DGSC APRIL MONTHLY NEWS Volume 12, Issue 4 From The President s Desk: Q1 is over and looking at the preliminary figures, we did alright. With the mild weather, shooting revenues were higher than forecasted and we were able to stay within our budget on expenses. For the second time in 6 months, White Flyer has raised the price of their targets. While I do not see the need for an increase in shooting fees, it is very important that everyone do their best to keep lost targets to a minimum. That means no extra noise while using the voice activated fields and no extra birds during a round. April begins our summer hours. On Tuesdays, the club will stay open till 5:00pm. There will be a Tuesday afternoon league along with open Trap/Skeet shooting. Friday nights we will be open 6:00-10:00pm. There will be open shooting along with games that start at 7:00. Games will be the same as last year, $14/shooter which includes a money bird and a hot dog. I tried to organize a Friday night trap league but had no takers. We'll try again in the fall. Our first ATA shoot is May 19th & 20th. The Exxon "Shoot for A's" fundraiser is June 2nd. We need volunteers for both events. Please try to come out and help. Chuck Feuillan Vice President Remarks: Remember badges are available at the counter, please make sure to pick up your badge, and when you do please make sure to have your FOID/NRA cards with you, if you had an expired card or didn t include a copy with your renewal the counter will need to make a copy of your current valid cards before giving you your badge. If you have any problems with your badge please contact myself of Debra for help. Tom Palmer Youth/Community Relations: MEETING DATE CHANGE Saturday April 14th DGSC will have a Youth Shoot and Family Meeting. This is a good way for those that were involved with the DGSC Heartland Flyers to get back out to DGSC and introduce new young shooters. Shooting will be at 1pm and a meeting with coaches, family & shooters at 3pm. If you d like to get involved please come on out Sat April 14th, if you know anyone that might be interested please pass the information along. The youth team has been given 250 lb of reclaimed lead from Ron Dinning who has shot at the club but is not a member - he was impressed with our youth program - Thank You Ron! 2 new outing requests at DGSC: 10 couples on April 21 (Saturday) would like to come out for the day and learn about trap shooting and the other on Sept 14 (Thursday) is Illinois Fertilizers Dealers for 50 or more. DGSC Range officers and/or certified instructors are always part of these outings, if you interested in helping out on these days please contact me. Dan Bellus

We have later hours on Tuesday, a SC league on Thurs nights, Friday Nights, and Sat and Sun - if you can spare 1 day a month to help out on any of the days/times the club is open, let Larry know. A few more bodies will help. We are getting new shooters at times so be watchful and remember all members are Range Officers. If you notice they need help take it upon yourself and go out there and assist them. We want to keep them save and have a good time and come back to our club. This is how we grow and have a reputation as a friendly club. PAGE 3 DGSC NEWS NETWORK VOLUME 12, ISSUE 4 NRA Updates: Mayor Emanuel continues to push legislation to divert attention from actual criminals. Bills currently proposed include the following: *HB 5831 A statewide $65 registration fee per handgun with a $25 renewal fee every five years. The exec committee changed the proposed fees to $25 and $20 for renewals *HB 5167 A statewide 2% sales tax on ammunition The following 3 bills were introduced by Rep. Edward Acevedo: *HB 1294 Bans many semi automatic firearms including.50 cal. *HB 1599 Classifies many semi automatic firearms as assault weapons. It creates enhanced felony penalties for possession of ammunition of 50. cal. or higher or high capacity ammunition. *HB 1855 will make victims of a firearm theft a criminal if they fail to report the theft within 72 hours. Several other anti-gun bills have been introduced in the House: *HB 3809 makes it a crime to transfer a firearm to a "known gang member." *HB 4149 requires all private firearm sales go through a FFL dealer. *HB 4457 increases penalties for those carrying firearms without a FOID Many of this bills target your 2nd amendment rights and not the criminals that unlawfully possess and use firearms. Contact your legislators and voice your objections to those bills. Ken Cechura Local News: IL Department of Natural Resources is attempting to shut down the Buffalo Range Shooting Park near Ottawa, IL. Make your voices heard by contacting IL Dept of Natural Resources, Sen. Sue Rezin, Congressman Adam Kinzinger or The Ottawa Times. More info avail @ club. Herman Welch Passes On Gratitude to Everyone Herman would like to pass on a large Thank You to everyone who has been there for him the last few months. He d also like to pass a on huge thank you for all the donations - We Care, Humane Society and several other organizations are very appreciate of all the donations received. We Care was able to get food out to many needy families and some bags of dog food were passed on by Herman to the Humane Society. THANK YOU! Senior Mbrs Hunting/Fishing News: Hi everyone, another hunting season has come and gone. Our deer harvest was down but bird hunters seemed to have had good success. All in all I would have to say that we had a good year in the field. The way I see it any time that you can get out with your friends and/or family to enjoy the outdoors and get away from life's daily grind by going in the fields with your hunting buddy whether it be man or dog there is no price that you can put on that kind of enjoyment. I hope everyone has a safe and healthy summer and I'll be looking forward to seeing you at the club.
