and got baskets by James Gist to help the Terps jump out to an early 8-0 lead. Gist finished the game with 18 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. The Bears seemed to gain confidence as the game continued and rallied. Smith scored the Bears first basket to help spark a 13-5 run over the next six minutes as the Bears took advantage of careless Terps turnovers and poor shooting. An Adrian Bowie turnover led to a powerful dunk by Smith over Greivis Vasquez to knot the ballgame at 13 with 10:11 remaining in the half. Morgan State would go on to take a 27-25 lead at the 3:39 mark after an alley-oop dunk by Smith to Kately, followed by a layup by Gene Johnson as Terps fans grew restless. fired back with an 11-4 run. In the final seconds of the half Vasquez drove the lane and had his shot blocked twice. head coach Gary Williams felt Vasquez was fouled on the play and threw his jacket to center court before storming off the court in disgust. The Terps bench was assessed a technical foul as they went into the locker room with a 36-29 halftime lead. The second half was dominated by the Terps who continued to put pressure on Morgan State s tiring squad. Who to Contact MSU Sports Information Office (443) 885-3831 Sports Info. Holmes Selected MEAC Player of the Week (Dec. 14, 2008) Junior guard Reggie Holmes of Morgan State University was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, for the week ending December 14, 2008. Haynes IV (Howard, 1992) Morgan State Selected MEAC Men s Basketball Preseason Favorite Bears picked to finish first for first time ever. Marquise Kately returns to lead Morgan State in 2008-09. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Morgan State, the recipient of 15 of the 21 first-place votes, was selected as the top preseason pick for the 2008-09 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men s Basketball season, as determined by votes of the league s head coaches and sports information directors at the MEAC Men s Basketball Press Luncheon held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Winston-Salem, N.C. Led by the league s Coach of the Year Todd Bozeman, Morgan State returns two starters and seven letterwinners from last year s 22-11 squad that won the MEAC regular season title and reached the NIT Tournament for the first time in school history. All-conference forward Marquise Kately and returning All-MEAC selection Reggie Holmes give the Bears a great deal of experience and talent coming into the season. Kately, who averaged 13.1 points per game and placed in the MEAC s top 10 in both rebounding (5.9) average and field goal (.495) percentage, was named to the 2008-09 Preseason All-MEAC First Team. Joining the 6-5 senior on the preseason squad is teammate Reggie Holmes, who was selected to the All-MEAC Second Team. The Hampton Pirates, who received two first-place votes, followed the Bears in the balloting, while Delaware State is third. Norfolk State, who received a first-place vote, enters the preseason ranked fourth, followed by South Carolina State at fifth. The MEAC Tournament Champs of Coppin State enter the preseason as the sixth-ranked team followed by Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T, Howard, Bethune-Cookman an d Eastern Shore. Senior All-MEAC guard and 2008 Tournament MVP Tywain McKee was selected as the MEAC Preseason Player of the Year.

2008-09 MEAC Men s Basketball Preseason Prediction as voted on by the league s head coaches and sports information directors (First Place Votes in parenthesis) 1. Morgan State (15) 2. Hampton (2) 3. Delaware State 4. Norfolk State (1) 5. South Carolina State (2) 6. Coppin State (1) 7. Florida A&M 8. North Carolina A&T (1) 9. Howard 10. Bethune-Cookman 11. E. Shore Hill Field House - New Floor For 2008-09 This is the 34th season of play in Hill Field House. The Bears will open the 2008-09 season on a brand new wood floor that was installed earlier in this fall. The floor was designed by the MSU Athletics Department and made by Dura-Glo Flooring based out of Westbury, New York. Bear Schedule Morgan State s non-conference schedule for the 2008-09 season will once again be very challenging. The schedule will include match-ups against LaSalle, Ole Miss, DePaul, Utah, Manhattan,, St. Mary s. The Bears took on