Final 3km of Stage 1 The final 3km is on a flat relatively straight and relatively wide road. Features of note are: 1. There are traffic calming measures at Bansha with 1km to go. There are six traffic island with accompanying choke points from the road side 2. There is a roundabout just as you turn on to the bridge with 200m to go 3. The footpath juts out on the right hand side just after the junction at the Bianconi Inn (100m to go) to reduce the road width to about 5m 4. The slope for the final 100m is at about 17%

Final 500m of Stage 1 1. There is a gentle downhill run to a sweeping left hand bend. The road is more than 8m wide through to the approach to the roundabout. 2. There is a traffic island to separate the traffic lanes at the approach to the roundabout. 3. The bridge itself and the remainder of the finish run-in are approx 6m wide. Note the footpath sticks out on the right hand side (approx 1m) to create a choke point for the oneway system at the Bianconi Inn. 4. The final 100m is uphill at approx 17%

Specific issues of concern on Stage 1 1. There are three clusters of Traffic Calming Measures on the route. The first is at Fossa (15.4km) and consists of 2 islands and choke points. They constrict a very wide road to lanes that have a width of 3.5m both are reasonably obvious as you approach them. Photo 1: Approach to the Traffic calming measures at Fossa Photo 2: Second installation at Fossa

The second set of traffic calming measures is at the entrance to Killarney Golf and Fishing Club (17.9km). It consists of 3 traffic islands and choke points. They constrict the road to two lanes of approx 4m wide. Photo 3: Approach to traffic calming installation at the entrance to Killarney Golf Club Photo 4: Final two traffic islands at the entrance to Killarney Golf Club The third set of traffic calming measures is just before the 1km to go mark. It consists of six traffic islands and their associated choke points. They reduce to roadway to a width of 4.5m approx. They do not normally present a difficulty to the riders other than the final installation which is not obvious until you are very close to it. There are 60km speed limit signs erected on this installation which is also the 1km to go mark

Photo 5: Traffic calming measures approaching the 1km to go mark 2. The junction for Kilcummin at 21.3km is a right hand turn across the N22. This is a very busy road and while stewards will be in position and Gardaí are expected to be on duty riders should exercise care here 3. The road surface is very rough at various stages between the turn off for Kilcummin (21.3km) and the top of the climb at Knocknaboul (52.3km). The total length of the pavé does not exceed 5km and it is never more than 800m long approx. 4. There are 4 roundabouts on the course. The first at Ballydowney (20km) will be stewarded and it is expected that it will be manned by Gardaí. You are required to take the left hand way around only. Do not attempt to go the wrong way around the roundabout. The second roundabout is 500m further on at Lidl. It will be stewarded and it is expected that Gardaí will be on duty here. It is effectively a left hand turn. The third roundabout at Castleisland will be stewarded. Riders must take the correct way around The final roundabout at the bridge in Killorglin is a raised dot. It will be stewarded and it can be taken on either side. There is a long low traffic divider on the lead in to the roundabout. Photo 6: Final roundabout at Killorglin Bridge 300m to go approx.
