Box 182 Bass River, MA 02664 http://www.bassriveryc.org NOTICE OF RACE Summer 2010 Club Races 1 RULES 1.1 The BRYC Summer 2010 Club Races will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2009-2012, the prescriptions of the US Sailing Association, and the applicable Class regulations. 1.2 Racing rule(s) will be changed as follows: For the Wianno Senior class, rules 44.1 and 44.2 will be changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe, is required. The changes will appear in full in the sailing instructions. 2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 2.1 The regatta is open to all boats complying with the class regulations of the following classes: Wianno Senior Beetle Cat Club 420 Optimist Dinghy 2.2 The skipper of a Wianno Senior or a Beetle Cat shall be either a member of the Bass River Yacht Club or a member of the Southern Massachusetts Sailing Association. Other persons may steer the yacht briefly during spinnaker sets, repairs, or in similar situations. Competitors in the Club 420 or International Optimist Dinghy classes shall be a member of the Bass River Yacht Club or a duly registered student in the Sailing School. 2.3 Eligible boats may register and submit any required fees online by clicking below: Optimist Dinghys: 420 s: Beetle Cats: Wianno Seniors:
or by completing the applicable Entry Form in Annex B and sending it, together with any required fees, by 15 June 2010 to: BRYC 2010 Summer Races C/o Race Chair 68 Indian Memorial Drive South Yarmouth MA 02664 2.4 Late entries will be accepted under the following conditions: If a competitor has not filed a valid entry form prior to arriving at the starting line, the competitor will be permitted to compete in the day s races provided that an entry form is completed and filed with the Race Committee within 90 minutes of the return of the Race Committee boat to the Club dock. If a valid entry form has not been filed within the 90 minute window, the competitor will be scored as DNC. 3. FEES Required fees are as detailed in 2.3: 4. SCHEDULE The BRYC Summer 2010 Calendar, which includes the schedule of races, will be available after 15 June 2010 in the member area of the Club website or from the Club steward after 26 June 2010. 5. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available after 15 June 2010 in the member area of the Club website or from the Club steward after 29 June 2010. 6. VENUE Unless advised otherwise by the Race Committee in accordance with the Sailing Instructions, all races for Wianno Seniors, Beetle Cats, and Club 420s will be started within 0.5 NM of the Bass River Bell Buoy No. 2. The starting location for all Optimist Dinghy races will be advised by the Race Committee prior to leaving the dock. 7. THE COURSES The courses to be sailed will be communicated as detailed in the Sailing Instructions and will normally be selected from those shown in Annex A. 8. PENALTY SYSTEM For the Wianno Senior class, rules 44.1 and 44.2 are changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe, is required.
9. SCORING Scoring will be the Low Point system of the RRS Annex A, except that no scores will be dropped. Any yacht competing in more than two days of racing, but has still not paid the entry fee, will subsequently be scored as DNC in any races after the second day of racing. 10. RADIO COMMUNICATION A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. A radio or mobile telephone of any type may be used, and is encouraged to be carried for use, in an emergency. 11. PRIZES Prizes will be given as follows: INTERNATIONAL OPTIMIST DINGHY CLASS: WEEKEND SERIES TROPHIES A trophy is presented to the first and second place winners of both the July and August series races. Special races are not counted in the monthly point accumulations. MURIEL T TROPHY Special Race, July 4th. DR WARREN A JOHNSON TROPHY July 4th Weekend Series. In addition to the July 4th race, includes the weekend races of the weekend closest to the July 4th holiday. BEETLE CAT CLASS: WEEKEND SERIES TROPHIES A trophy is presented to the first and second place winners of both the July and August series races. GREAT TURKEY DAY RACE TROPHY Special Race, Thanksgiving morning. LARRY SLABINE TROPHY Special Race, Thanksgiving morning, Old Salts Division. CLUB 420 CLASS: SUMMER SERIES TROPHIES A trophy is presented to the first and second place winners of the Summer races. Both the helmsman and crew are scored to encourage sailors to participate as both a helmsman and a crewman. All races are counted in the point accumulations. WIANNO SENIOR CLASS: WEEKEND SERIES TROPHIES A trophy is presented to the first and second place winners of both the July and August series races.