UMBC in their home-opener at Hill Field House. Non-Conference Schedule Morgan State will play on the road for all but one of their non conference games. The 2008-09 season will start in Philadelphia with LaSalle (11/15) followed by a trip to Riverdale, NY to face Manhattan (11/19). The Glenn Wilkes Classic will be held in Daytona Beach, FL (11/21-23) and the Bears will play Marshall, Utah and Wisconsin-Green Bay. MSU will finish up the seven-game stretch of away games when they head down south to play Ole Miss (11/29). The Bears will return home to Baltimore for a game against the Red Flash of St. Francis (12/1), and trek to the windy city of Chicago for a match up against DePaul (12/10). MSU will travel to the west coast to compete in the St. Mary s Tournament in Moraga, CA (12/26-28), before making one last stop at the Univ. of Washington (12/30) before returning home to face (1/7) at College Park. On February 7th MSU will have their last non-conference game of the season when they head to the Tar Heel state to face Winston-Salem State. Home Sweet Home Bozeman finished the season with a career record of 98-64 in five seasons as a collegiate head coach. He is 38-35 in his third season as the Bears head coach, including a sensational 23-5 mark in home games. In fact for the first time in school history the Bears finished the last season unbeaten at home as they posted an impressive 12-0 mark at Hill Field House, and recently had their 15-straight home winning streak snapped by St. Francis-Pa. in a 65-61 loss on Dec. 1, 2008. Prior to the loss the Bears had not been defeated at home since a two-point loss to Hampton on Feb. 20, 2007. Trying To Get Another Winning MSU will attempt to do something it has not accomplished in over thirty years; they will try to record their first back-to-back winning season. The last time Morgan State finished with consecutive winning seasons was when they posted a 18-12 record in 1977-78, followed by a 15-12 record in 1978-79. If they are able to accomplish consecutive wins it will mark the first time in their Division I history. MSU s longest consecutive winning streak in school history is 9 seasons, dating from 1968-69 to 1978-79. Transfers Morgan State s 2008-09 roster is the definition of diversity, with all the transfers from JUCO programs. Coach Bozeman has searched out the talents of five transfers to add to the Bears roster. With two successful rebuilding seasons under his belt Coach Bozeman looks to these young men with great expectations. Buford Foote ( C/6-9/215) - Transfer from Pensacola CC who hails from Atlanta, GA... He joins the Bears as a junior John Long (F/6-5/210) - Comes to the Bears locally from Hagerstown CC... He joins the Bears as a junior Troy Smith (G/6-4/195) - Transferred from Northeast J.C. (Colorado)... He is also a junior. Joseph Morgan (G/6-6/195) - Transfer from L.A. Trade Tech... TODD BOZEMAN Head Coach 3rd Year 40-37 at MSU 103-72 Overall Record In just two seasons at the helm, Todd Bozeman has posted one of the most dramatic turnarounds in NCAA history by turning perennial doormat Morgan State into a Mid-major power. The Bears reached the No. 17 position in the College Insider Mid-major polls and was ranked as high as No. 7 in the Washington Post Atlantic 11 poll. After a 7-8 start, the Bears reeled off an incredible eight straight victories, equaling its longest winning streak since 1975, and closed out the regular season by winning 13 of their last 14 regular season games. The team also proved it could compete against some of the nation s best teams, as it suffered four-point losses at UConn and Miami, and were outlasted by Seton Hall by 8-points earlier during the season. Morgan State men s basketball coach Todd Bozeman was selected the 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. This is the first time since joining the MEAC that Bozeman has been named Coach of the Year by the league s coaches and sports information directors. The last Morgan State coach to win the award was head coach Nathaniel Frazier in 1977. The Bears finished with a 22-11 regular season record, posting the most Division I victories in school history and the best overall record in over 30 years. The team, a preseason pick to finish 4th in the league, won its first-ever MEAC regular season