Mississippi sends RHP Wes Parsons (0-1) to the hill and Jackson counters with LHP Alex Young (4-5) LAST GAME: The Mississippi Braves continued its struggles to start the second-half season, dropping the series opener to the Jackson Generals by a score of 5-0 at Trustmark Park Sunday. FUTURES GAME: Two Mississippi players, Outfielder Ronald Acuna and Pitcher Mike Soroka, were selected to play in the World Futures vs U.S. Futures Game in Miami, FL as a part of Major League Baseball s All-Star Weekend. Both players were part of the World Futures Team as Mike Soroka was born in Canada and Ronald Acuna hails from Venezuela. Acuna started in Center Field and finished in left and was one of only three players to play the entire ball game getting four plate appearances going 0-4 with a strike out. Soroka pitched one inning giving up one unearned run on one hit and one strike out. The U.S. defeated the World team 7-6. MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Pitcher Kolby Allard, 19, picked up the win and held Mobile to six hits over five frames with one walk and six strikeouts. He surrendered three runs but they were all unearned. Allard is 5-6 with a 2.88 ERA in 17 starts for the M-Braves this season. The southpaw was named Braves Organizational Pitcher of the Month at Double-A Mississippi after going 1-1 with a 1.67 ERA in five starts during the month of April. MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU PLAYER OF THE WEEK: OF Ronald Acuna, 19, posted a.400 average (8-for-20) with one double, two homers and five RBI in five games during the week. He is hitting.325 with 21 extra-base hits, 29 RBI and 18 stolen bases (thirdbest in the league) in 54 games since joining the M-Braves in May. Acuna was named Braves Organizational Player of the Month at Double-A Mississippi after posting a.415 batting average with seven doubles, a triple, three homers and 15 RBI in 21 games during the month of May. BRAVES ORGANIZATIONAL PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE MONTH: The Atlanta Braves announced the minor league pitchers and players of the month for June. For the Double-A Mississippi club, RHP Mike Soroka and OF Jared James were selected for the monthly accolades. Soroka, 19, posted a record of 3-1 with a 0.79 ERA in five starts during the month of June. The young righty was selected as a 2017 Southern League All-Star and was named to the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The Canadian was selected by the Braves in the first round (28th overall) of the 2015 draft. James, 23, hit.333 with five doubles, a triple and seven RBI during the month of June. He s hitting.256 with nine doubles, four triples, two home runs and 19 RBI in 71 games with the Double-A Braves this season. The California native was selected by the Braves in the 34th round of the 2016 draft out of Long Beach State.
