The Terriers have lost in the regionals in each of their last seven NCAA appearances. BU has never been to a Frozen Four, as the 1999 tournament was the first to be named the Frozen Four. This is the fourth time BU and UNH have met in the NCAA tournament. The Terriers won a 6-5 contest in the 1977 consolation game, but the Wildcats have won the last two NCAA meetings, which both took place in a regional final. Most recently, UNH blanked BU, 3-0, in the 2003 Northeast Regional final in Worcester. The Wildcats also posted a dramatic 4-3 overtime victory in 1998. The Terriers are just 1-4 all-time against fellow Hockey East schools in the NCAA tournament. The two teams have faced off at Verizon Wireless Arena once before, as UNH skated to a 4-3 victory on Nov. 5, 2004. BU is the last No. 1 or No. 2 seed left in this year s NCAA tournament. TERRIERS ROLL PAST BUCKEYES BU scored the first six goals of the game and got at least one point from 11 different players to secure an 8-3 victory over fourth-seeded Ohio State in the NCAA Northeast Regional semifinals on Saturday. Senior Jason Lawrence and junior Zach Cohen each scored twice, while senior Hobey Baker finalist Matt Gilroy tallied a career-high four assists. Sophomore Nick Bonino tallied a goal and two assists and seniors Brandon Yip and Chris Higgins each had one goal and one assist. Sophomores Colby Cohen and Colin Wilson each contributed a pair of assists. Freshman Kieran Millan recorded 22 saves for the Terriers to improve to 26-2-3 and break the school record for wins by a goaltender in a single season. Sophomore Dustin Carlson made just nine saves on 15 shots for the the Buckeyes before being replaced midway through the game by freshman Cal Heeter. BU snapped an 0-for-22 skid on the power play when Bonino wristed a shot from the right circle that beat Carlson high at 8:49 of the first to open the scoring. Parker also holds the record for NCAA semifinal appearances as a coach with 12. ROAD WARRIORS BU is undefeated in its last 16 games (14-0-2) away from home, its longest such stretch in program history. The previous record of 14 was established between March 26, 1977, and Feb. 16, 1978, when BU won 14 straight contests away from Walter Brown Arena. The Terriers also put together a 12-0-2 stretch away from Agganis Arena in 2005-06. Freshman goaltender Kieran Millan is 13-0-1 in 15 starts away from Agganis this season. SO FAR, A SUCCESS Only one other BU team has won more games than this year s Terriers, as the 1993-94 squad posted 34 victories before falling to Lake Superior State in the NCAA title game. This is the fifth time in program history that the Terriers have reached the 30-win plateau. Since Nov. 25, the Terriers are 25-2-4, and 18-1-3 since Jan. 16. The run included a 17-game unbeaten streak (14-0-3). It s their best 20-plus-game run since going 19-1-2 at the end of the 2005-06 season before falling in the NCAA Regional final. BU is 10-1-3 this season when facing a team ranked 12th in the nation or higher. The Terriers won 27 games during the regular season for the first time since the 1997-98 campaign. Dating back to Feb. 8 of last season, the Terriers are 43-9-4 in their last 56 games. SERIES HISTORY The Terriers and Wildcats have played 154 times since the 1924-25 season, and BU holds a decided advantage, 93-43-18 (.660). The rivals are an even 4-4-2 in their last 10 meetings. Twenty-nine meetings have gone into overtime, and the Terriers hold a slight edge, 8-6-15 (.534). BU has nine of the 15 shutouts in the series. The Terriers 2-1 setback against UNH is the only time they have lost season when allowing three or fewer goals. The shutout victory marked BU s first win over UNH at Agganis in seven tries, as the Wildcats were 4-0-2 in the building since its opening in January 2005. UNH went 0-for-14 on the power play during the home-and-home weekend. Senior Jason Lawrence and sophomore Colin Wilson were the Terriers top scorers in the threegame series, each recording two goals and three assists. Freshman Kieran Millan was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on Jan. 26 after allowing just one goal on 52 shots in BU s weekend sweep of New Hampshire. He recorded his second career shutout with a 22-save performance in a 5-0 home victory over the Wildcats before turning in a standout 29-save effort 3-1 win in Durham the following night. When UNH scored its lone goal of the weekend on Saturday (which went off the skate of a BU defender), it ended a streak of over 315 minutes during which Millan did not allow an evenstrength goal. Millan was also named the national Player of the Week by Inside Hockey for his efforts. SCOUTING THE WILDCATS After losing both ends of a home-and-home series with BU in January, UNH went 8-2-1 the rest of the regular season to earn the No. 3 seed HEAD TO HEAD in the Hockey East playoffs, but were swept in the quarterfinals by Boston College, 5-3 and 1-0. Sophomore James van Riemsdyk leads the Wildcats in points with 40 on 17 goals and 23 assists. Sophomore Mike Sislo has 31 points