title and advanced to the league tournament championship for the first time since 1977. Morgan State had never won a regular season title at any level, and its only previous MEAC crown came in 1977 when it won the conference tournament en route to the Division II Final Four. Bozeman concluded the year by taking the Bears to their first Division I postseason appearance in history when they earned a postseason tournament appearance in the NIT. Bozeman finished the season with a career record of 98-64 in five seasons as a collegiate head coach. He is 35-29 in his two seasons as the Bears head coach, including a sensational 21-4 mark in home games. In fact for the first time in school history the Bears finished the season unbeaten at home as they posted an impressive 12-0 mark at Hill Field House. Morgan State featured one of the most dynamic rosters in the league. The Bears had the MEAC s top ranked point guard Jerrell Green in addition to one of the top 3-point sharp-shooters in the league with sophomore Reggie Holmes. The Bears did not have a single player selected to the Preseason All-MEAC team, but finished the season with the 2008 MEAC Player of the Year Jamar Smith, MEAC Defensive Player of the Year Boubacar Coly, and All-MEAC second team selection Marquise Kately. During the 2006-07 season Morgan State was predicted to finish 10th in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), however, Bozeman guided the Bears to a 13-18 overall record and finished tied for 3rd place in the conference in his first season at the helm. Bozeman led the Bears to the 2007 MEAC Semi-Finals and was one game away from the Championship. Bozeman, widely regarded as one of the bright young minds in basketball, began his coaching duties April 27, 2006 and became the 15th head coach in Morgan State history. Prior to joining the Morgan State Bears, Bozeman spent two seasons as a college basketball analyst and conducted camps and clinics in South America and Africa. Bozeman also spent three seasons in the NBA as the advance scout for the Toronto Raptors where he not only scouted upcoming opponents but also coordinated and oversaw the Summer Player development program. Prior to the Raptors, Bozeman spent a season scouting for the Vancouver Grizzlies, who are now the Memphis Grizzlies. Bozeman also spent time strengthening his ties with college coaches and familiarized himself with the top youth players as a coach at the AAU level. Bozeman took the college basketball world by storm after taking over the Cal program in mid-season 1993; he led the Golden Bears to an 11-2 finish and a surprise berth in the NCAA Tournament; including an upset of defending national champion Duke and a Sweet 16 berth to cap Cal s best NCAA Tournament run since 1960. As the head coach of the University of California-Berkeley, Bozeman led the Golden Bears to three NCAA Tournament bids in four years, and was the youngest coach to ever reach the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Within the Pac-10, Bozeman s Bears became the first school in conference history to win three straight games over UCLA in Pauley Pavilion, and was the first school to take back-to-back games over Arizona in McKale Center in more than a decade. In four seasons as a head coach, he led Cal to a 63-35 record (64.3 pct.) and guided the Golden Bears to three top 4 finishes in the Pac-10. Bozeman was instrumental in building Cal into one of the elite programs in NCAA basketball and nurtured the development of future NBA stars Jason Kidd, Lamond, Murray, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Sean Marks, Ed Gray, Tremaine Fowlkes, Michael Stewart and the college basketball career of the NFL s Tony Gonzales. Bozeman arrived at Cal in 1990 after spending two seasons as an assistant to Perry Clark at Tulane (1988-90). While a member of the Tulane staff, Bozeman played a major role in the rebuilding of the Green Wave basketball program. He also served as an assistant to Ernie Nestor at George Mason before taking the assistant job at Tulane. Bozeman began his coaching career upon graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. A strong recruiter, Bozeman s connections should continue to help bring better talent to Morgan State, which hasn t won a MEAC championship in 30 years. 