Race 6: 2016 Godolphin Crown (Group 3) 1300m Fitou stable representative Mr D Beadman advised that the mare had pulled up with no abnormalities subsequent to blundering badly near the 800m. Mr Beadman was asked to provide a veterinary clearance for Fitou before racing again. BROADMEADOW Saturday 30 April 2016 Race 6: McKanna Fabrications Class 1 Handicap 1150m Manhattan Chic Stewards today questioned rider A Hyeronimus regarding his riding of the mare. He stated that the only instructions he was given from trainer Mr J Austin was to have Manhattan Chic ridden with cover, as it has a tendency to overrace. He added his mount began awkwardly and, although it was one of the better horses to begin, bearing in mind his instructions, he did not want to ride it along in the early stages, as he was trying to obtain cover. A Hyeronimus stated, as he observed runners crossing to his outside, he felt he was going to be able to maintain his forward position with cover and for this reason he did not ride his mount along, as he did not want it to overrace. He further stated that, when Bambino Clementine and Tabrobane both crossed his mount, he was obliged to settle at the tail of the field, which was further back than he had intended. When questioned whether, bearing in mind the manner in which his mount began, there was an opportunity to hold his position between Tabrobane and Khreshchatyk, he said he felt at this stage he was unable to do so, as he felt he was receiving pressure from Tabrobane. When questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn and whether there was an opportunity to shift around the field and obtain clear running to the outside of Mr Magpie, A Hyeronimus stated he was reluctant to perform this manoeuvre, as he was racing in a position to the inside of the heels of that runner and to shift to its outside, he would have had to steady his mount and shift out. He further stated that he did not consider this manoeuvre, as he felt he had already established running between Mr Magpie and Khreshchatyk. Stewards advised rider A Hyeronimus that he had erred in not placing his mount under pressure and maintaining a position to the outside of
2 Khreshchatyk, particularly bearing in mind the manner in which his mount began in that it was already racing in a forward position. Trainer Mr J Austin confirmed the instructions to A Hyeronimus were to have Manhattan Chic ridden with cover, however, was surprised to see the mare racing at the rear of the field. WYONG Thursday 28 April 2016 Race 1: HMA Instrumentation 3yo Maiden Handicap 1000m Quantrill trainer Mr M Smith advised that the gelding had pulled up well, however, has suffered a swollen eye after being struck by a clod of turf. Mr Smith advised his intention would be to continue on with Quantrill's preparation. Race 6: HMA Greenbank Benchmark 65 Handicap 1100m First Class To Rio trainer Ms J Greentree advised the mare had pulled up will, however, would now be retired. LATE RIDING CHANGES: As T Clark was indisposed, due to an injury to his right wrist, following being dislodged on the way to the start in Race 1, Stewards permitted the following riding substitutions: Race 2 Race 4 Race 5 Race 6 Race 7 J Ford on Virgilio. T Angland on Raitza. B Shinn on Clear Ripples. B Shinn on I Can Rock J Collett on New Tipperary. RACE 1: All Too Hard Handicap 1100m Able Touch was a late withdrawal, by order of the Stewards, at 12.57pm after it dislodged its rider, T Clark, on the way to the start and galloped for a considerable distance. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Able Touch be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 12.57pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1st) Faith's Encore less 2ȼ win and 2ȼ place 2nd) Omiya less 6ȼ place 3rd) Perfect Rhyme less 8ȼ place T Clark was stood down from his remaining engagements after suffering an injury to his right wrist. A post-race veterinary examination of Able Touch did not reveal any abnormalities. Perfect Rhyme slow to begin. Thai Boxing slow to begin. Tim's Principal slow to begin. Lewinski overraced in the middle stages. Making the home turn was taken wider when Faith's Encore shifted out to improve around the heels of Once More A Lady. RACE 2: Pro-Ride Handicap 1100m
3 Lord Kingsley jumped awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages, obliging its rider to allow his mount to stride forward and race outside the leader. Cadogan slow to begin. Phoenix Claws raced ungenerously in the early stages and for some distance near the 600m got its head up when being restrained from the heels of Mantilla. Raise An Army was inclined to lay out under pressure in the straight. RACE 3: TAB Rewards Plate 1400m Danecora on the home turn was inconvenienced when crowded between Sanaya and Most Exalted, which shifted out to improve to the outside of Arancini. Rider K McEvoy advised that the filly raced a little keenly early and when the race developed into a sprint home, after receiving a bump on straightening, did not quicken. