The Aggies will then host Boise State and travel to Alabama in the following weeks... Those three teams have a combined 11-3 record with Fresno State receiving votes (equivalent of #28) and Alabama ranked sixth in this week's AP poll... USU is 2-2 for just the second time in the last eight years... USU will be making its first trip to the state of California since playing at Fresno State in 2001. Prior to that, the Aggies' last trip to the Golden State was at San Jose State in 1995... This week's game marks USU's third straight 'homecoming game' as it was homecoming at Idaho two weeks ago and in Logan last week... USU will be looking to win consecutive games for the first time since Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, 2003. ON THE AIR -- All Utah State football games are carried on the Aggie Radio Network with Al Lewis calling the play-by-play and Ken Beazer providing analysis this week. Saturday's game will not be televised. (Note: No nicknames for announcers unless requested). RADIO SHOW ON CAMPUS -- The weekly Brent Guy radio show, which is sponsored by Fazoli's Restaurant, hosted by Al Lewis and broadcast on KVNU 610 AM in Logan each Thursday from 6-6:45 p.m., will be held at different locations on campus this season in an effort to get the students more involved in the program. Fazoli's will provide an entree for $2 at each location. On Thurs., Oct. 13, the show will be held at the new library on campus. The public is invited. RECOGNIZING THE 11 -- Utah State's football team is wearing decals to recognize the 11 individuals from the College of Agriculture that were involved in a tragic van accident on Monday, Sept. 26. Eight students and one instructor were killed in the accident. The logo is a yellow block letter 'A' inside a blue circle and is worn on the back right of the helmet. LAST TIME OUT -- Kevin Robinson scored three touchdowns, including an 87- yard punt return to lead Utah State to a 24-17 win against San Jose State. The Aggies held a 24-17 lead after Justin Hamblin kicked a 33-yard field goal with 8:10 left in the third quarter. The visiting Spartans rallied, scoring later in the third and then kicking a field goal with 1:18 left to trail 24-17. The Spartans recovered the ensuing onside kick and reached the USU 29-yard line before a sack by John Chick and two straight incomplete passes ended the game. Robinson ignited the Aggies by scoring on an 87-yard punt return late in the first quarter. The return tied him for the school record with three career punt returns for scores. The 87-yarder was also the third longest in school history behind his own 90-yard return last year against Troy and a 90-yard return by Dale Leathem in 1950. For the game Robinson caught a team-best five passes for 91 yards and two scores, while he also led the team in rushing with three attempts for 46 yards. He returned six punts for 105 yards. Jackson connected on 17 of 26 passing attempts for two touchdowns and 200 yards. Tony Pennyman was on the receiving end of five of those completions as he recorded 56 receiving yards. Defensively Matt Wiser posted a team-best 12 tackles while Jake Hutton had nine stops and D.J. Brookter recorded eight tackles. UP NEXT -- USU returns home to host Boise State on Oct. 22 at 4:35 p.m. The game will be televised in the state of Utah on KJZZ (channel 14). www.utahstateaggies.com

Guy was an assistant coach (linebackers) at Utah State from 1992-94 under then head coach Charlie Weatherbie. During that time, USU posted its only bowl victory in school history, claiming the 1993 Las Vegas Bowl. Guy has been involved in eight bowl games in 19 years as a collegiate assistant coach. Previous stops include Oklahoma State (1986-91 - graduate assistant 1986-87, recruiting coordinator 1988, linebackers 1989-91), Utah State (1992-94 - linebackers), Oklahoma State (1995-97 - linebackers), Boise State (1998-2000 - defensive coordinator) and Arizona State (2001-04 - defensive coordinator) before being named the Aggies' 25th head coach in December of 2004. Captains for the Fresno State game are OT Donald Penn, WR Tony Pennyman, DE John Chick, and LB Jake Hutton. A complete list of captains is available later in this release. USU-FRESNO STATE SERIES -- Fresno State leads the all-time series by a narrow 10-9-1 count, including an 8-2-1 advantage in games played in Fresno (USU leads at home 7-2). The teams played on an annual basis when both were members of the Big West Conference from 1978-93. The schools last played on Dec. 1, 2001 in a game that was moved due to 9/11 (originally scheduled for Sept. 15). Fresno State won that contest 70-21. Utah State's best stretch in the series was a five-game winning streak from 1955 through 1981. Since then the Bulldogs have captured eight of the 12 games with one tie. USU head coach Brent Guy was an assistant at USU when the Aggies lost 30-14 at Fresno State in 1993, while TE coach Danilo Robinson was a freshman defensive end for USU. USU-FSU LAST TIME -- USU closed its 2001 season losing to then 21st-ranked Fresno State 70-21 in a game that was moved from Sept. 15 to Dec. 1 due to 9/11. The Bulldogs scored 28 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 56-14 halftime lead. Heisman Trophy candidate David Carr threw for 432 yards and six touchdowns while hitting 21 of 27 attempts to lead the Bulldogs. For USU, Jose Fuentes threw for 238 yards and two scores, while David Fiefia, playing in place of the injured Emmett White, rushed for 116 yards on 16 carries. Nick Onaindia finished his career by recording 12 tackles, including four for loss. USU recorded 332 yards of total offense, but the Bulldogs amassed 713 yards, including 469 through the air. USU-FSU NOTE-ABLE -- USU lists 38 players on its roster from the state of California, including Fresno products S Joe Lindsay (Edison HS), WR Kevin Robinson (Hoover HS), and LB D.J. Brookter (Bullard HS/Fresno JC). Robinson ranks in the top 32 nationally in three different categories (see next page), while Brookter has started each of the last two games and has recorded a combined 13 tackles in that time. Lindsay, who has not played this year due to injury, was the team's top sophomore in 2005. DID YOU KNOW? -- Saturday's game will be USU's first on natural grass this season.