1 MEAC Regular Championship (2008) 2 MEAC Championship Appearances (2007 & 2008) 3 Three NCAA Tournament Appearances 7 NBA Selections (Shaheer Abdur -Rahim, Jason Kidd, Sean Marks, Lamond Murray, Michael Stewart, Tremaine Fowlkes, Ed Gray) 12 Led MSU to 12-0 home record during the 2007-08 season...first undefeated home record in its Division I history 22 Number of wins recorded with the Bears during the 2007-08 season, most wins since the 1975-76 season Name: Todd Bozeman Born: December 5, 1963 in Washington, DC Wife: Telethea Son: Blake Daughter: Brianna Nephew: Okoye Education: B.A. in Communications, University of Rhode Island, 1986 Bozeman s Coaching 2006-Present College Head Basketball Coach Morgan State University 2001 NBDL Assistant Basketball Coach NBDL South American Team (NBA) 1998-2001 NBA Advance Scout Toronto Raptors 1997-98 NBA College Scout Vancouver Grizzlies 1992-96 College Head Basketball Coach University of California 1990-92 College Assistant Basketball Coach University of California 1988-90 College Assistant Basketball Coach Tulane University 1988 College Assistant Basketball Coach George Mason University 1986-87 H.S. La Salle s Rodney Green and Kimmani Barrett each scored 15 points to lead all scorers but it was sophomore Jerrell Williams who came up with a pair of offensive rebounds and follow-up buckets to help secure the win. La Salle led by as many as six points in the first half, but Morgan State took control of the boards and chipped the lead down to 25-24 at the half following a jumper by newcomer Troy Smith. Marquise Kately hit one-of-two free throws to help the Bears tie the score for the ninth time with four minutes and 23 seconds to play. Two Williams free throws on the following possession gave his team a 58-56 lead. Williams would then crash the boards for an offensive rebound and put-back off a missed three-pointer and follow a miss by Green at the 2:34 mark to build a 62-58 lead. He would then hit one of two free throws with 16 seconds to play to build a 63-58 advantage. He finished five for seven from the line. The Explorers went just one for four from the line in the final ten seconds to allow the Bears to remain in the game but Paul Johnson came up with a critical steal on the inbounds with 2.7 seconds left and a 63-61 lead. Barrett made one of two free throws to make the score 64-61 and Jermaine Bolden s last-second three point missed at the buzzer. Bolden led the Bears with 14 points and five assists, followed by Rogers Barnes with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. #Reggie Holmes# and Marquise Kately chipped in 10 points each. Morgan State shot 32.8 percent from the field and knocked down 11-of-18 three pointers (42.1%). The Explorers finished 21-of-44 from the field (47.7%) and shot 33.3 percent (4-12) from beyond the arc. BALTIMORE, Md. -- Reggie Holmes scored 13 points and Kevin Thompson added 12 points as the Morgan State Bears defeated the UMBC Retrievers 67-60 Monday night at Hill Field House. MSU has won 15 straight home-games as the Bears avenged a loss to UMBC last November at the RAC Arena. This was the Bears first home game following a road loss to LaSalle. The Bears went 12-0 last year at home, en route to their first MEAC regular season and have not been defeated at home since a twopoint loss to Hampton on Feb. 20, 2007. The Bears controlled the pace throughout most of the night and never trailed. UMBC s standout point guard Jay Greene finished with 11 points and eight rebounds and seven assists, but the Retrievers never got going offensively as a result of constant defensive pressure by the Bears. The Bears held UMBC to 37 percent (20-54 FG) shooting from the field and held a 42-35 advantage on the boards. Bolden did a solid job of managing the Bears offensive possessions, played tough defense and led the Bears with five assists to go along with eight points and two steals. Thompson, a 6-foot-8 redshirt freshman, scored 10 of his 12 points in the second and was a presence around the basket. Morgan State scored 40 of their points in the paint, compared to 20 by the Retrievers. The Bears also scored 17 points on second chance baskets and outscored UMBC s bench by a 20-11 margin. Morgan State (1-1) led 34-31 at the break and limited the Retrievers to just three field goals