Example: Coaches Letter U7 Boys under Coach (Coach Sam Soccer) Hi Boys and Parents: Welcome back to those returning players and parents. We have lost one and picked up 1 to our soccer team for the 2011 fall season. We are still listed as U7, which means 4 vs.4, longer quarters, and larger fields still without goalies. As most of you know we are here for the kids to have FUN second for them to learn more about the great game of soccer. To accomplish these it will take a combined effort of the parents, kids and myself. Below are a few things as coach I am expected to do: Keep it FUN. Teach the basics of soccer (Technical foundations and Skills will be the focus) Rules of the game Encourage good sportsmanship to all (players, coaches and referees) Hey parents you are still responsible for reinforcing a good sportsmanship during practice/games along with safety equipment (shin guards), cleats, and a size 3-soccer ball and a great attitude. As for the boys it is very simple. Have FUN while obeying the rules of the game and respect for all. Items to address: TEAM NAME (Real Owasso) Team pictures (Need Team manager to set this up early) Help with practices / games (Chris Jacobs dad) Practices on Mondays & Thursdays 5:30p.m. for now Inform me if not able to make either practices or games After game snack / drink Never criticize the referee Positive encouragement & instruction of ALL players Parent needs to sign my copy of enrollment form Parents need to sign CODE OF CONDUT form Practice field will need some work this year (listen for a call to help) I look forward to this season and hope everyone else is as well.

In Closing If children are not learning and improving their skills, it can't be fun. If it isn't fun, children won't want to come back to play soccer. So be prepared, know the game and the proper skill progressions, and provide the child with numerous opportunities to explore and discover through active participation. During the 10 short weeks of Soccer League, we should never forget that it is the "needs of the kids that we are here to serve and not our own. So let's adopt a "child centered approach to coaching and competition. Recognize the needs of your kids and balance your needs with theirs. Develop perspective: remember what you were like at their age and what you could do then; don't judge the kids by what you can do now.