The last time USU defeated a team that was receiving votes, as Fresno State is this week, was a 21-17 win at Utah in 1997. SEVENTEEN FRESHMEN HAVE SEEN ACTION -- Seventeen different freshmen have played this season, including seven that have earned starts. Here is a look (starters marked with an *): Offense - TB Ryan Bohm*, OT Derek Hoke*, FB Lynwood Johnson*, WR Otis Nelson*, OL Ryan Tonnemacher, QB Jerod Walker Defense - DL Ben Calderwood, CB Marquise Charles*, LB Daryl Fields, LB Devon Hall*, LB Bevan Howard, LB Jake Hutton*, S Cameron Luke, LB Clay Swan, S Caleb Taylor Special Teams - Rob Myers, Bryan Perkinson RUSHING LEADERS -- Through four games, USU's leading rusher each week has been a player other than a running back. In the season opener QB Leon Jackson ran for a team-best 87 yards, while TB Ryan Bohm rushed for 56 yards. Against UNLV, WR Kevin Robinson had three carries for 29 yards while Bohm had 21 yards. At Idaho, Jackson went for 74 yards on the ground, while Chris Forbes led the running backs with 59 yards. Last Saturday, Robinson carried three times for 46 yards, while Jackson ran for 36 and the top running back was Forbes with 15 yards. RUSHING LEADERS TWO -- It is early, but QB Leon Jackson III leads the team in rushing with 185 yards on the ground (TB Ryan Bohm is second with 95 yards) and no quarterback has led USU in rushing in a season (statistics available back to 1957). The school record for yards rushing in a season by a quarterback is 273 by Ron Edwards in 1964 and Jackson needs just 89 yards in the team's next seven games to surpass that mark. DYNAMIC DUO -- WR Kevin Robinson and WR Tony Pennyman have been a dynamic duo for the Aggies so far this season. Pennyman leads the WAC in two statistical categories and ranks in the top 25 in the country in three categories. Robinson leads the league in one category and is in the top 32 of three statistical rankings. Here is a look: Tony Pennyman -- Leads the WAC and the NCAA in kickoff return average at 44.50 and is first in the WAC and 11th nationally in receptions with 7.33 per game. He also ranks second in the WAC and 24th nationally in all-purpose yardage at 139.00 per game. He leads the team with 22 catches for 242 yards and one touchdown despite missing the Utah game to a suspension. Best game this year was against UNLV when he recorded 10 receptions for 97 yards and one touchdown. Also added a kickoff return for a score against the Rebels. Kevin Robinson -- Leads the WAC in all-purpose yardage and ranks 21st in the country at 143.00... Ranks second in the league in punt returns and is 18th nationally at 13.58 and ranks third in the WAC and 32nd nationally in scoring at 9.00 points per game. He has 12 receptions for 163 yards and a team-best four touchdowns. Last week against San Jose State he tied a school record with his third career punt return for a touchdown. Has scored six touchdowns in the last three games including four receiving scores on his 10 receptions in that time. Had three scores against San Jose State last Saturday (two receptions and one punt return). 2-2 START -- Utah State has started its season 2-2 for the second straight year, but just the second time in the last eight years. In those last eight seasons USU has started 1-3 five times and 0-4 once. After last year's 2-2 start the Aggies lost six straight before finishing 3-8, but in 1996 and 1997, the Aggies were even after four games and finished with winning records (1996 went 6-5 and in 1997 went 6-5 in the regular season before losing its bowl game and finishing 6-6).
