ALLARD Born: April 27, 1946 Birthplace: Teaneck, NJ Residence: Philadelphia, PA Born in New Jersey, Allard trained horses on the New England circuit before splitting his time between Monmouth and Suffolk in 1993, and later just Monmouth. In 1985, Allard trained Mom s Command to an Eclipse Award as the nation s top 3-year-old filly. He trained Miss Indy Anna, a Grade 1 placed runner. In 2005 he won the Jersey Derby with TouchedbyMadness and the following year won three stakes one with Friel s For Real and a pair with Imtoogoodtobetrue. A graduate of Lycoming College, Bottazzi joined his father, of the same name, when the latter began training horses. Bottazzi Jr. captured his first career race in the mid-1990s at Garden State Park. In addition to his training duties, he is involved in Bottazzi s Red Lion Inn, a family-owned restaurant in Brick, New Jersey. Breen captured his first career race in 1993 at the Meadowlands. He went on to be an assistant to Raines Award winner Ben Perkins Sr., before going back out on his own in 2000 when Perkins retired. New Jersey born and raised, Breen has enjoyed tremendous success over the past several years including wins in the 2005 Sorority (Keeneland Kat), the 2009 Sorority (Truth and Justice) and a victory in the 2006 Long Branch with Praying for Cash, who went on to finish second in that year s Haskell. In 2009, Breen saddled his first two Kentucky Derby starters when West Side Bernie and Atomic Rain started in the Classic. Atomic Rain went on to win Monmouth s Long Branch Stakes before being sold privately. BROOME Born: October 26, 1951 Birthplace: Berlin, NJ Residence: Erial, NJ Broome has been a Monmouth Park mainstay since 1994, when he shifted his operation from Philly Park to the Garden State. Since then he has captured four training titles at the Meadowlands, three owner s titles at Monmouth and five owner s championships at the Big M. He sent out Mi Narrow to capture stakes races in three consecutive years, 1998-2000. Broome owns many of the

runners in his barn and has enjoyed great success in the claiming business. In 1996 he claimed Gail s Brush for $40,000 at Gulfstream Park and went on to win four straight stakes with her before she was retired in August of that year. As a child, Broome worked at his grandfather s (Carl Auwarter) farm, mucking stalls and breaking yearlings. He operated a crane for 10 years to save enough money to enter the racing business. In 2005 Broome won three stakes including the Lamplighter with Network on Haskell Day. Broome trained three and bred four winners on New Jersey Bred Festival Day in 2009 including the Broome owned and trained, Lucky James, in the New Jersey Breeders Handicap. Born: September 25, 1949 Birthplace: Newark, NJ Residence: Highlands, NJ With more than 20 years of training on the New Jersey circuit to his credit, Carlesimo enjoyed stakes success most recently with Silent Serenade, winner of the Open Mind Handicap on opening day of the 2002 Monmouth season and the Spruce Fir Handicap on closing day of the 2000 meet. In 1990, Carlesimo captured the biggest race of his career when Quick Mischief won the Grade 1 Ruffian at Belmont and later went on to win Monmouth s Nauvoo Stakes in 1992. Carlesimo s older cousin is P.J. Carlesimo, former Seton Hall head basketball coach. Carroll got his first big horse in 1990 with Yankee Affair, winner of three Grade 1 races that year, including the United Nations Handicap, the trainer s first Grade 1 victory. Carroll campaigned his first champion when Smoke Glacken won the Eclipse Award as the nation s top sprinter in 1997. The year prior, Smoke Glacken won the Sapling Stakes and in his championship year he went six for eight, including wins in the DeFrancis Dash and Jersey Shore Breeders Cup Stakes, the latter s first year being contested at Monmouth Park. After three years as a rider, Carvajal Jr. switched over to training and worked five years as an assistant to Angel Penna Jr. In the mid-1990 s he went to work as an assistant to Monmouth Park veteran Bob Durso, a job he held until Durso s retirement. In 2005 Carvajal went out on his own and won his first race with Fagedaboudit Sal the following year. Last year that charge returned to win the Bob Harding, Carvajal s first stakes win. In 2007 she tied for ninth in the overall Meadowlands standings, winning at a 28% rate. In 2009, the Cibelli-trained Chirac captured the Skip Away and Grade 3 Philip H. Iselin Stakes, the trainer s first graded stakes victory. He has successfully maintained stables in both New York