over a 10 minute span in the second half. Thompson hit a jumper to help give the Bears a 53-41 advantage with 7:53 remaining, and the Bears lead ballooned to as many as 16 points. The Retrievers (1-1) never came closer than seven for the rest of the game. RIVERDALE, N.Y. Antoine Pearson hit an offbalanced layup while falling down in the lane with 9.1 seconds to help Manhattan escape with a 61-60 victory against Morgan State on Wednesday night in the Jaspers home-opener and the first meeting between the two teams. Morgan State went ahead 60-58 in a back-andforth second half when Kevin Thompson scored with 49 seconds remaining. Andrew Gabriel hit a free throw with 21 seconds left to pull Manhattan within one before Pearson s decisive shot. Reggie Holmes 3-point attempt at the buzzer for Morgan State was blocked by Darryl Crawford. Holmes and Thompson scored 12 points each for Morgan State (1-2), which was outrebounded by the Jaspers 30-23 en route to their second loss of the season. The Bears held a 30-26 advantage at the intermission, but Manhattan began to slowly trim into the lead and with 4:37 left in the game Crawford nailed a 3-pointer to give the Jaspers a 54-51 edge. It marked the Jasper s first lead since the 15:58 mark of the first half. Marquise Kately led the Bears on the glass with 7 rebounds, including 9 points and a blocked shot. Jermaine Itchy Bolden finished with a game-high eight assists, but struggled by shooting just 1-for-6 from the floor for two points. Chris Smith scored 14 points, Crawford had 12 and Devon Austin 11 for the Jaspers (2-0). Manhattan shot 41.7 percent (20-48) from the field and was a dismal 2-for-13 (15.4%) from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Bears shot 41.2 percent (7-17) from three-point territory and went 22-for-56 from the field. Marshall (1-1) trailed by five points with 39 seconds left, but missed three free throws in the final minute. Kately scored 13 of his points in the first half to propel Morgan State (2-2) to a 37-30 halftime lead. Holmes took over in the second half, scoring 11 points. Rico Myles claimed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Bears. Markel Humphrey led the Thundering Herd with 17 points and nine rebounds. Teammate Shaquille Johnson added 13 points. Morgan State took the lead for good at 16-14 with 8:36 left in the first half. The Bears increased the margin to 17 points at 49-32 with 15:32 remaining and held on despite the Marshall rally. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Luke Nevill scored 16 points and blocked three shots to lead Utah to a 66-37 rout over Morgan State on Saturday in the Glenn Wilkes Classic. The 7-foot-2 center Nevill, who also grabbed six rebounds, played only 21 minutes for the Utes (3-1). Kim Tillie added 10 points for Utah, which has now won three in a row since a season-opening loss to Southwest Baptist. Kevin Thompson scored 14 points and eight rebounds for the Bears. Joseph Morgan and Jermaine Bolden chipped in 6 points each. Morgan State (2-3) shot 28.3 percent from the floor, including 0-of-10 from 3-point range. The Utes also held a 36-26 advantage on the boards. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. Morgan State (2-5) completed play in the 2008 Glenn Wilkes Classic with a 71-57 loss against 2008 Wisconsin Green-Bay (2-2) at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix forced the Bears into just 17 percent shooting in the second half and 30 percent for the game. It was a low scoring contest throughout the early going, as the teams were tied at 12 eight minutes into the contest. The Phoenix then extended the defensive pressure and built a 26-16 lead over the next four minutes. Terry Evans hammered home a two-handed slam and Bryquis Perine had a layup off back-to-back steals to cap the flurry. Morgan State made a charge in the latter stages of the first half and jumped on top for the first time in more than 10 minutes, with 48 seconds left prior to intermission. The Phoenix regained the lead heading into the locker room, however, as Chop Tang buried his second 3-pointer of the half from the right baseline with :26 remaining. Tang had 12 first-half points, while his counterpart in the interior, Randy Berry, totaled nine. In the second half, Morgan State missed 18 of its