CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR MEMBERS AT THE SYDNEY NORTHERN BEACHES BRANCH AWARDS: Michael Gedz who was awarded Sydney Northern Beaches Master Competitor of the Season 2013/2014 Robyn Holt was awarded the President s Award for her tireless and hard working efforts to Surf Life Saving. All of our Patrolling Members as we finished in 6 th place in the patrol competition. PETER DALEY Peter Daley has been wrestling with a bone marrow problem for almost 8 months now. After a worldwide search for a compatible donor they secured two potential Australian donors. Over the past four weeks he has had two periods of a week each where he was admitted to RNS and kept in an isolation ward due to the effect of two bugs and his inability to ward them off without medical help. His specialist has him booked in for a bone marrow transplant on 3 July 2014. The whole procedure is quite involved and he will be in hospital for approximately 4 weeks following intensive chemotherapy and the transplant process. For the most part Peter has maintained his own, super positive outlook on life and he continues to await the days when he can enjoy a couple of Bundys, a few Crownies and a lot of seafood with his family and friends. We all wish him well and our support extends to Cherie, Kelly, Damian and the rest of his family.
VALE - PETER WALKADEN. Last Saturday, Peter Walkaden passed away in Gympie, Queensland. Peter, known in the Club as Young Nama joined Queenscliff Surf Club in 1960 as a cadet. Peter was a natural sportsman and won the Junior Surf Club title in the Club in the 1960 s. Peter represented Queenscliff in many carnivals competing in Surf, Belt and Boat races. Peter was an extremely popular member of the Club and a very talented sportsman. He represented Manly Warringah League in the Junior representative teams. Peter was called up in the National Service Ballot and served his Country in both Malaysia and Vietnam. Having signed up for another two years to serve in Vietnam. Upon his return from Vietnam, Peter maintained his membership with Queenscliff until a short time later he moved out of the area finally settling in Gympie. Peter will be sadly missed by his extended family, Wendy, Lynn, Helen, Trevor, Warren and Phillip and their respective families. Our thoughts and prayers go to the family. Rest in Peace ADVANCE RESUSCITATION COURSE An "Advance resuscitation and techniques " (ARTC) training course is planned to commence in the 2nd week of August 2014. What probably is not well known is that this license agreement, whilst it provides exclusive but conditional use for the upstairs sections of the pavilion and on the ground floor for the following areas: the boat and gym area; the board and ski storage rooms; the courtyard; the nipper board storage room and the shower and change rooms, it does not provide exclusive use of the downstairs toilets, kitchen, entrance way and hall. These facilities are managed by Manly Council and as a club we have the responsibility to ensure that these areas are kept free of equipment and materials belonging to the club.
Unfortunately and with no doubt good intention, members have accessed the downstairs kitchen and placed locks on cupboard doors. Other members have used the downstairs kitchen and hall to park their bicycles and sometime even their motor scooter. We have also placed tents, gym gear and boat trailers in the entrance way. Manly Council have rightly raised their concerns about these practices and requested the club take action to remove all equipment and materials from the shared areas of the pavilion. This has been done and now its up to all members to ensure we do not repeat the in appropriate usage of the shared facilities. SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE CART Queenscliff SLSC are calling for expressions of Interest from Queenscliff Club members, to operate the Sunday morning Coffee Cart for the 2014/15 Summer Nipper Season. Expressions of interest are required by 16 th July and should be sent to Craig Susans via email on craig57queensie@gmail.com Notice of Annual General Meeting The Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club will hold its 2014 Annual General Meeting at the Club on Sunday, 3 rd August 2014 commencing at 11 am.
