Felixstowe Rugby Renews its All Schools rugby project with Felixstowe Academy Felixstowe Academy is pleased to have renewed its partnership with the Rugby Football Union and Felixstowe Rugby Club to continue to run the 'All Schools' rugby project as part of its P.E. curriculum. 'All Schools' has been developed by the RFU to increase the amount of rugby in schools, and to encourage new players to join local clubs. The project aims to support schools who introduce Rugby into the curriculum with quality coaching through local rugby development officers. The Academy is delighted to continue working with Felixstowe Rugby Club in delivering this project to students through qualified rugby coach Mr Cook - or as he more fondly known as 'Cookie'. Mr Alston, Academy P.E. teacher has been impressed by the project so far saying, 'Partnering with the RFU and Felixstowe Rugby brings many benefits to students. It ensures they receive good subject knowledge and the specialist coaching means they progress rapidly. It's not just the technical development that has pleased Mr Alston 'Their progress has generated enthusiasm for the sport, with students coming to me interested in forming our own club with fixtures and matches!'
Mr Cook has been involved in delivering smaller rugby taster sessions in schools for many years, but is really pleased to continue to be able to work with the Academy on a longer term project that he hopes will give wider access to the sport to young people. He said, 'The students are really enjoying the sessions and responding well to what is being asked. The RFU want Rugby to be seen as a fun sport, and the project will help to give more students the chance to experience that. I am really enjoying delivering these RFU coaching sessions on behalf of Felixstowe Rugby. Every student has loved it, as Rugby is one of those sports that can encourage a wide range of students to take part. Mr Alston summed up the Academy's aims by adding, 'We want to be able to offer a wide range of sports across the Academy curriculum, and partnering with specialist coaches where possible enables us to offer students top quality teaching.'

Ipswich YM Touch Tournament On Saturday 28th June Felixstowe Rugby Club Seniors participated in a Touch Rugby invitational tournament hosted by Ipswich YM Rugby Club. Despite torrential rain determined to spoil the day, the rugby commenced and spirits were certainly not dampened as all teams played with great spirit and camaraderie. Felixstowe Rugby brought with them enough players to field two teams, which was great to see such enthusiasm. The boys will be in no hurry to brag of their ONE victory over a ladies team... No offence ladies! The hosts of the event were singing the praises of Felixstowe Rugby for bringing their light-hearted and playful antics to the games... and also for drinking the bar dry of cider! A huge thanks to Ipswich YM for organising a great day of rugby and also thanks to all teams involved.