first 19 shots and Green Bay held the Bears scoreless for nearly seven minutes. That enabled the Phoenix to run off 13 straight points and expand its lead to 52-39. Morgan State shot just 6-of-35 in the second half and made 20-of 66-tries in the contest. Green Bay again was outstanding from the line, converting 28-of 30-opportunities. Marquise Kately led the Bears with 14 points and eight rebounds. Reggie Holmes added 11 points and Kevin Thompson and Troy Smith had six points each. Tang finished with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds, while Berry and Mike Schachtner finished with 15 apiece for the Phoenix. Attendance: 5824 BALTIMORE, Md. -- Reggie Holmes scored 19 points and Joseph Morgan chipped in 10 points as the Morgan State Bears were upended by the Red Flash of Saint Francis-Pa. 65-61 Monday night at Hill Field House. The Red Flash (2-4) handed Morgan State its fourth consecutive loss and also ended the Bears 15-game home winning streak. The Bears went (2-6) 12-0 last year at home, en route to their first MEAC regular season and have not been defeated at home since atwo-point loss to Hampton on Feb. 20, 2007. Morgan State looked disinterested and flat and the Red Flash capitalized by jumping out to an early lead. Devin Sweetney s layup gave the Red Flash an 12-2 advantage at the 15:46 mark of the first half. St. Francis ended up controlled the pace throughout most of the night and never trailed in the contest. Sweetney finished with a double-double by posting 19 points (7-13 FG) and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Marquis Ford added 16 points (6-8 FG) and Mislav Jukic had 11 points. The Bears trailed 30-23 at the intermission. The Bears shot 35 percent from the field and went 6-for-24 (.250) from beyond the arc, while the Red Flash shot a blistering 60.5 percent from the floor (23-38 FG) and held a 34-31 advantage on the glass. Kevin Thompson who entered the ball game as the Bears third leading scorer (9.4 ppg), was held scoreless and finished with five rebounds. St. Francis held their largest lead at 39-27 when Ford knocked down a jumper with 14:57 left in the game. Morgan State responded with a 14-4 run ignited primarily from the energetic play of the Bears bench. Marquise Kately fed Joseph Morgan an alley-oop dunk and Rogers Barnes hit the front end of a 1-and-1 to trim St. Francis lead to 43-39 with 10:08 remaining. Morgan State continued to stay close down the stretch and a 3-pointer by Holmes cut the lead to 61-59 with 29.9 seconds left. St. Francis then made 3-of-4 free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the win. Attendance: 2579 BALTIMORE -- Reggie Holmes scored 19 points and Morgan State snapped a four-game losing streak in a 62-48 victory over Coppin State in the conference opener for both teams on Saturday at Hill Field House. Holmes shot 6-for-16 from the field, knocked down 4-of-11 3-pointers and pulled down six rebounds to help the Bears defeat the Eagles for the third time in the last four meetings. Rogers Barnes had 12 points and Kevin Thompson collected his second double-double of the season by collecting 10 points and 10 rebounds for Morgan State (3-6, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), which trailed only twice in the game. Junior guard Joseph Morgan electrified the crowd with a dunk midway through the first half that helped ignite an 8-0 run. Morgan State led 28-19 at halftime. The Bears shot 41.1 percent from the field (23 of 56) and made 5 of their 20 shots from beyond the arc. Coppin State had a dreadful night and made just 17- of-57 shots (29.8 percent) and only 3-of-17 on 3-point attempts. Jordan Lee scored 13 points for the Eagles (1-5, 0-1), who have lost four straight games. Tywain McKee, who entered the game averaging 18.5 points per game, was held to 10 points (4-16 FG) and finished with four turnovers. Morgan State held a commanding 50-33 advantage on the boards and scored 20 points off of second chance opportunities. A 3-pointer by Holmes gave Morgan State its largest lead, 36-23, with 14:22 left in the game. Coppin State did not come within nine the rest of the way. The 48 points scored by the Eagles marked their second-lowest point total ever scored against Morgan State behind only the 44 they scored during the 1979-80 season.
