BUZZ } TSU men s basketball has been gaining interest at the local and national levels. } A four-person dunk sequence featuring a passes from Tripp Davis, Donte Fitzpatrick- Dorsey, Kamar McKnight and Emmanuel Egbuta on photo day gained more than two million views on twitter and instagram. } A dunk from Egbuta in the Oct. 31 exhibition game was also picked up by SportsCenter s snapchat. } At TSU s Big Blue Madness, Head Coach Brian Penny Collins dunked twice, including a windmill, creating a buzz on social media. DESERVE TO WIN } First-year TSU Head Coach Brian Penny Collins has dubbed Deserve to Win the theme for this year s team. } It is a philosophy that encompasses every aspect of the program from work in the weightroom to how the coaches and student-athletes interact with the community. WHY PENNY? } Head Coach Brian Penny Collins got his name as a kid. Collins, born in Memphis, moved to Nashville as a young pre-teen. In honor of his favorite college and NBA player, Penny Hardaway who played in his hometown, Collins would sport the Magic jersey while on the court. The name stuck. } Collins claims both Memphis and Nashville as his hometown, as he was born in one, and raised in the other. SEASONED } The Tigers have seven players with experience on the Division I level. In his first season as head coach of the TSU men s basketball program, Collins introduced one true freshman in Monty Johal, three junior-college transfers and two transfers who are ineligible to compete this season due to NCAA rules. } Nine Tigers have postseason experience as the Tigers have gone to the conference tournament for the last three years, and Ole Miss (Fitzpatrick-Dorsey) and La Tech (Washington) have received invites to the NIT.
