Hudson Mohawk Meeting Jan 23, 2011 Hudson Mohawk Chapter February 20th 2011 meeting called to order by Jack Pollard at 2:17 PM at Homefront Cafe. Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Prayer for David M. Pozzi led by Jack Pollard. Last month minutes of meeting accepted. Treasurer's report not available, balance over $7000 No old business was discussed. New Business: 1: Parade locations and dates as follow: A: Altamont May 22 at 2PM Gate 2 B: Schoharie May 26 at 6:30 PM C: Cobleskill May 30 at 10 AM D: Berne May 30 E: Waterveliet Arsenal May 30 F: Voorheesville May 21 at 10 AM G: Veteran Auto Show at the VA, Albany August 6 H: Veterans' Day parade November 11 2: Bill Mischler reminded club to stay in touch with John Schneider at the Waterveliet Arsenal about parades. 3: Jack Pollard introduced Ron Davis who is with the Antique Auto Show at the NY Power Authority in Blenheim, on Rt 30. Ron invited all NY Penn members and vehicles to participate in their annual show on July 17th. There will be no charge to attend this 40 year old event. We can move in on Friday July 16 after 9 AM to set up our displays. We may camp with our vehicles but will not have unlimited in and out access all night as security is in effect. There will be antique cars, farm equipment, and 2 antique vendor tents. Also, Brooks Chicken barbeque and other food vendors. Don D'Ambro asked about live weapons displays, Jack Pollard said all weapons will not be "Live". About 7 members indicated that they would attend with vehicles. 4: Jack Pollard mentioned that the large periscope on display at The Homefront Cafe is one of about 10 in existence that were installed on the Iowa Class Battleships as a method of directing 16" gunfire if the computer fire control system failed. Very impressive. Thank you Jack, Cindy, and Mark pollard 5:John Nichols said several members have called him about our WWT show in Cobleskill for 2011, wondering if it is still on. Bob Muller said he will update the WWT website to clear up any misunderstanding that there is no show in 2011. 6: Dominic Carnibucci asked if members can receive a membership card to affirm their dues are paid for the year. This will be referred to NY Penn Headquarters for review and approval. 7: Charlene Ryan asked how many members are there in the club at present, the answer was about 100. Charlene also mentioned that the NY Penn website has not been updated since October 26 2010 and asked for that to be taken care of. 8: David Pozzi's family intends to hold a spring flea market for NY Penn members as soon as the snow melts. Further information will be emailed to members as it comes in. 9: Spring military vehicle shows are: Redball swapmeet at Jim Thorpe, PA on March 5; MTA of NJ at Sussex Fairgrounds April 16 and 17 10: Next Month's meeting will be at Bob Muller's Shop on Rt. 146 on March 20 at 1 PM. 11: John Kolanchick shared a good Mack Truck story with the members from his days as a new truck salesman, Thank you John K. 12: Auction items: donated by Vehicles of Victory, Bob Muller. Total take was $24 13: New vehicle announcements: John Tennis bought a 530 Class 2 1/2 Ton Fire Truck and donated $1 14: Club gear sold: Hats, stickers and patches, Total of $28 15: Club dues paid: 4 members paid for 2011, Gary Neighmond, Pete Meserole, Werden Goodemoot, and Bob Muller. V o l u m e 1 5, I s s u e 3 P a g e 2 MINUTES OF MEETING A COMPANY, NY-PENN MVCC, INC. The February meeting of A company, NY-PENN MVCC, Inc., was held on 13 February 2011 at the home of Bob and Karen Messersmith, Shirley Road, Newark Valley, NY. The meeting was called to order at 13:45 by 1st Vice President Carl Gordon. Members and guests in attendance were: Frank Fairfield, Matt & Kate Magda, Bob & Karen Messersmith, Paul Wadeson, Becky Whiting, Carl & Heather Gordon, Mark Snyder, Flo Stacconi, Bill Harris, and Bob Sokol A motion was requested by Carl Gordon for the acceptance of the January meeting minutes, as published. The motion to accept the January meeting minutes was made by Becky Whiting, and seconded by Matt Magda. All members in attendance voted to accept the January meeting minutes. OLD BUSINESS Frank Fairfield reported that the treasury balance, as of 2/10/2011, was $7,727.50. The amount reflected a payment of $145.92 for the January newsletter. Up coming expenditures will be $121.53 for the February newsletter and $100 to the MVPA for insurance. There will be an expense for a CPA, hired to file Club tax returns for the last quarter of 2009 and all of 2010. The previous Club Treasurer did not file the returns. Fines and penalties for non-filing are not expected on the Federal level, but are anticipated on the State level. An audit of the Club treasury was done by Bob Messersmith, at the request of Frank Fairfield, during the A Company January meeting. Based on the information provided for the audit, the treasury balanced. The Club budget for 2011 will be developed at the next Board of Directors meeting. NEW BUSINESS Easy Company member Dave Pozzi pasted away on 2/10/2011. The Club will make a donation in accordance with the Club policy for donations in memory of active Club members. A suggestion was made that the Club should maintain a book of all Club policies adopted by the Club Board of Directors. The Club does have such a book. A question was raised about insurance coverage for Club officers during Club events. The officers are covered under the MVPA policy. A list of the current Club officers will be sent to the MVPA with the insurance payment. A suggestion was made that the Board of Directors look into an organization that follows legislation that effects our hobby and what the Club could do to inform members of legislation. Club events and activities of member interest are listed in the NY-Penn News. Up coming activities discussed were: St Patrick s Day parade in Binghamton on March 5th. MV s to lead the parade with wounded warriors. Bob Sokol will have his jeep in the parade. Becky has contact information for participation. March 12th, The AACA, Tioga Region, will have a flea market in the old school near Marvin Park, Owego, NY. The AACA, Tioga Region web site should be checked for additional information. The Norwich, NY car show held Memorial Day weekend. The on base show at Fort Drum to be held June 18th and 19th. The exact location on base for the show has not yet been approved by the army. Once the location is approved, additional information will be published. There will be a link in the Club s newsletter for registration. There will possible be a convoy into the show with the other NY-PENN groups. A Company picnic and Board of Directors meeting in August at Frank Fairfield s. Dave leaves his wife Debra and a daughter Marissa, and son Bradley. Dave was very active in the MV hobby and will be sorely missed by all of us as being an always cheerful, and enthusiastic friend. Many thanks to Bob and Karen for being such great hosts. This rare periscope was on display at the Home Front Café during the HM meeting. This is one of the few remaining periscopes from the IOWA class Battleships main gun turrets. This would be mounted in the turret and would be in line with the direction the guns were aimed. In the event that the Fire Control center on the ship was disabled, the main guns could be aimed visually with this periscope.
