Vassallo RACE 1: Granite Town Festival Class 2 Handicap 1200m: Manner Sensation Slow to begin. Annie Pru A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Dashie De Luxe Slow to begin. Held up making the home turn and on straightening was shifted out across heels to continue into clear running. Catch The Culprit Near the 1000m was eased off the heels of A Snip of Cyndy (J Grisedale) which shifted in when not clear. J Grisedale was advised to exercise more care. Held up until approaching the 200m. Background Scalper On jumping was bumped by A Snip of Cyndy which shifted out and was then crowded out onto Megawatt. When questioned regarding the gelding racing more forward today, B Ward stated that with the blinkers on today, he was instructed to attempt to take up a position on the speed if possible. Co-trainer K Dryden was reminded of his obligation to notify of any change in riding tactics. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A Snip of Cyndy Held up making the home turn. RACE 2: Bay Bargain Shoes Maiden Handicap 1200m: Gay Skier Slow to begin. Darryl N Fred (NZ) The gelding was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12.26pm after it was found to have aggravated a lesion underneath its jaw. Trainer J Marzol was advised a veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding being presented to race again. Romance Can Costa Began awkwardly.
2 Nunya Bizz Had difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 200m. Making the first turn was checked off the heels of Iolanta which lost ground when racing greenly. In this incident the gelding shifted out and made contact with Lookin Alive which in turn made contact with Smart Remark. Sonnets Began awkwardly. Near the 900m was checked off the heels of Nunya Bizz when overracing. Over the concluding stages was checked after improving onto the heels of Lookin Alive. La Firebird (NZ) The mare which refused to load was a late withdrawal by order of the Stewards at 1.20pm. Subsequently it was directed that all monies invested on the mare be refunded and all successful bets with bookmakers be subject to the following deductions: 1 st Nunya Bizz 1c win, 2c place 2 nd Smart Remark 1c place 3 rd Bella Amante 1c place Trainer Ms C Hill was advised that the mare must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Snowy River Run A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding that was beaten 19L revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms N Jarvis was advised a warning would be recorded against the gelding. Bella Amante Began awkwardly and made contact with Lookin Alive. When questioned App B Ryan stated he was instructed to take up a position with cover just behind the speed. He added after beginning awkwardly and being hampered he was then obliged to settle further back than intended. He stated that his mount raced greenly and was continually off the bit throughout the middle stages and leaving the 600m he commenced to urge his mount along however it was not until shortly after straightening when brought to the outside that his mount then commenced to respond and once balanced up ran to the line strongly. RACE 3: Adelaide Hotel Good Sports 2yo Handicap 1010m: Appetizing On an assurance from Trainer J Austin that he had made application on acceptance day to remove the blinkers from the gelding, the Stewards permitted the gelding to race without that gear. The Stewards adjourned the matter. Raced wide throughout. Stone Cold Slow to begin. Lay in under pressure in the straight. Canford Lad Raced wide throughout. Seealla Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly under pressure in the straight. Better Than Elle Began awkwardly and lost ground (2L). Near the 800m was shifted out across the heels of Denesc. Denesc Slow to begin. Vigorish Slow to begin.
3 Lost Without You Change of tactics to be ridden further back; settled on pace, raced fiercely throughout. Cherry Princess As S Miller was unable to make the weight, Stewards permitted A Layt to be substituted as the rider of the filly. S Miller was fined $250 (AR120(b)). RACE 4: Ezywear Narooma Maiden Plate 1650m: Sheboygan Change of tactics to be more forward; led. Dreamship Trainer N Olive was fined $100 for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identity Card when requested (AR59A). Mr Olive was advised that the filly would not be permitted to race again until such time that he can present the Thoroughbred Identity Card. When questioned B Ward stated that he was instructed if possible to take up a position on the speed however his mount was slowly away. He added whilst his mount was obliged to travel wide, the filly was inclined to lay in from the 500m and proved difficult to fully test in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off-hind. Trainer N Olive advised there had been no issues with the filly leading into today s event and it had pleased in its work since its 3 rd placing at Wagga on 26 th June 2017. Mr Olive was advised a veterinary clearance is required prior to the filly racing again. Sunday Hustler Change of tactics- to race with cover if possible; caught wide early, raced outside leader. Rider M Travers was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the line. Ohiyesa Overraced in the middle stage when obliged to race wide. Everly Girl Lay in under pressure in the straight. La Vitesse Rush - Near the 200m was eased off the heels of Sheboygan which shifted in slightly. Morning Music Near the 450m was restrained when crowded between Ohiyesa which shifted in slightly and Satin Silks (P Wells) which shifted out to improve. P Wells was reprimanded (AR137(a)). RACE 5: Moorings Resort 65 Handicap 1425m: No Pushover (NZ) Trainer L Pepper was fined $50 for the late application to remove the tongue tie from the mare s approved gear (AR140). Shoulder Charge Overraced in the middle stages. Held up making the home turn. Carluca Knuckled badly on jumping and lost ground (4L). Carried wider near the 1000m by Shoulder Charge which shifted out when overracing. Ms J Taylor was fined $300 for failing to ride her mount out to the line (AR137(b)). In assessing penalty the Stewards considered Ms Taylor s exemplary record in that she had not previously offended under this rule but also the margin of a head between her mount and Shoulder Charge which was placed fourth. A postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
4 Akiko Gold Overraced in the middle stages. The Nickster Change of tactics to be more forward led. RACE 6: East Coast Radio Benchmark 55 Handicap 1300m: Out of the Night Raced wide throughout. Mackellar Slow to begin. Jorgeus Lay in under pressure in straight. Raced ungenerously for some distance in the early stages. Rushman Raced wide throughout. Bruadar The gelding underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival on course and was passed suitable to race. Held up making the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Bay Truffle Raced wide throughout. Near the 1000m was steadied when crowded by Jorgeus which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider when racing ungenerously. Depreciation Held up and could not obtain clear running until approaching the 200m. Hectic Overraced in the middle stages. Near the 900m was checked off the heels of Mackellar. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Excellent Oratorio Began awkwardly. RACE 7: Thorotek Racing Benchmark 55 Handicap 1010m: Brockton Punch Trainer T Sergi was fined $50 for the late declaration of App Ms K Rayner as the rider of the gelding (LR35). When questioned concerning her riding, App K Rayner stated that as her mount has a tendency to race keenly, she was instructed to ride it with cover. She added from her wide barrier she eased her mount in the early stages and took up a trailing position behind Fire and Flood. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to improve around Fire and Flood and commence her run leaving the 600m, App Rayner stated as her mount had raced keenly and in her opinion has a short sprint, she was reluctant to expose her mount too early and felt it she had of commenced a wide run at that stage she would have been taken particularly wide on straightening. She added after tracking Alone With You making the home turn, she then attempted to improve into a developing run between Alone With You and Fire and Flood, however when both runners shifted slight ground she was then disappointed for that run near the 200m. She added as a result she was then obliged to shift to the extreme outside to obtain clear running where her mount then responded strongly. Blue Blue Sky App A Williams reported that his mount travelled fairly early however prior to straightening his mount became awkward in its action and failed to respond thereafter.
