Using the SkySaver 2.1 Inspections and Storage Inspections The SkySaver Personal Rescue Device and anchor should be inspected every two (2) years by a Competent Person 1 to ensure that there are no defects in the product. Every inspection should be logged in the chart in Appendix E. In the event that any defects are found in either the device or the anchor, do not use the unit and immediately contact SkySaver for further instructions. Storage Store your SkySaver Personal Rescue Device in the plastic sleeve inside of the original product box. The closed box should be stored in a cool and dry area. Avoid exposure to humid or corrosive atmospheres and extreme temperatures. We strongly recommend that you remove your SkySaver from its packaging to try it on, adjust it, and familiarize yourself with the SkySaver. You should put on and take off the unit a number of times until you are confident in its use. DO NOT PULL ON THE CARABINER-STYLE HOOK WHILE FAMILIARIZING YOURSELF WITH THE SKYSAVER. 1 Competent Person: A person who is capable of identifying hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions that have or could impact the integrity of the SkySaver Personal Rescue Device or anchor. With regards to the device such conditions can include but are by no means limited to discoloration of the fabric/webbing; torn stitching or seams; puncture(s) or tear(s) to the backpack or strapping; visible signs of rust. Regarding the anchor such conditions can include but are by no means limited to loosening of the bolt from the wall; and cracks to the wall around the installation site. 10 Using the SkySaver

2.2 Emergency Procedures Please take the time, with your family or co-workers, to make a fire escape plan by following the ten simple steps listed below. Every household or office should have a fire escape plan and a working smoke alarm in each room to help ensure survival in a fire. Begin your plan by regularly checking your smoke alarm to make sure that it is working. A working smoke alarm may save your life. 1. Draw a floor plan of your apartment, office or home. Use a grid to draw a floor plan of your location. You should draw a floor plan for each floor of your location. 2. Include all possible emergency exits. Draw in all walls, doors, windows and stairs. This will show you all possible escape routes at a glance. 3. Include any important features that could help with your escape. Doors and windows are to be noted as the first possible escape routes from your home. Next, identify any other features that could possibly help you get out safely and note them in your plan. 4. Create two escape routes from each room. There is a main exit from every room. This will be the exit to use if there is no apparent danger. If you are unable to use the main exit because of smoke or fire, you must have an alternate exit. The second exit is usually the window. Special consideration should be given to planning escape routes from the bedrooms as most fires occur at night when everyone is sleeping. NEVER OPEN A DOOR WITHOUT CHECKING IT FOR HEAT FIRST. USE THE BACK OF YOUR HAND TO DETERMINE IF THE DOOR IS HOT. Using the SkySaver 11

5. Remember - Some people may need help to escape. Decide in advance who will assist the very young, elderly or physically challenged individuals at your location. A few minutes of planning will save valuable seconds in a real emergency. 6. Choose a place outside where everyone will meet. Select a meeting place that everyone will remember. It is a good idea to choose a spot at the front of your home or close to your neighbor s house. Everyone must know to go directly to this meeting place so that they can be accounted for. NOBODY should go back into a burning building for any reason. 7. Pick a location from where you will call for rescue personnel. 8. Make sure everyone is familiar with the home escape plan. Go over the entire plan with everyone. Discuss primary and secondary escape routes from each bedroom. Ensure that all children know the plan. Walk through the escape routes for each room with the entire family. Use this walk-through exercise to check your escape routes, making sure all exits are practical and easy to use. 9. Practice your escape plan. After reviewing the floor plan with the members of your household or place of employment, conduct a practice run to ensure that everyone knows what to do. Practice your escape plan every six months.in the event of a real fire, you must react without hesitation. Escape routes may be quickly blocked by smoke or flames. Your practice drills will ensure that everyone knows what to do if an emergency evacuation is needed. 10. KEEP YOUR FIRE EXTINGUISHER, SMOKE DETECTORS AND FLASHLIGHTS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. SERVICE THEM REGULARLY. THEY MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE ONE DAY. 12 Using the SkySaver

2.3 Putting on and Using the SkySaver IN EVENT OF A FIRE, FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES: Assess the evacuation path situation. Can you use the emergency stairways or external fire escapes? If yes, then you should evacuate this way. Is there time for you to wait for fire rescue services to arrive without endangering your life? If yes, then wait for them to arrive and follow their instructions. IF DANGER IS IMMINENT THEN LOCATE YOUR SKYSAVER AND REMOVE IT FROM ITS STORAGE CONTAINER. Lay the system flat on the ground. Pull on the red strap at the bottom of the backpack until the harness is fully exposed. THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD SEE NOW. The harness is fully extracted, rear adjustment buckles exposed, and the Y shaped sit harness is visible. Using the SkySaver 13

Roll the SkySaver over and stay low. Toxic fumes may be present. The safe working area is low to the ground. Put on the SkySaver as if it were a backpack. Stay low to the ground, toxic fumes may be present. 14 Using the SkySaver

Reach down, pass the strap under your leg and connect the male T buckle to the corresponding female connectors. This creates a single point sit harness. CAUTION ENSURE THAT BOTH BUCKLES ARE FIRMLY CONNECTED. THIS CREATES A SINGLE POINT SIT HARNESS. Using the SkySaver 15

CAUTION THE STRAP SHOULD BE LOOSE ENOUGH SO THAT YOUR HAND SLIPS BETWEEN IT AND YOUR CHEST. Adjust the leg strap so that it is snug between your legs. Pull in an upward angle to adjust. 16 Using the SkySaver

Connect the chest strap. Pull down on the FRONT shoulder tabs and straps to adjust to a snug fit. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Using the SkySaver 17

On your right shoulder is the top red tab, pull this down to release the carabiner-style hook. Locate a window with a pre-installed anchor point, and look down to ensure you can safely lower yourself to ground level. If that is not possible, move to another side of the building and recheck. Look down to the left and right to ensure the way is clear. 18 Using the SkySaver

Connect the carabiner-style hook to an anchor point. See anchor installation manual for further instructions. Stay low and place one hand outside the window. This will help maintain balance. Using the SkySaver 19

DO NOT JUMP OR PUSH OUT OF THE WINDOW. PLACE ONE FOOT AND LEG OUTSIDE AND MOVE SMOOTHLY. SWING YOUR OTHER FOOT OUTSIDE until only your chest is on the ledge or edge of the window. With your chest on the edge transfer your weight smoothly onto your SkySaver. Your aim should be to lower your weight smoothly onto the SkySaver. Once your chest is on the edge, move and hang feet first from your hands. 20 Using the SkySaver

DANGER DO NOT JUMP OR PUSH OUT OF THE WINDOW. THE SKYSAVER IS WELL-DESIGNED BUT EXCESSIVE MOTION AND FORCE FROM A SUDDEN SHIFT IN WEIGHT COULD CAUSE YOUR ANCHOR SYSTEM TO FAIL. The SkySaver system will lower you to the ground at a speed that is approximately a walking pace (6.5 feet/second or 2 meters/second). As you descend, do not bounce off the wall. Simply allow the device to lower you. Bouncing will put undue stress on your anchor. Gently push off the wall to ease yourself over obstacles such as windows or protruding ledges. YOU CAN EXPECT A CERTAIN LEVEL OF DISCOMFORT AS THE LIFESAVING DEVICE LOWERS YOU TO THE GROUND. Using the SkySaver 21

As you descend, use your hands and feet to gently push yourself from the wall, over obstacles, and around hazards. Shout as you near the ground and attract the attention of anybody near your landing area. When you land keep your feet shoulder width apart. Land with your feet flat and not on your toes. Unbuckle the straps and step away from the harness. 22 Using the SkySaver

To undo the harness: 1. Start with the CHEST STRAP. 2. Disconnect the T BUCKLE. 3. Take off as if it is a backpack. 4. Leave the harness hanging as the SkySaver is a one-time use device and it has done its job by saving your life. WARNING DO NOT DROP THE CABLE FROM THE WINDOW. 5. After all danger has passed, the system can be recovered by disconnecting the carabiner-style hook from the anchor point. Using the SkySaver 23

DANGER THE SKYSAVER IS A ONE TIME USE DEVICE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REWIND THE CABLE. 2.4 Closing the Unit After Familiarization To close the unit: 1. Lay the unit on the floor. 2. Tuck the side flaps under. 3. Make an S fold with the first panel tucked into its pocket at the bottom of the backpack. There is a hook & loop fastener strip to help keep the panel in place. 24 Using the SkySaver

4. S fold the final piece of the leg straps into the pocket with the first piece of strap. NOTICE THE BOTTOM RED STRAP AND T BUCKLE MUST BE OUTSIDE THE BACKPACK. 5. Put the backpack in its plastic bag with the humidity packet. 6. Put the SkySaver in its box. Close the box and return it to its storage area. Using the SkySaver 25