and New Jersey and is perennially among the leading trainers in New York. He won the Grade 1 Ashland Stakes at Keeneland in 1991 with Do It With Style. Contessa has twice won the New Jersey Futurity at the Big M, in addition to numerous other stakes races in the Garden State. FRANK COSTA Born: April 11, 1934 Birthplace: Spilanga, Italy Residence: Kenilworth, NJ Costa is an ex-jockey, who won with his first mount in 1953 at Gulfstream Park. He also won with his first starter as a trainer at Monmouth Park in 1972. Costa s stable went from just three New Jersey wins in 2001 to 24 in 2002 and increased his earnings five-fold over his 2001 numbers. A fixture on the New Jersey racing circuit, Costa saddled Burst of Applause to victory in the Manila Stakes in 1993. Costa won 11 races at the inaugural Meadowlands meet. In 2005 he conditioned New Jersey star Joey P. to victory in the Jersey Shore Breeders Cup Handicap as well as a start in the Haskell Invitational. In 2007 he captured the John McSorley Stakes with John s Pic. In 1989 Dibona became an owner himself, winning his first race out at Suffolk. In 2000 he took out his trainer s license and won his first race that year with Hurricane Havoc at Gulfstream. He has been stabling at Monmouth Park since 2006 and has enjoyed great success, most notably with Actin Good, winner of the 2007 Grade 3 Pegasus, and Cuba, an $18,000 claim that has earned over $400,000 since the acquisition and victor of the 2008 Charles Hesse Handicap. Actin Good added another stakes win to his resume by taking last year s Majestic Light on Haskell Day. Ozone Park, NY Dutrow worked as an assistant to his father, the late Richard Dutrow Sr., until his father left New York for Maryland in the early 1990s. Dutrow has enjoyed stakes success with such horses as Sis City, Love of Money, Carson Hollow, Wild Desert, Silver Train and Horse of the Year Saint Liam. In 2006 he captured the Pegasus Stakes at the Meadowlands with Diamond Stripes and came back the following year to win the Meadowlands Cup with that charge. Dutrow again captured the Meadowlands Cup in 2008, this time with Arson Squad. In 2007 he won a pair of stakes at the Monmouth meet and returned in the fall to take the Breeders Cup Mile with Kip Deville. In 2008, Dutrow captured the Kentucky Derby and Preakness with Big Brown before bringing that champion to Monmouth Park for wins in the Haskell Invitational and the inaugural running of the Monmouth Stakes. Along with her husband Mike, the Farro s operate a successful operation in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York. Farro took out her trainer s license in the early 1990s. In 2004 Farro became the first female in track history to win the trainer s title at the Meadowlands. Gambolati has been stabling at Monmouth on and off for the past decade. In 2006 he captured a pair of stakes races with My Lucky Free and the following year took the Mongo Queen with Princess Janie. In 2008, Gambolati captured the Grade 3 Red Bank with Buffalo Man and the Gilded Time with Run Sully Run. In addition to capturing a pair of stakes at the 2006 meet, Goldberg sent out the entry of Victory Lake and Awfully Smart in the Haskell. He saddled Social Queen to a stakes win at Monmouth in 2007 and returned with that charge to capture the Politely and Grade 3 Eatontown a year later. Goldberg trains primarily for Richard Santulli. MARY HARTMANN Born: February 9, 1953 Birthplace: Newark, NJ Residence: N. Miami Beach, FL Hartmann was a former assistant to J.J. Crupi, a top trainer on the New Jersey circuit for several decades. She began training on her own after Crupi retired in 1997. Hartmann had a banner year in 2002, finishing sixth in the overall Monmouth Park trainer standings with 16 winners. A year later, Presious Passion gave Hartmann her first Grade 1 victory when he won the United Nations Stakes. In 2009, that charge energized the home fans by winning the Monmouth Stakes and his secondconsecutive United Nations Stakes establishing a new course record. Later in the year, Presious Passion would finish second in the Breeders Cup Turf at Santa Anita. Woodington trained Thorny Crown, winner of two Monmouth stakes in 1998 and two Meadowlands stakes in 1996. She finished in the money with 51% of her runners at the 2003 Monmouth meet and captured three stakes: Santo Lalomia, Lincroft and Colts Neck. In 2004 her charges finished one-two in the Jersey Breeders Turf Highweight, winning it with American Freedom. That runner came back to win the Grade 3 Red Bank Handicap in 2005.
