The junior right back helped limit the Hens and Dragons to just five combined shots on goal as the Patriots recorded shutouts in consecutive games for the first time since 2004. Salich has started every game this season for Mason and has two assists. BRINE CAA WOMEN S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Jamie Balzarini, UNC Wilmington Fr., GK, Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem Balzarini made nine saves and allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of action as UNC Wilmington split two road matches last week. The freshman goalie stopped four shots and recorded her fifth shutout of the season in the Seahawks 3-0 triumph at Hofstra, which snapped the Pride s 14-game home unbeaten streak. She also had four saves in a narrow 1-0 setback at Northeastern. For the season, Balzarini owns a 0.92 GAA.

The Tribe, which is 10-1-2 overall and on a nine-match unbeaten streak, has been nationally ranked for six straight weeks. Non-Conference Success For CAA Women s Soccer: CAA women s soccer teams performed well in the non-conference portion of the schedule with a combined mark of 53-28-12 (.634). Seven CAA Teams Ranked Regionally by Soccer Buzz: Seven of the CAA s 12 teams are ranked regionally by Soccer Buzz in its October 9 polls. Four conference teams are among 15 ranked in the Mid-Atlantic region with William & Mary at #6, Old Dominion at #8, VCU at #9 and Delaware at #10. In the Northeast region, Northeastern moved up to #5 and Hofstra is ranked #13. UNC Wilmington moved up to #8 in the Southeast Region. Shutting Them Out: An amazing 23 of the 34 CAA matches played thus far have included shutouts, including eight in 10 matches last weekend. Of the nine conference matches played last weekend, nine were decided by just one goal. ODU s Watson Among Nation s Top Scorers: ODU junior Katie Watson is 14th in the nation in goals (0.77 gpg) and 23th in points (1.69 ppg) according to the latest NCAA stats through games of Oct. 8. William & Mary junior Donna Mataya is 16th in goals (0.75 pg). Towson junior goalie Brandi Daniels is 20th in save percentage (.868). Sophomore midfielder Kasie Shover netted the game-winner for the second straight Sunday when her corner kick deflected off the crossbar and into the net in the 72nd minute against TU. Three of Shover s five goals this season have been game-winners and she has scored in three of her past four contests. Shover s goal snapped a streak of nearly four matches since the Blue Hens had scored a goal in regulation dating back to Sept. 24. Goalkeeper Bonnie Mills made two saves against Towson to record her sixth shutout of the season and stopped four shots in the setback to Mason. The six shutouts is tied for fourth on the UD season list. The Hens visit UNCW and Georgia State this weekend. DREXEL (4-8-1 overall, 1-5 in CAA): The Dragons defeated Towson 1-0 on Friday for their first win of the season but lost 2-0 to George Mason on Sunday. Senior forward Stacey Blevins netted the game-winner against the Tigers, placing a shot into the top left corner of the goal from the top of the penalty box in the 47th minute. It was the first goal of the year for Blevins, who ranks fourth in career goals (15) and points at Drexel. Heatherrae and Sherriann Steadman each picked up an assist on the play. Goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond had to make just one save to post her third shutout of the year. The Dragons were held scoreless for the third time in CAA action by Mason, despite a pair of good first-half chances. Drexel is on the road at Georgia State and UNC Wilmington this weekend. UCF The Patriots increased their winning streak to three and recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time all year after beating Delaware (1-0) and Drexel (2-0) on the road last weekend. The consecutive shutouts are the first for Mason since 2004 and the winning streak is also the longest since a four-game run in 2004. Junior defender Laura Salich anchored a Patriots defense that limited the Hens and Dragons to just five combined shots on goal. Goalie Kasey Davenport made two saves in each contest and picked up her fifth and sixth shutouts of the year. Sophomore Nilani Duarte scored the game-winner at UD, knocking in the rebound of Jessie Hart s shot off the crossbar. Mason tallied a pair of secondhalf goals at Drexel as junior L.J. Williams scored her fifth goal of the year off freshman Leslie Cabe s third assist, and junior Rachel Wiggins netted her teamleading seventh goal of the season off an assist from Kelly Keelan. Mason entertains Old Dominion and William & Mary this week. GEORGIA STATE (3-9-3 overall, 0-5-1 in CAA): The Panthers came up on the short end of two more close matches, losing 2-1 at Hofstra and 1-0 at Northeastern. Four of Georgia State s five CAA setbacks have been by just one goal. Senior forward Tenisha Cohen scored her first goal of the season at