The DVD is in production through FSU and should be done by the end of the semester. We are moving toward having parental information all digital, with instructional programs, etc. on what the schools and ISD offer. They will be approving their review bylaws at their next meeting. B. P.T.O. Michelle Gabalis They are holding their annual rummage sale on Saturday, April 14, 2012. C. Director of Finance Trudi Green Trudi gave the treasurers financial report. We were told that our insurance would probably go up 15% so she has requested new proposals to consider. There will be approval items at the next meeting.

CCA Board Meeting for April 12, 2012 pg. 2 D. K-6 Principal Kendall Schroeder April is Poetry month and we have had professional poets here this week visiting our classrooms and the kids have enjoyed them. They are FSU teaching staff inspiring our students to get excited about writing. It was enjoyable for the kids and yet educational. We had some writers and readers here today K-8. It has been a great dovetail with our reading month activities. As already mentioned, PTO is holding their annual rummage sale this coming Saturday, April 14 in the HS gym from 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. E. MS/HS Principal Lynn Gullekson (Ross Meads was away coaching Girls Soccer) Reported Ross just sent a text in to our meeting that the girls have won their soccer game and are still undefeated. We held an assembly on texting which was covered by the Pioneer, and very well received by our students. Thank you to Dave Hojnacki for handling the setup and arrangements to make this assembly possible. Thank you! Lynn gave an update on our most recent ACT results. F. Superintendent Lynn Gullekson The MOISD will be holding an MOISD-wide mileage vote; which if passed will bring CCA an allotted $50,000 to be used towards MOP co-op services, etc. It would be a good way to increase our revenues, so we want to encourage people to vote. Parent University was excellent again with great speakers, though we had a low turn out. We would like to get the state trooper to speak for our Fall Back To School Night on the bullying issue for our parents and students. The Big Rapids Fire Department will be using our two houses for practice training prior to our demolition. This is a great opportunity for them, and for us to benefit our community. We have asked the Pioneer to cover the training, and for the fire department to inform the surrounding neighbors. Thank you to the visiting poet group who were here this week with our students, and poet Foster Neill who coordinated the activities. G. GVSU Bob Fortin You have all received a summary of the GVSU Contract Amendment to be approved at your next regular board meeting. You also received our new three year calendar, and your Annual Conflict of Interest form to be filled out and turned in by June. The Tiger Game outing is scheduled for Sunday, June 3. Jim Woolen noted that June 3 is CCA s graduation day. 6. Consent Agenda Items: A. Minutes: March 8, 2012 and Closed Session March 8, 2012 B. CCA Board Meeting for April 12, 2012 pg. 3 2. Education Committee Report & Recommendations: Kemi Fadayomi stated that they met and had great discussion. The Teacher Institute in June will be addressing the deficiencies discovered through the MEAP results. 3. Finance Committee Report & Recommendations: a. Award Demolition Bid to Fenstermacher Paving We are very comfortable that the demolition will be done well and they were the lowest bid on the bid specifications. to award the demolition bid to the lowest bidder, Fenstermacher Paving. Motion carried. 4. Approve Resolution for Property Purchase to approve the Resolution for Property Purchase of 217 W. Pine Street, Big Rapids, MI as presented. Motion carried. It was noted that the house on the property was burned down, and there is a carriage house still standing that will be used for storage. 5. Approve girls Softball Self-Funded Sport After a survey, there was a lot of student interest. Staff member, Amanda Brown is the coach, and she has a lot of experience. Tonight is their first game. They ran fundraisers for the sport, and she will take as her stipend whatever is left after all season expenses have been covered. In answer to a question it was noted that the usual coaching stipend at CCA is $3,000 for a season. This sport could be used as a recruiting tool as well. It will be considered a first year pilot sport. Kemi stated that we have people interested in tennis. What is the guideline to starting a sport at CCA? Students to A.D., HS Principal, Superintendent, to Board is the usual procedure. Is there a guideline as to who we say yes to for bringing it to the board for approval? We piloted football for about 2 to 3 years. Once it s a pilot there is an expectation created. We just need to know what our guidelines are. What do we do when interest is shown? There is a sports limit in the budget already. In the past they start this way before becoming official. The A.D. has asked for it to be included in next year s budget to see where it falls. Motion was made by Kemi Fadayomi, seconded by Kathy Lake, to approve Girls Softball as a self-funded sport for one year. Then we will re-evaluate. Motion carried.

CCA Board Meeting for April 12, 2012 pg. 4 Jimmie asked how does this interface with our pay to participate policy. It isn t affected because its not official as a pilot sport. In fact the athletes have paid it all themselves, not the school, and a parent has donated a substantial amount to get the program running. We are using the local softball fields for practice and games. Other issues were discussed in relationship to the sport, but should not be affected as it is not an official CCA sport at this time. 6. Approve 2012-2013 Calendar K-12 Lynn noted that our only deviation from the M-OISD area wide calendar will be on 11/16/12. They have it scheduled for professional development, and we will have school that Friday. We will have Martin Luther King Day off this year instead, as we are going to honor the many parent requests we have received. MLK Day will be a professional development day for our teachers. to approve the 2012-2013 Calendar for K-12. Motion carried. 7. Approve Ross Meads Varsity boys Soccer Coach 8. Discussion/Information/First Reading Items: None 9. Board Member Round Table Discussion Jimmie Rodgers has concerns; which are no reflection on his job stepping up as Principal. We are in tough times academically, discipline issues, etc. Just don t want to see his time in any way divided from the academic and lose sight of what he s doing. Coaching requires time and focus as well. He s done a great job. Just have concerns and will leave it at that. Motion was made by Kemi Fadayomi, seconded by Kathy Lake, to approve Ross Meads as Varsity Boys Soccer Coach. Motion carried with 4 Ayes and 1 Naye. Jimmie Rodgers: No comments. We re leaving Saturday and will plan to see you all in person next time rather than virtually. Kemi Fadayomi: The FSU Faculty Association gave me a check for $200 to deliver to CCA. I have been helping them come to understand that CCA is a public school and that they should be supporting CCA as well as Big Rapids schools. So they gave me the check to bring. Kathy Lake: Krissy Workman: Jim Woolen:
