Birdie Buzz Hi everyone, A big thank you from the Ladies Golf Committee to everyone who played in the charity golf day and those who donated prizes or money. Both days were a great success and the committee will let you know how much money was made in due course. Christmas is just around the corner and once again CCJ would like to give toys to some underprivileged children. If you would like to contribute a toy, please bring it wrapped and marked whether it is for a girl or boy and the age to the ladies Christmas invitation on 21st November. For those of you who took part in the Sanlam Cancer Challenge, you might be interested to know that more than R4 million was donated to CANSA by the organisers of the competition. CCJ won the Putter vs Royal at the beginning of October but sadly lost the Plover Cup to Bryanston but at least a CCJ pair, Jeanine and Alan Fraser, had the winning points! LEAGUE Sadly, none of the CCJ teams managed to get through to the semi-finals and finals of the 2018 league season although Lorna s team was tied top in their section but they lost on a count out. However, it would be remiss of us if we didn t give you the final results! The matches were played at RJ&K and the Silver division was won by Houghton who beat Kyalami 1 and after a tough match the victors of the Bronze division were Eagle Canyon who triumphed over Dainfern. Next year we will only be fielding two Silver teams but will continue with four Bronze teams. GENERAL I like to teach people to fix themselves, says John Dickson, our new pro at CCJ s Golf Academy. And he does so using all sorts of equipment and a video which he sends to you after the lesson, so that you can refer to it and go over what you need to fix and how. He has upgraded the existing building at the driving range and has an air-conditioned office area with a large screen on which he shows your video. The three pros at the Golf Academy, John, Byron and Tyran, are all available for lessons and all use the same technique, so if you have had a lesson with Byron and he is not available when you need more help, then John or Tyran can help. Lessons will take place in a covered area which is being built now, next to the driving range. John prefers to give an hour s lesson as he feels that gives him plenty of time to video your swing and discuss it with you as well as using equipment to help you fix your problems. It s not just about hitting loads of balls. But he will do half an hour if you feel that s all you have time for. Byron is planning a program for juniors during the December/January holidays and will let us know his schedule soon. The Golf Academy is offering FREE clinics for ladies on the first Thursday of the month from 9-10am. The first one, on bunker shots, will be on 8th November and the second on 6th December will be on how to read greens. No need to book just rock up.
