Frozen Fest Coming - Saturday, December 13th! The KidSkate/CanSkate/ StarSkate/Primary Element Event is an initiative developed by Skate Canada in support of the organization s ongoing implementation of the Long-Term Athlete Development Model. The event has been formatted to introduce participants to the competition component of sport while providing them with the opportunity to showcase their skills in a fun and interactive environment. The focus of the event is on individual skill improvement and therefore performances are not ranked. Instead of the traditional podium presentations for placing first, second and third, all skaters receive a certificate indicating their overall performance levels (Gold, Silver, Bronze or Merit). The award levels are based on the execution and assessment of four individual elements performed in a circuit format (Star 1-4) and element performance (Stage 5-6). Each element is evaluated using three predetermined performance features. Each skater receives a full overview of his/her performance on a performance standards chart which is provided to the skater along with the award certificate. FROZEN FEST Fest SCHEDULE CATEGORY SPECIFICATIONS To be released at a later date. Please watch the LSC website at www.lethbridgeskating. com for schedules and updates. This is an all day event. ** All skaters must arrive at the arena no later than 30 minutes prior to their warm-up times. Overall performance award certificates are presented approximately 30 minutes following their completion of each event group and will take place in Nicholas Sheran Lobby. The following categories will be included in the Kid- Skate/CanSkate/StarSkate & Primary Element Event: STAGE 1: Must NOT have passed the complete Stage 1 badge STAGE 2: MUST have passed Stage 1 but NOT the complete Stage 2 badge STAGE 3: MUST have passed Stage 2 but NOT the complete Stage 3 badge STAGE 4: MUST have passed Stage 3 but NOT the complete Stage 4 badge (Cont d next page) PAGE 3

At this time, we would like to get an idea who will be available to take part in our Circus on Ice show. In the next few weeks carnival committee members may approach you at the rink and ask you to fill out a carnival commitment form. This will indicate whether or not your child will be involved in the show and what size clothing they wear. This information is extremely important to plan for the correct amount of groups and costumes. There will also be plenty of opportunities for volunteering, and will require all the volunteers we can get to make this show successful. Again, please watch the bulletin boards/website for further information of ways you can help. Thank you from the Carnival Committee! carnival@lethbridgeskating.com Did You Know... QUESTION: Why are Torvill and Dean so famous? ANSWER: They scored perfect sixes. In the previous juding system, they received 12 6.0s (one from each judge) for their routine. 6.0 is the highest you can score. This score included artistic impression scores of 6.0 from every judge. The score they received made the pair the highest scoring figure skaters of all time (for a single programme). PAGE 5