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Plea Bargain a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have aggravated a speedy cut to the off-hind pastern. Mon Bel Ami a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which hung out, did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 4: McGrath Estate Agents Handicap 1600m Via Napoli crowded at the start between Baveno and Themis, which shifted out. Via Napoli then raced in restricted room for some distance in the early stages when Themis continued to shift out, despite the efforts of its rider. Baveno rider J McDonald stated his mount overraced throughout the early stages and refused to settle and for this reason failed to finish the race off. Themis held up rounding the home turn on the heels of Sheilarized and, when awkwardly positioned shortly after straightening, laid in and tightened Baubo. Baubo - Near the 200m Baubo, which had been held up for clear running, endeavoured to improve into a narrow run inside Savannah Rose, which was commencing to weaken. A short distance later Savannah Rose shifted in marginally and was touched on the hindquarter by Baubo, causing Baubo to be checked and blundering and Savannah Rose to be become badly unbalanced when corrected by its rider, J Collett. As Stewards were satisfied that there was no rider error, no action was taken. Baubo was then untested to the finish. Raitza when questioned regarding the filly settling back in the field today, rider T Angland explained that he had instructions to try and find cover, as Raitza can overrace. He added, whilst his mount began well, he restrained, however, it commenced to overrace and was difficult to settle. He added, when a position handy to the speed was not available, he was obliged to restrain and settled at the back of the field. Sheilarized when questioned regarding the performance, App. A Adkins explained, after his mount was slow to begin, he was obliged to ride his mount forward to be with the leaders, as instructed. He added that his mount then overraced in what was a strong tempo, however, he
4 expressed disappointment in the performance of the filly, as it weakened noticeably in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor postrace recovery, respiratory distress and an excessively elevated heart rate. Trainer Mr J Pride was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance, including an endoscopic examination, prior to Sheilarized trialling satisfactorily prior to racing again. RACE 5: TAB More Than Just Winning Handicap 1400m Swift Lady stable foreman Mr G McRae, who advised the mare was to be ridden more forward, was reminded of his obligation to notify a change of tactics at least 30 minutes prior to the advertised starting time of the race. Bleiler slow to begin. Girl Sunday - held up making the home turn and shortly after straightening was steadied when disappointed for clear running between Clear Ripples and Crown Moss. Marmaduke's Lady held up for clear running until near the 200m. The Iron Maiden did not obtain completely clear running until passing the 150m. Clear Ripples rider B Shinn explained that the mare was obliged to do some work from its wide barrier to cross runners to its inside in the early stages. He added, when Crown Moss then applied some pressure to Clear Ripples in the middle stages, the filly, which was stepping up in distance in what was a solidly run race, gave ground over the latter stage. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stradance a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 6: Schweppes Handicap 1100m Badajoz acting on veterinary advice when the colt sustained a laceration to the off-side stifle upon leaving the mounting enclosure, Badajoz was withdrawn at 4.04pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Badajoz be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 4.04pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1st) Royal Tudor less 33ȼ win and 27ȼ place 2nd) I Can Rock less 24ȼ place 3rd) Brooklyn Storm less 18ȼ place The Australian Turf Club was asked to conduct a review of all gates and entrances in the horse stall area and mounting enclosure and correct any deficiencies prior to the next race meeting being conducted. Royal Tudor checked on jumping between Forget Maybe, which was taken out by Brooklyn Storm and Monsieur Affaire, which shifted in. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Forget Maybe crowded on jumping. Slydini - shortly after the start was hampered when crowded by Cruise Power, which shifted in.
5 Monsieur Affaire at the 600m was buffeted for room between Klammer and Brooklyn Storm (App. D Panya), which shifted out slightly. App. Panya was advised to exercise more care. Remunerator briefly held up near the 200m on the heels of Zippity Lass. RACE 7: tab.com.au Handicap 1600m Not A Gypsy was examined on course by the Club's Veterinary Officer after the Stewards were notified that the gelding had suffered a minor abrasion to its near-side stifle and was passed fit to start. New Tipperary acting on veterinary advice that the gelding was displaying an elevated temperature, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of New Tipperary at 4.01pm. Triple Hero - blundered badly on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Bonus Spin made contact with Old Habits at the 1000m. Old Habits Made contact with Bonus Spin at the 1000m. Near the 600m became unbalanced when bumped by Bonus Spin, which shifted out to improve around Major Major. Major Major near the 700m improved onto the heels of Fly Till Dawn and was steadied. Fly Till Dawn held up making the home turn. Divine Sanction hampered and carried wider by Morello, which was brushed by Eschiele on straightening. GENERAL: Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Able Touch, Omiya (20), Thai Boxing. Race 2: Astley, Virgilio, Margie 'N' Me, Cadogan. Race 3: Most Exalted, Plea Bargain, Danecora, Mon Bel Ami, Hogmanay. Race 4: Themis, Via Napoli, Baveno, Sheilarized. Race 5: Stradance, Rose's Song, Marmaduke's Lady. Race 6: Klammer, Badajoz, All The Way, Zippity Lass, I Can Rock. Race 7: Fly Till Dawn, Wine 'N' Dine, Braces.
