SUSSEX SCHOOLS SPORTS ACROBATICS & GYMNASTICS COMPETITION December 2017: A 26 strong team of students from Ark Helenswood Academy travelled to Eastbourne for the annual Sussex Schools Sports Acrobatics and Gymnastics Competition last weekend. With over 200 entries from schools across East and West Sussex the battle was on. The standard was high this year and the team were determined to try to defend their title and continue to build on the success of previous years. Led by current year 13 students Ellie Poole, Lucy Bailey and Chloe Vincent the girls gave some exceptional performances resulting in a medal haul of 27 gold, 15 silver and 8 bronze, as well as the Advanced Compositional Group Trophy and the Overall Team Trophy. In the section A Novice pairs category Gracie Turnbull and Rubie Morton Davage finished in first place with Deanna Buenevente and Tashane Miller in a close second. In the Section B pairs, Eleanor Holman and Leah Gartside took gold, Mia Smith and Rubie Morton Davage, silver and Leanna Hall and Kiera Jayne Taylor, bronze. In the Regional Pairs Lucy Bailey and Tamsin Poole claimed gold, Sophie Vincent and Chloe Vincent, silver and Ellie Poole and Phoebe Harris finished in third. In the Advanced pairs Lillie Ledsham and Abi Cole finished first, Rhia Pegge and Lauren McCann, second and Amber Francis and Zoe Mills, third. In the trio sections Leanna Hall, Mia Smith and Kiera Jayne Taylor claimed gold and Eleanor Holman, Leah Gartside and Rubie Morton Davage took silver. Ellie Poole, Lucy Bailey and Tamsin Poole claimed gold in both their Sports Acrobatics and their Compositional trios against stiff opposition. In the individual events Gracie Turnbull took second in the Year 7 Basic category and Sophie Vincent, Mia Smith and Zoe Mills claimed gold, silver and bronze respectively in the Year 8+ Basic category. Chloe Vincent, Amber Francis and Maddie Ralph finished in first, second and third in the Intermediate category and Ellie Poole and Tamsin Poole finished in the top two spots in the Advanced category. The girls were an absolute delight to watch and a credit to the academy: Congratulations girls and thank you for your hard work and commitment.