on the strength of a team-best 19 goals, while juniors Peter LeBlanc (14g, 15a) and Bobby Butler (8g, 21a) have registered 29 points apiece. Junior goaltender Brian Foster has made 34 starts and boasts a 2.70 goals against average and a.909 save percentage. UNH s power play ranks just 54th in the nation, working at an 11.7-percent success rate (23-of- 196). BEST VS. THE WILDCATS Senior Chris Higgins (2g, 8a) has 10 points in 13 career games against New Hampshire while sophomore Colin Wilson has nine points (3g, 6a) in just six games against the Wildcats. Seniors Matt Gilroy and Jason Lawrence have each added recorded two goals and six assists in 13 contests. TOURNAMENT NOTES TOURNAMENT HISTORY The Terriers are making their 31st appearance in the NCAA tournament (16th in last 20 years), second only to Michigan and Minnesota, which have been in the NCAAs 32 times each. Prior to this year, BU has appeared in regionals in just four other cities Worcester, Mass., Albany, N.Y., Providence, R.I., and Grand Rapids, Mich. REGIONAL ROUNDUP This is the first time that the Terriers have played in Manchester for the Northeast Regional... In its last NCAA appearance in 2007, BU participated in one of the western brackets for the first time since the NCAA tournament moved to the regional format in 1992 and it marked the first time the Terriers opened NCAA play in a location outside of New England or New York since the 1976 tournament, which took place in Denver, Colo.... BU served as the host institution for either the Northeast or East Regional at Worcester s DCU Center nine times in the last 15 years. THIRTY-SOMETHING This year s Terrier squad is one of 71 teams to have earned 30 wins heading into the NCAA tournament during its 62-year history and the 12th Hockey East team to achieve the feat. This is just the second time in program history that the Terriers have 30 wins entering the national tournament (1994-95). HOCKEY EAST WRAP-UP MILLAN NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR Freshman goaltender Kieran Millan became the third Boston University player in the last four years to be named Hockey East Rookie of the Year and was one of a league-high four Terriers named to the conference s all-star teams at the league s annual banquet on March 19. Senior Matt Gilroy and sophomore Colin Wilson were first-team honorees, as Gilroy became the first defenseman in league history to be named to the first team three times. Millan and sophomore Kevin Shattenkirk earned second-team accolades, while sophomore Nick Bonino and senior Chris Higgins were honorable mention selections. Millan joins Brandon Yip (2006) and Wilson (2008) as current Terriers who have claimed the Rookie of the Year award and he is the sixth BU player to earn the honor. He joins the late Scott Cashman (1990) and Rick DiPietro (2000) as the only other Terrier goaltenders to earn the accolade. Millan posted an impressive 15-1-3 record during league play and his goals against average of 1.80 against conference opponents was nearly three-tenths better than any other Hockey East netminder. MILLAN BACKSTOPS BU TO HOCKEY EAST TITLE Tournament MVP Kieran Millan posted 32 saves and senior Brandon Yip recorded a late first-period goal to lead top-seeded Boston University past UMass Lowell, 1-0, in the Hockey East title game on Saturday evening at TD Banknorth Garden. For the second time in his career, Yip recorded a game-winning goal in the league title game after tallying one in overtime in 2006 to push BU past Boston College, 2-1. Senior John McCarthy and freshman David Warsofsky recorded assists on the goal at the 18:38 mark in the first period. The Terriers penalty kill squashed all seven of the River Hawks man advantages, including a 5-on-3 chance in the middle of the third. BU was whistled for another penalty with 1:52 remaining

in regulation, and soon thereafter with an empty net, the River Hawks had a 6-on-4 advantage. Still, BU s defense held strong and pulled out the league s third-ever shutout in title-game history. Millan was one save shy of his career high of 33 and withstood a 14-shot barrage by the River Hawks in the second period. The freshman made the last of his 32 saves with 1.5 seconds remaining to seal the victory. Junior Nevin Hamilton turned in a strong 31- save performance for fifth-seeded UMass Lowell, which ends its season with a record of 20-16-2 after entering the title game on a five-game winning streak. Joining Millan on the All-Tournament Team were McCarthy, senior Matt Gilroy and sophomore Colin Wilson. UMass Lowell filled up the other two spots on the squad with sophomores Scott Campbell and Maury Edwards. TERRIERS EDGE BC IN SEMIFINAL Boston University scored three goals in a 44- second span in the third period to erase a 1-0 deficit before holding on to post a 3-2 semifinal victory over No. 15 Boston College. Juniors Zach Cohen and Brian Strait and sophomore Colin Wilson all scored in the 12th minute of play in the third period after BC got on the board first at the 17:50 mark of the second. The Eagles scored just as a BU penalty expired with 5:42 left in regulation, but the Terriers held on to advance to the championship game. Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play and BC held a 23-21 shot advantage, but BU scored on three of its four shots in the decisive third period. Kieran Millan made 21 saves in the BU goal while his counterpart, sophomore John Muse, made 18 saves for the Eagles. QUARTERFINAL RECAP For the third straight year, the Terriers needed a third and decisive game to clinch their Hockey East quarterfinal series, as they defeated eighthseeded Maine, 6-2, on March 15. BU opened the weekend with a 2-1 victory on Friday before the Black Bears snapped the Terriers 17-game unbeaten streak in a 6-3 contest on Saturday. The Terriers also had a 13-game unbeaten streak (11-0-2) against Maine snapped. BU had matched its longest unbeaten streak in the last 30 years with a 14-0-3 run before Maine pulled off the victory on Saturday. The Terriers got goals from six different players in Sunday s clincher. Maine went 6-of-15 on the power play in the series, including a 4-for-7 showing on Saturday. BU converted on just one of its 19 power-play chances on the weekend. Sophomore Colby Cohen had two goals, including Friday s game-winner on a 5-3 power play with 2:56 left in regulation, and one assist in the series. Freshman Gustav Nyquist, who had three goals on the weekend, scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead Maine to its win and force a deciding Game 3. The Black Bears earned their first victory in Agganis Arena in their eighth contest in the building. When Maine scored three times in the first period of Saturday s contest, it marked the first time all season that BU had allowed three goals in a period. BU BLANKS PC TO CLAIM REGULAR-SEASON CROWN After looking up to Northeastern all year in the Hockey East standings, the Terriers finally leapt past the Huskies on the final day of the regular season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Providence on March 8 at Agganis Arena. The victory allowed BU to earn its second league regular-season crown in the last four years. BU has now won the Hockey East regular-season championship eight times, sharing it on two of those occasions. The Terriers finished with 18 wins in league play for the first time since the 1997-98 season. Freshman Grant Rollheiser made 16 saves to record his first collegiate shutout. TERRIER NOTES HOBEY HOPEFULS Senior defenseman Matt Gilroy and sophomore forward Colin Wilson are among 10 finalists for the 2009 Hobey Baker Award, honoring the nation s top collegiate hockey player. This marks just the second time in program history that BU has two Hobey finalists, as both Chris Drury and Jay Pandolfo were among the final 10 in 1997. Drury is the only BU player to ever win the award. The Terriers last Hobey finalist was John Curry in 2007. Gilroy is one of only two defensemen among the finalists, joining Jamie McBain of Wisconsin, and Alaska goaltender Chad Johnson is the only other senior in the top 10. The other finalists are Louie Caporusso (Michigan), Zane Kalemba (Princeton), Jacques Lamoureux (Air Force), David McIntyre (Colgate), Viktor Stalberg (Vermont) and Brad Thiessen (Northeastern). WALTER BROWN GOES TO GILROY Hobey Baker finalist Matt Gilroy added college hockey s oldest honor to his growing list of accolades on Wednesday, as the senior defenseman was named the winner of the 57th Walter Brown Award, given annually to best American-born college hockey player in New England. Gilroy is the 11th Terrier to earn the award and the first since John Curry in 2007. They became the eighth team in league history - and the first since BC in 2002-03 - to finish first in both scoring offense and scoring defense. POWER OUTAGE The Terriers have boasted the nation s top-ranked power-play unit for the majority of the season, but entered the NCAAs on an 0-for-22 drought with the man advantage. BU capitalized on Ohio State s first penalty on Saturday, however, with a power-play tally by Nick Bonino to end the streak. FASTEST TO 20 BU reached the 20-win mark earlier than ever before in the program s 88-season history with its triumph over Harvard on Feb. 2 in the Beanpot. The previous record was beaten by one day, as the 1983-84 team earned its 20th victory on Feb. 3. CLASS ACT This year s six-member senior class has posted a 97-43-21 (.668) record during its four seasons at BU. That is the most since the Class of 1999 recorded 98 wins, but only 14 in its final season. The Terriers winningest class ever was the Class of 1996, which graduated with 124 victories. A GOOD WINTER FOR THE TERRIERS BU s women s basketball (19 straight wins) and men s ice hockey (17-game unbeaten streak) put together a combined 36-game undefeated streak before both runs came to an end on the weekend of March 14-15. NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS BU was the only team in the country to post a perfect non-conference record (9-0-0) during the regular season. Last year, the