Hofstra, finding the net from 10 yards out off a perfect pass from senior Amber Collins-Cephers in the 11th minute that tied the contest at 1-1. The goal ended a streak of eight straight home shutouts by the Pride against CAA foes. The Panthers were held scoreless for the sixth time this season in the loss at Northeastern. State s defense has limited 10 of its 15 opponents to two goals or less, but hasn t scored more than two goals in any game this season. The Panthers host Drexel and Delaware this weekend. HOFSTRA (7-6-1 overall, 3-3 in CAA): The Pride topped Georgia State 2-1 on Friday, but saw its 14-game home unbeaten streak snapped with a 3-0 loss to UNC Wilmington on Sunday. Hofstra had been 13-0-1 at home since 2004, including 5-0 this season. Freshman forward Jill Lipari gave the Pride a 1-0 lead just 9:49 into the match with GSU and sophomore midfielder Sara Gulley netted the game-winner on her first career goal with 41 seconds left in the first half. All-CAA midfielder Marie Curtin, who assisted on Lipari s goal, suffered an ankle injury against the Panthers that is expected to sideline her for 2-3 weeks. She is the fourth Hofstra regular to be lost to injury this season and All-America defender Sue Weber is the only healthy starter remaining from last year s CAA championship squad. Hofstra has a challenging week ahead with road matches at James Madison and VCU. JAMES MADISON (5-7-1 overall, 1-3-1 in CAA): The Dukes were beaten 2-1 at Old Dominion on Sunday in their only action of the week. After falling behind 1-0 early, JMU drew even in the 59th minute as freshman Corky Julien scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Twelve of the Dukes 20 goals this season have been registered by freshmen or sophomores, with Julien and fellow rookie Jess Remmes combining for eight. Senior Natalie Ewell picked up her sixth assist on the play, which leads the CAA. JMU has outshot its past two opponent, but suffered one-goal setbacks. After playing a postponed match at William & Mary on Tuesday, the Dukes are at home for four of their final five. JMU hosts Hofstra and Northeastern this weekend. UNC WILMINGTON (9-4 overall, 4-2 in CAA): The Seahawks rebounded from a 1-0 loss at Northeastern on Friday to post an impressive 3-0 victory at Hofstra on Sunday. It was UNCW s first-ever win at Hofstra and snapped the Pride s 14-game home unbeaten streak dating back to 2004. Sophomore forward Kelly Renkin gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute with her team-leading sixth goal of the year, and senior Liz Chriss followed with her first goal just 1:52 later to put UNCW in control. Junior Ashley Church found the net from 30 yards out late in the match for her fifth goal of the

NORTHEASTERN (8-3-2 overall, 4-1-1 in CAA): The Huskies moved into a tie atop the CAA standings with 13 points after a pair of 1-0 victories over UNC Wilmington and Georgia State. With the wins, Northeastern improved to 6-0 at home this season. Junior defender Hannah Schindler netted the game-winner against UNCW in the 43rd minute, scoring her first goal of the season after a scramble in front of the net. Sophomore forward Jenna Lucchesi tallied the game-winning goal against GSU in the 51st minute, banging the ball off the right post from six yards out off an assist from senior Siobhan Howard. The goal was Lucchesi s third of the season. Junior goalkeeper Annie Petrofsky made six saves against the Seahawks and four versus the Panthers to record her league-leading sixth and seventh shutouts of the year. Petrofsky lowered her GAA on the season to 0.89. The Huskies are on the road this weekend at VCU and James Madison. OLD DOMINION (12-1 overall, 4-1 in CAA): The Lady Monarchs extended their winning streak to four with a 2-1 triumph over James Madison on Sunday. Junior goalkeeper Brandi Daniels played well, making four saves against the Hens and five versus the Dragons. She leads the CAA in save percentage (.868) and saves (79) and owns a 0.93 GAA. Towson is back at home this week against William & Mary and Old Dominion. VCU (8-3-2 overall, 4-1 in CAA): The Rams suffered their first CAA loss of the season, dropping a hard-fought 1-0 decision at 18th-ranked William & Mary on Sunday. The setback also ended VCU s seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) that dated back to Sept. 8. VCU had a 12-11 edge in shots and put six of them on net. Megan Flanagan launched a team-high four shots and Pernilla Jansson took three. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Hardison made seven saves, but gave up the game s lone goal in the 66th minute. Hardison ranks third in the CAA with a 0.83 GAA. The Rams have an important week ahead, traveling to Old Dominion on Tuesday before hosting Northeastern and Hofstra over the weekend. Walker lowered her GAA to 0.67, which leads the conference. Sophomore forward Claire Zimmeck had five shots against the Rams, with four of them on goal.
