The strke mst cmmnly used is smetimes called the crawl, which is characterized by the alternate strking f the arms ver the water surface and an alternating (upand-dwn) flutter kick. On turns and finishes, sme part f the swimmer must tuch the wall. Mst swimmers d a flip turn. The Breaststrke requires simultaneus mvements f the arms n the same hrizntal plane. The hands are pressed ut frm in frnt f the breast in a heart shaped pattern and recvered under r n the surface f the water. The kick is a simultaneus smewhat circular mtin similar t the actin f a frg. On turns and at the finish, the swimmer must tuch the wall with bth hands simultaneusly at, abve r belw the water surface. Team Medley, cmmnly referred t as the I.M., features all fur strkes. Mst meets will require yu t check in at least 30 minutes befre yur event. Yu will usually hear three calls t check in. The final call is the time yu must reprt t yur place f meeting. Unifrm and Ftwear Up t 11 spikes may be used in a she. Tw bibs are issued, ne must be wrn n the frnt and the ther must be wrn n the back. Start, False Start and Timing The cmmands f the start f sprints are, n yur marks and set. When all the athletes are set, the starting device will signal start. An athlete can chse t abrt the start after the n yur marks and set cmmands and befre the blwing f the starting device by raising his hand r standing up. The athlete may be warned fr imprper cnduct by the referee if the actin was determined t be inapprpriate. A false start ccurs when an athlete begins the starting mtin after assuming a full r final set psitin befre the firing f the starting device. If a cmpetitr disturbs ther athletes at the starting line, it may be cnsidered a false start. Thugh frequently changed in recent past, the first false start results in disqualificatin frm the race. TENNIS All standard rules f tennis apply (except if mentined belw), this includes the standard scring system f 0, 15, 30, 40, game. Events: Men s Single Wmen s Single SPLASH will nly accmmdate 12 entries fr men and 6 fr wmen, therefre it is vital t register as sn as pssible. The first rund wuld be a grup stage whereby each grup will cnsist f 3 players. Here, the tp tw players with mst pint differences frm each grup will advance t the next stage. During the grup stage, players are t play a set f first t 8 games, with n deuces and the returning player being able t decide the serving side. If the match reaches 7-7, players will play a tiebreaker. After the grup stage, players will be in a knckut stage. Here, players are t play best f 3 sets, als with n deuces and the returning player being able t decide the serving side. If any f the matches reach 6-6, players will play a tiebreaker. After the first knckut stage, players will be in the semi-finals rund where they are required t play best f 3 sets, with deuces and tie-breakers. The same applies fr the final match. Nte: Fr wmen s tennis, semi-finals will be played after the grup stage. As this is the first tennis event held by SPLASH, there will be n seeded players and n exceptins r byes (unless caused by last minute withdrawal). All playing rder is generated thrugh randm means and nt decided manually. ** IMPORTANT: The University and Sprts Training Village (STV) enfrce a strict nclred she utsle plicy t avid staining the curts. Please be aware that players with shes that may stain curts may be banned frm participating by STV management. Page 19

ULTIMATE FRISBEE Each game cnsists f tw 15 minute halves, with n breaks. Each team must cnsist f 7 players and 5 substitutes (ttal 12). There must be a minimum f 2 female players n the pitch at all times. The scring cap is set at 11 pints. Each team will be allwed tw timeuts thrughut the game. Each timeut shall nt be lnger than 1 minute. Rules: Pull T begin play the ultimate players frm each team line up n their end znes, and the defense team pulls (thrws) the disc t the ther team as a "kick-ff". Pulls are lng thrws, and they are thrwn in effrts f giving the ffensive team pr field psitin and a chance fr the defense t get dwn the field sn enugh t stp advances. The team that pulls t start the game is usually decided in a manner similar t a cin tss. Instead f using a cin ften an ultimate frisbee disc is used. Mvement f the Ultimate Disc The disc may be mved in any directin by cmpleting a pass t a teammate. After catching a pass, a player is required t cme t a stp as quickly as pssible, and then can nly mve their nn-pivt ft. A cmmn miscnceptin is that a player must setup a pivt ft befre they can thrw the disc. In fact, the player can thrw the disc befre stpping within the first cuple f steps after they gain pssessin f the disc. It is this fact that makes the "Greatest" rule pssible. A "Greatest" ccurs when a player jumps frm within bunds t catch a disc that has passed utf-bunds, this is als knwn as an "ultimate play". Page 20

The player must then thrw the disc back in-bunds befre his feet r any ther part f his bdy tuches the grund. The thrwer may nly catch their wn thrw if anther player tuches it in the air. Upn receiving the disc, a player has ten secnds t pass it. This perid is knwn as the "stall", and each secnd is cunted ut (astall cunt) by a defender (the marker), wh must be standing within three meters f the thrwer. A player may keep the disc fr lnger than ten secnds if n marker is within three meters, r if the marker is nt cunting the stall; if there is a change f marker, the new marker must restart the stall frm zer. Scring A pint is scred when a player catches a pass in the end zne his team is attacking. After a pint is scred, the teams exchange ends. The team wh just scred remains in that end zne, and the ppsing team takes the ppsite end zne. Change f pssessin An incmplete pass results in a change f pssessin. When this happens the defence immediately becmes the ffense and gains pssessin f the disc where it cmes t a stp n the field f play, r where it first travelled ut f bunds. Play des nt stp because f a turnver. Page 21

Reasns fr turnvers: Thrw-away the thrwer misses his target and the disc falls t the grund. Drp the receiver is nt able t catch the disc. Blck a defender deflects the disc in mid-flight, causing it t hit the grund. Interceptin a defender catches a disc thrwn by the ffense. Out f bunds the disc lands ut f bunds, hits an bject ut f bunds r is caught by a player wh lands ut f bunds r leaps frm utside the playing field. Stall a player n ffense des nt release the disc befre the defender has cunted ut ten secnds. If a ful is called the play may be stpped mmentarily.if the player cmmitting the ful disagrees with (cntests) the ful call, the disc is returned t the last thrwer. Vilatin ccurs when a player vilates the rules but des nt initiate physical cntact. Cmmn vilatins include traveling with the disc, duble teaming, and picking (mving in a manner s as t bstruct the mvement f any player n the defensive team). Teams are allwed t substitute players after a pint is scred r fr injured player after an injury time ut. In the case f an injury substitutin, the ppsing team is allwed t make a substitutin fr a nn-injured player. Players are respnsible fr ful and line calls. Players reslve their wn disputes. This creates a spirit f hnesty and respect n the playing field. It is the duty f the player wh cmmitted the ful t speak up and admit his infractin. Occasinally, fficial bservers are used t aid players in refereeing, knwn as bservers. Team unifrm is mandatry r bibs as substitutins. Prper ftwear and attire shuld be wrn during the game. Page 22

TABLE TENNIS Standard table tennis rules apply t all games.