Terriers went 2-6-1 in non-conference play. BU went undefeated in its 10 non-conference games (9-0-1) during the 1995-96 season, but had not won its first eight non-league contests since the 1991-92 campaign, when it was a perfect 12-0-0. BU has not lost to a non-hockey East team since Dartmouth on Jan. 15, 2008. RANK AND FILE The Terriers are ranked first in both national polls for the seventh time in the last nine weeks. BU had a six-week run at the top of the USCHO national poll come to an end on March 16, marking their longest run as the No. 1 team in the 12-year history of the poll. On Nov. 10 of this season, BU was ranked first in both national polls for the first time since March 20, 2006. The Terriers had not been at the top of the polls during the regular season since Jan. 5, 1998. In just its fourth season at the varsity level, the Terriers women s ice hockey team earned its highest ranking ever in November when it was fourth in the USCHO.com poll. FINE LINE BU s line of Bonino, Yip and senior John Mc- Carthy combined for 12 points in an 8-2 road win over Providence on March 6. Nick Bonino scored a career-best five points (2g, 3a), becoming the first Terrier in nearly nine years to record a five point game. Chris Kelleher tallied a goal and four assists against Merrimack on March 14, 1998. Brandon Yip recorded four points, including his first career hat trick that was capped with his 100th career point. He became the 76th Terrier to reach the 100-point plateau. McCarthy tallied a career-high three points on a goal and two assists. ROOKIE STANDOUT BETWEEN THE PIPES Freshman Kieran Millan is 26-2-3 so far in his rookie campaign and his winning percentage of.887 is the best in the nation. He went undefeated in 20 straight decisions (17-0-3) before suffering a loss to Maine in the Hockey East quarterfinals. With his win over Ohio State on Saturday, Millan broke the school record for wins in a single season by a goaltender with 26. Jack Ferreria (1964-65) and Cleon Daskalakis (1983-84) shared the previous record of 25. Millan set the program record for best winning percentage in the first 20 decisions of a career (18-1-1,.925). Brian Durocher, BU s current women s hockey head coach, started out 17-1-1 as a freshman in 1974-75 before earning the loss in goal in the NCAA semifinals against Michigan Tech. Millan s goals against average of 1.88 is good for fifth in the country and is tops in Hockey East, while and his.922 save percentage ranks 15th nationally. He has given up more than one goal in a period just six times in his last 75 full stanzas between the pipes. Millan was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month back-to-back times, posting a 7-0-0 record and 1.00 goals against average in January after putting together a December that included a 2-0-1 record with a 1.30 goals against average. Millan earned a win in each of his first five starts, becoming the first BU netminder to do so since Michel Larocque (1995-96 season). COUNT ON IT The Terriers have not lost this season when sophomore Nick Bonino has scored a point, and the centerman has 47 points (17g, 30a) on the year. ALL-AMERICAN HERO Senior defenseman Matt Gilroy is trying to become just the third player in Boston University hockey history to earn All-America honors three times. The Hobey Baker finalist was named to the RBK All-America First Team last year after earning second-team honors as a sophomore. Rick Meagher 77 earned first-team honors three straight seasons, while Chris Drury 98 was named to the second team before capping his career with back-to-back first-team accolades. Gilroy leads all Hockey East defensemen in scoring this season with 36 points on eight goals and 28 assists. He has played in 143 consecutive games and boasts a career rating of plus-76, including a plus-20 mark so far this season. Gilroy was one of Sports Illustrated s Faces in the Crowd on Jan. 26 and was the subject of a New York Times feature by George Vecsey.

MR. WILSON Sophomore Colin Wilson leads all Hockey East players in points with 52 on 15 goals and 37 assists. He ranks second in the nation in points per game (1.30), trailing only Bryan Leitch of Quinnipiac (1.51), and is third in assists per game (0.93). With his game-winning goal in the Hockey East semifinal, Wilson become the first Terrier to tally 50 points in a season since Chris Drury. Northeastern, however, potted a powerplay goal of its own when McLaughlin knocked in a rebound just 26 seconds left to play in the opening period to allow his team to head into the first intermission tied. Bonino gave BU the lead back with his first career short-handed tally just 27 seconds into the second, as the sophomore sent home a rebound from a shot by senior Brandon Yip that bounced off the caromed off the glass and right to Bonino s stick in the left slot. McNeely scored the Huskies final goal of the night at 10:01 of the second to make it a 2-2 affair, but Lawrence countered just 65 seconds with the game-winner off assists from senior Chris Higgins and Wilson.
