December Monday 4 th Bring & Win Monday 11 th Christmas Competition Saturday 16 th Carol Night The Committee will endeavour to keep to these Fixtures Lists, but unforeseen circumstances could require changes to be made. Should this occur, notice will be given at the earliest opportunity. JUNIOR GOLF Please see Junior Golf at Rowany for the information on the Junior Section. Juniors who have competition handicaps may play in all senior Club competitions unless otherwise specified by the C&HC for the boys, or the Ladies Committee for the girls. They may also play in sponsored competitions with the agreement of the sponsor. In line with the guidance of England Golf, juniors may play with adults or other juniors in the same category in these competitions. However, under normal circumstances, the Club expects no more than 1 junior in a flight of 3, and no more than 2 in a flight of 4. In team competitions, such as a four-ball better ball format competition, only 1 junior per team is allowed. Juniors entering senior competitions may not accept any prize that includes alcohol. Junior Club Nights will be held each Thursday from end March to end September starting at 4.15pm. Details of other Junior Golf Competitions will appear on the notice board or on the website. Competitions at Rowany General The majority of the (gents) competitions at Rowany are open events, and visitors are very welcome to play in them. Only gents can win these competitions and the main prizes. However, the Club Policy is to also award a prize to the Best Lady and Best Junior, if the number of ladies and juniors who participate numbers 6 or more. The C&HC and Sponsors are, however, at liberty to vary the prizes awarded, and the format of the competitions. The prizes are generally presented at Presentation of Prizes Evenings which are held on the last Wednesday of the month from April through September, and on the final Saturday of the Week of Golf at the end of July. The final Presentation of Prizes Evening of the year is held in December normally on the last Saturday prior to Christmas, when the Winter Leagues play their last matches of the year prior to their winter break. The Club is lucky in that many of the competitions are sponsored, and the Club and its members very much appreciate the continued, and valuable, support given by the sponsors each year. Prize Awards for Low Numbers of Entrants Club s: Where the number of entrants for the main competition is 45 or less the following prizes are awarded: 6 to 15 Entrants: Winner Only 16 to 30 Entrants: Winner and Runner Up 31 to 45 Entrants: Winner, Runner-Up, Third Competitions with less than 6 entries may be declared void. Should this occur with a sponsored competition, the Club s Competition & Handicap Committee (C&HC) may, along with the sponsors, seek an alternative date on which to run the competition. Handicaps Unless otherwise stated, the maximum handicaps are 28 for the Gents and 36 for the Ladies and the handicap allowance is FULL. Competition Closure The C&HC will endeavour to close out competitions by mid-day the day following the competition if practicable. Entry Fees The entry fee for all competitions is 3.00pp.
LOCAL RULES 1. ETIQUETTE All players shall observe the Rules of Golf, and the Rules of Golf Etiquette, and such Local Rules as are published herein, and from time to time on the Club Notice Boards. 2. PRACTICE The area between the 17 th and 18 th fairways, excluding greens and hazards may be used as a practice area at any time. If a player s ball comes to rest on the practice green outside the clubhouse, playing from that area is PROHIBITED and the player MUST take relief under Rule 25-1. 3. OUT OF BOUNDS A ball is out of bounds if: It is over any boundary fence or wall or beyond any line of white stakes defining the boundary of the course. It is within the internal out of bounds area delineated by the white stakes between the 5 th and 6 th fairways, and the 6 th and 7 th fairways, when playing holes 5 and 7. The white stakes defining the internal out of bounds are deemed to be immovable obstructions when playing any hole other than holes 5 and 7 and relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 24-2. 4. STONES IN BUNKERS Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions and may be removed in accordance with Rule 24-1. 5. PREFERRED LIES 11 th HOLE A ball lying on any 'closely mown area' through the green on the 11th hole may, without penalty, be lifted cleaned and placed within six inches of where it originally lay, but not nearer the hole. Closely mown area in this context means the fairway of the 11 th hole only. 6. GROUND UNDER REPAIR Ground under repair is defined by white stakes or lines. Relief MUST be taken in accordance with Rule 25-1. Through the green all tractor wheel marks may be treated as ground under repair. Temporary greens are marked with white lines. When not in play they are deemed to be ground under repair. 7. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS The following are designated as immovable obstructions and relief may be obtained in accordance with Rule 24-2: Fixed sprinkler heads, taps, drainage covers, any trees with attached stakes, plastic sheets around the base of any tree, white posts defining the internal out of bounds except when playing holes 5 and 7. In addition, if a ball lies through the green and an immovable obstruction on or within two club lengths of the putting green and within two club lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follows: The ball must be lifted and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay that (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids intervention and (c) is not in a hazard or on the putting green. 8. MOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS Dog excrement is deemed to be a movable obstruction. A player whose ball is embedded in or touching it may obtain relief in accordance with Rule 24-1. 9. AERATION HOLES ON GREENS If a ball comes to rest in or on an aeration hole on the putting green, the player may, without penalty, place the ball at the nearest spot to where it lies, not nearer the hole, that allows it to avoid the situation. 10. DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES For all play at this course, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect their play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature etc.) the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.
