Chief Instructor IOGKF South Africa 9th Dan Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate June 17 19, 2016 Spokane, Washington Contact Gene Villa (509) 309-2978 www.spokanekarate.com
Dear Sensei, This June 17th 19th, it is with great pleasure that I welcome back to Spokane, Sensei Bakkies Laubscher. For those of you who may have never trained with this truly amazing instructor, you are in for a great weekend of learning. Sensei Laubscher is the Chief Instructor of South Africa and the senior Technical Advisor to the IOGKF International. He has trained in the martial arts for over forty years and has been a direct student of Higaonna Sensei since 1972. Sensei Laubscher is one of the most respected and highly sought after instructors in the entire IOGKF. He has literally taught all over the world. Every time I have had the opportunity to train with this gifted and talented instructor, I am in awe of his depth of knowledge and understanding of Goju-Ryu. Bakkies Sensei will be in the United States to attend his son s wedding in Pennsylvania. While in the states, he graciously agreed to teach at Nakamura Sensei s in Canada and in Spokane. If you are unable to attend the Budosai this July, then you should definitely consider training with Bakkies Sensei. If it is closer for you to attend at Nakamura Sensei s, then you should do so. There will not be any opportunities in the USA for this level of instruction. The gasshuku will be held at The Comfort Inn downtown. This is the same hotel I used for the Black Belt Gasshuku in 2013. All registrations should be postmarked no later than May 31st to receive an early registration discount. There will be a black belt grading conducted by Bakkies Sensei at my dojo. Anyone who has any students up for grading this year should consider this one of only few opportunities to grade in the USA this year. If you have a student you want graded, please contact me directly. All applications for grading should be mailed to me and received by June 1st with all appropriate fees. I look forward to seeing everyone at the gasshuku. The opportunity to train with one of the most senior instructors in the IOGKF should not be missed. We, as instructors, are entrusted by Higaonna Sensei to carry on the art and traditions of Goju-Ryu to future generations. We should always try to take advantage of every chance that s offered to do just that. See you all in June. Sincerely, Gene Villa
